"Easy way to stop smoking". Why did it take so long?

OK, if person isn't impressed by feedbacks over internet (though it is strange, because I'm sure some "nicorette" providers are not less "powerfull" than Allen Carr, and they don't get such feedbacks),
Big companies tend not to do review spamming, this is characteristic of smaller companies.

all that's left, is give it a try. From my personal experience, it is worth trying. BTW 7 mln copies selled is ALOT, taking into account many people read this book for free on the internet sites. :)
Lots of sales doesn't mean lots of sucess. And personel accounts don't always work with me. I've had a trained health sciences teacher tell me that putting bags of salt in front of computer moniters wards off cancer. The only valid test for medical efficacy of different treatment options is controlled studies. You want to say this is the next best thing, show me that. Otherwise I'm gonna dismiss it as one of the many semihelpful self-help books.

Heh. I didn't open this thread to persuade smokers the book works and is successfull bestseller. 7 million copies sold - fact. Simple statistic ( I was a smoker for 15 years and there are lots of smokers around me) show, that success rate of this book is amazing. That brought me to wonder, why do I hear about this book 14 years after it was ritten?

Disclaimer: smokers who don't trust this book could help them to quit smoking with 95% rate of success don't have to buy or read it.

Do you still have nicotiene cravings?

N~O :D And I never had some, after reading the book. It is amazing, i´ve smoked for 7 years, tried many times to quit without success, but then it works from one day to another. Nicotine addiction is no hard addiction - there are no physical withdraw symptoms. The book helps you, to clear your mind and after reading it carefully you can quit without any problems. Maybe its mind-manipulating (I don´t know how to describe it differently), but I don´t care: It worked for me.

There are physical but psychosomatic withdrawal symtpoms from nicotine although a friend who did some research on nicotine said these words, there is no physical addiction to nicotine(ie nothing like a true addiction in drugs like cocaine and heroin) But I say this with some caveats(he's an academic he likes using obscure words) :) it appears that after prolonged use the structure of the brain changes so that it becomes if not physically dependent then dependant on a different chemical level. Something like that, I assumed he knew what he was talking about though as he'd just finished his study and had it published for peer review. I am paraphrasing as I forget exactly what he said, It sounded like he was quoting directly from his paper.

I'm damn sure the habit and manerisms of smoking are psychologically addictive and can lead to permanent behavioural cueing that makes it difficult to quit, particularly in certain circumstances, such as in bars and habitats where you would normally light up, I knew that much before I talked to my bud about it.

I'm a non-smoker, which makes me a minority, and I love that!

Actually it makes you part of a majority, IIRC, non-smokers are much more numerable than smokers :)

My gf's mother read one of these books about 5 years ago and stopped smoking then, after smoking for about 20yrs. I was always doubtful of this book, but it seems to work. :)

I am just really curious what the book says that makes it so compelling. I quit cold-turkey over a year ago, I think. that was after 10 years off and on. yes I still have cravings.

And I find those numbers on the sight highly suspect, since EVERYONE I know who quit, quit cold turkey. I don't know wnayone who used gum, or hypnotherapy, or some book, and I know alot of people who have quit smoking.

Sounds interesting. I just wanted to point out, that you don´t have pain when quit smoking, like you have from heroine. I never thought about the possibility of a change of behavior because of chemical changes... However, I feel good ;)

I stoped smoking (2 packs a day) 24 May 2004 (2 years ago) with this book and never had a cig in the mouth since then. I spent 2 splendid years.
It costs the price of a pack, it has no side effect, I consider it criminal to criticize this book : I don't care if the stats are fake, if the author is a millionair, if he makes money from poor smokers.
The only thing is that it can make you stop for 5 €, who cares about the rest ?

I started smoking when I was 5 years old. After gagging and crying during my sprint to the kitchen for a glass of water, that's also when I quit. I've had no desire to try it since.

So, do a pre-schooler a favor and offer him a cigarette. You'll be glad you did. ;)

I have quit smoking last autuum after reading one of Allen Carr´s books. It a really good method and I think everyone can quit smoking with it. But sadly none of the smokers I know, wanted to try it. :(

I think that might be the answer right there: a lot of smokers just like it way to much ;)

There might be a few, but I doubt most of the smokers really enjoy it. Not talking about pot

But you still have cravings. Read the book. You'll lose them forever. Honestly.

Neither am I ;) . What I'm talking about are the poeple I know that smoke, complain constantly that they'd like to quit, but never seem to take even the first steps in trying. From this I conclude that they know smoking is bad for them, but they enjoy it too much to actually give it up.

I smoked for nearly 20 years. After reading this book about 8 years ago I tried to quit.....but failed. I have re-read this book a few times and tried to quit....but again failed. Eventually the book was given to a friend who also failed to quit.

I have now stopped smoking for 7 months and I firmly believe it is all to do with how much you want to stop. If you really want to stop, then you will stop. No book can do this for you.

What exactly is in the book that's so profound(or not?)

If I could tell you, I'd be an author of the book :)
My personal opinion is:

1. This book makes you to agree you are addict (real drug addict)

2. It proves all "pros" for smoking are false.

3. It makes you to accept that all your arguments "smoking is not the worst of the evils" are funny (my personal argument was that smoking is much less harmfull than car exhausts :))

4. There is some element of brainwashing (which is good, because smoking has some element of brainwashing, remember all those movies?)

Overall: It helped me to quit in most wonderful way, I feel free and great, I don't deny that sometimes, SOMETIMES, I brifly feel nostalgia for cigarette but I just can't imagine myself putting it into my mouth and sparking, and lastly stress, booze and food don't provoke carving for cigarette.

All of this I can't say about my numerous attempts to quit in any different way. Once I stopped smoking for a year, but then I was sure I'll start smoking again someday. Now I'm sure I won't. :)

Edit:
I urge everyone who wants to stop smoking to give this book a try. It is no more expensive than pack of cigarettes and really helps.
