Uhh, how come nobody mentioned the earthquake in Indonesia? Are we tired of the 'Asian Natural Disaster Show'?

I thought I had missed the thread or something. I knew about it 24 hours ago.

Honestly I don't care Bozo. If you decide to live in an earthquake prone region and your village is knocked over thats not my fault or my problem. I mean come on people if you live on an island with an active volcanoe it might be smart to either not live there or build you houses a little more sturdy. I feel the same way about cali. or the east coast and hurricanes so its not a bias against any one part of the world. I was going to open a thread about geological activity and its posible futur impact but I know that it will turn into an america bashing rant by some 15 year old british snot (not to imply any particular member)of how little we help in % of gnp compaired to europe, but even though we give more in total ....bla....bla.....bla...bla

@Skadistic: Things would be rather cramped if people only lived in places where there was no chance of earthquake, flood, volcano, hurricane, etc. How do you propose moving a few billion people to geologically sound areas? Where exactly are said areas? Have you considered that many people cannot simply choose to move half way round the world? By your logic everyone on the Ring of Fire should move, and somehow I think places like Japan and Bangladesh might object to suddenly ceasing to exist due to being condemned as unsafe due to natural disasters. You have a plan for moving the population of California do you? Or the Gulf Coast? Or tornado alley? Or Florida?

Just because Maryland doesn't happen to get a type of natural disaster doesn't mean you can point at anyone who lives in areas that do and say it's their own stupid fault.

I'm not saying they can't or shouldn't live where they do I'm just saying don't expect me to give a rats arse about them when nature rears its unstoppable head.

And if any kind of natural disaster ever hits Maryland, no one should give a rat's arse about you? Fair enough. Everyone please remember that if Skadistic is ever in trouble we should ignore him as we shouldn't be expected to care.

To the OP, I guess that answers your thread-starting question?

Congratulations. Fortunately, although these people have been striken by nature, there might be something to do in order to help them. But I can't see anything than could possibly help you stopping being inhuman.

Don't expect us to weep for you when karma comes around.

Natural disaster threads are dumb. I do not say this from a lack of pity or heart... they just are. No one made a thread because no one had anything to say. (Note: "That sucks" does not count as saying something. And that's all that can be said.)

everyone knows that from a natural disaster, people are going to suffer, and buildings are going to be damaged. there is nothing to enjoy about that.

I believe there was already a thread on this.

And I know the point you are trying to make BE. And I wanna add that 232000 died in the tsunami and it will get similar amount of media attention for the 3000 death count disaster.

I'll agree with that assessment. It's mostly a given that we're all sad over it...but...I'm not sure what else there is to say.

Now if there were threads talking about relief effort politics or the like, that would be something.

I agree with CG but Im a little surprised not even people from that part of the world thought it was worth a thread.

<cynic>well there was no europen/american tourists there, so why should we care?</cynic>

Reminds me of the tsunami disaster. Hundreds of thousands of Asians swept away into the ocean. What dominated the coverage in the local papers here for awhile? A beautiful blonde Western model who got a boo-boo in the tsunami, and lost her boyfriend. We humans are a riot aint we.

I hope the government has a plan ready to make us look intelligent and rational real quick, in case we ever meet alien lifeforms. I'm thinking of a huge carpet to sweep the whole media under...
