E3: Firaxis Announced 2nd Civ3 Expansion!

Gingerbread Man- This is what we are all hanging out for! Campaigns means triggered events, and triggered events means something like the civ2 editor!

I was actually thinking the other day, "now wouldn't civ3 be great if it had campaigns like AoE?". Firaxis can read my mind!

So far they have mentioned campaigns from Asia/Japan, South America, Middle east, and Europe. Where else, I wonder?
I don't know.... Im not so sure about triggers, look at Medieval Total War for example, they had 'campaigns' and they didn't have scripting in the game. I think that it will have a lot of Editor bonuses, maybe even make-your-own-victory conditions, but I am not so sure about trigger, I just can't imagine Civ3 with it.
Gingerbread Man- And it looks like it wont be a repeat of PTW! I think Firaxis have learnt from their mistakes.
Bah, as I said PtW added a lot. Especially if you modded Civ3, it was sort of like a MP-Mod expansion, this next one does seem to focus on SP, (with campaigns) which is a good thing :). I wonder if they will include a ‘simultaneous moves’ mode support in Single Player?!?! Would add lots for scenarios.

Here’s hoping anyway .

Great news! :goodjob:
I hope the expansion is this time well finished and don't have so many bugs as did PTW when it was released.

This is great news. The campaigns sounds really interesting. I wonder if one can play a co-op campaign. Now that would be fun :)

Oh no! My poor wallet. :(
I know I'll have to buy it. I know I can't face it if I don't have it. But they'd better come up with something interesting and 8 Civs alone won't do!

Staff, what about a chat? ;)

:band:

The campaigns don't catch my fancy too much, but, I've got to say, I am pretty pleased at the news. I hope the will borrow some of the diplomacy from Europa Universalis. A diplomacy editor would be nice too.

According to my poll on the topic, the new civs should be:

The Inca..............143 voters................12.99%
The Jews (Israel)...... 88.................7.99%
The Maya...................88..................7.99%
The Portuguese..........83 votes.........7.54%
The Netherlands.........77 votes.........6.99%
The Polynesians......... 65..................5.90%
The Scots....................59...................5.36%
Nubia/ other Black African Civ......59 votes........5.36%

Pretty whopping lead for the Inca.

Last time round, I think 5 of the 8 civs were in my poll (the last poll). So, draw your own conclusions. ;)

I think that they should also think about the Aborigines as a possibilty, so that we can fill Australia in the world map.

Last time round, they surprised everyone by going for the Koreans, instead of the Inca for commercial reasons.
Does anyone know what the biggest civ national market, not already represented by a civ, are?

Nice news indeed. One wonders if this is going to be an expansion on vanilla Civ3, or whether it is also going to incorporate PtW? I don't recall how that was done with the Civ2 expansion packs, but it sure would be nice if those 8 new Civs were cumulative to make a pool of 32, and we could play the scenarios with MP. It would be most interesting if people with PtW could enjoy the combined power, and people without it could still enjoy the SP benefits of the new expansion set, but I guess that would be too complex for Firaxis to create.

Any thoughts?

Exactly what I was thinking when I read the news....

This is great news. When I logged on today, I wa expecting to hear something about Pirates 2 from Firaxis and they surprise me with a new expansion for may favorite game. I am stoked.

Eight new civs will be great (I haven't even played all of the one I have now) but I am all fired up over the prospect of new diplomatic options, luxuries, resources, and wonders.

Now I can't wait until fall.

BRING IT ON!!!

New Diplomacy + New Victory Conditions = I will buy. The rest is just icing to me ;) I'll have to wait and hear what the new diplomacy options are before I get too excited though ;)

I'm personally hoping for:
More types of alliances/protection pacts
Stop your war with my friends ______
Unit trading
An improved UN

A few more options to enhance PBEM would be nice.

f.e.
- Being able to change user names / passwords
- Have some indication of what happened in between your turns,
like who has killed which of your units.

Before releasing a new expansion, they should at least give us, poor europeans (or poor non-americans) the PTW1.21 patches.

There is no way I am going to buy a new expansion If I can't have the previous one working correctly.

And by the way, I don't want to be in the position of the European Imports/Sellers who will have to try to convince european customers that they should buy LOCAL versions and not the IMPORTED ones now after all the mess with patches we had :)

Just my 0.02€

Jabah

Wouhouh ! Great great news, it deserves a song : :band:

I WILL have to buy it when it's released here in France, it can't be another way.
I hope they'll ship an enhanced editor, because I'm trying to start my mod, and it's quite hard to understand everything...
New civs : Netherlands and Portugal will surely be there, so we could expect an improved Age of Sail, as many people said it sucks now. We will have Incans for sure, probably another African culture. We could expect a tribe for Australia, and why not an Eastern European civ ? We could also have a civ from Siam (Thailand and stuff).
New wonders, new resources, new units, and new governments, really cool ! I hope this won't lead to 1 addition per theme, though...
New victory conditions : at least, I hope they'll change the UN, as I think it's nonsense.

That's too much news for the moment ! I hope it will be released in French not too late, and that ALL language compatibility bugs will be fixed !!! Firaxis : go to work, and give me a game that displays everything in French even when playing English games, and that does not crash when trying to play an English game that add units and stuff (mmmh... like GOTM ?).

Anyway, let's go to party ! [party]

With all due respect, the Aborigines were not a civilization. They never left the stone age. :)

Probably the Dutch.

Here's the eight I would like to see:

Polish - They certainly had their moments, and you need a buffer between the Germans and Russians.

Hungarians - A civ to fill SE-Central Europe would be great.

Incas - They have a nice spot all ready for them in South America.

Siamese - We sorely need a good SE Asia civ, and the Siamese would fit the bill.

Sioux - A good civ to fill the Great Plains.

Assyrians - I know, there are already a lot of Middle-Eastern Civs, but dang it, the Assyrians kicked some butt!

Israelis - May not be the largest civ, but still a very important one.

Dutch - For all our Dutch players, and they were an important power.

Canada! (And da,mit, there better be in the expansion pack! :p )

hopefully they add the cheat menu back onto the game. but I'm sure Spiderzord will be up to the challenge of creating a new Powerbar for this expansion.

plus, the DyP mod adds so much already that I may not even need to buy the new expansion. but who am I kidding, I'm a civ addict and I'll probably have to go buy it.
