Ekmek's Civ4 Leaderhead Gallery

I have to say he reminds me of this guy, Boris Burda. He is a Russian/Ukrainian TV personality.

OK, I tested the Kossuth patch and it works better. There are no weird animations, but it still looks unfinished. Still, as you said, it is playable. Thank you.

what parts look unfinished? the animations or graphics? i know cool3a2 did additional graphic work.

When he is leaning to the front you can see that this is really only a flying torso. Maybe if you lower him a little it won't show. I hope you understood my explanation... I you want I'll post a screencap.
Everything else looks better.

So is Meiji about ready for prime-time Ekmek? Looking pretty close to release (I'd use him as-is now). As I mentioned in my last post... other then perhaps bags under his eyes (and even that was very minor) I was giving a big thumbs-up to Meiji! :goodjob:

Bags under eyes, eh, not really an issue to me.

I'm sure he was "done up" for photographs and in the paintings, well you can't really put too much credence into paintings of leaders, no less Emperors.

I'm sure he had his share of rough nights.

Geishas and what not... ;)

My point is the picture/painting Ekmek based his LH on was based on a YOUNG Emperor Meiji... you usually don't have bags under your eyes at that age... that's all I was saying, and as I repeatedly said, it was a minor observation, not a game-breaker (that earlier "mom cut my hair with a bowl" look was a game-breaker, but he fixed that very nicely).

I could release meiji as is but I'm tempted to do some readjustments like lowering his brow to be more in line with he picture and fixing his lips and chin. but i'm not sure how soon i can finish this up . in the meantime here are the meiji nif and tgas (will deempahsized eye bags). you'll need to get the rest of the mao files from the chinese leaderheads that were posted

Xerxes - i had some model work with sitting bull but it just wasnt coming along as i wanted, so I'm thinking of doing it on another body.

I used your Meiji LH and as far as improvements I would suggest the following...

I'd make his body slimmer, or at least drop the shoulders a bit, his body seems way too big for the size of his head/neck.

On that note, you should probably make his neck longer, and his head/chin/jaw longer as well.

I'd raise the ends of his eyebrows a little too, based on Wolfshanze's picture.

Its good work though, and easily useable, those are just some suggestions.

Here's the Bio I came-up with for Meiji (when it "officially" goes to XML)... I wasn't happy with any one Bio I could find, so I kind-of put-together my own here:

Readable Format:
Spoiler :
Born just eight months before Commodore Matthew Perry and the United States squadron of "Black Ships" came to demand the opening of Japan to foreign trade, Prince Mutsuhito, the 122nd emperor in the traditional count, whose accession to the throne marked the beginning of a national revolution known as the Meiji Restoration.

Once he had taken on the title of Emperor on 3 February 1867, Mutsuhito took the name Meiji (meaning "enlightened government"), and a group of radical nationalists united under his power to take on the Tokugawa shogunate and bring rise to a new era. Only shortly after his ascent to the throne Meiji married Lady Haruko who then became known as Empress Shoken, she was the first woman from the Imperial consort to be given the title kogo or emperor's wife. Shoken, however, bore him no children. Meiji did have children though, fifteen to be exact and to five different ladies in waiting.

Though many think of the Meiji Restoration as "bloodless", there was in-fact a great civil war fought within Japan shortly after his ascension to the throne. Imperial forces gathered under Meiji's rule and defeated the Tokugawa in the Boshin War of 1868-1869. It was at this time that Meiji moved the capital from Kyoto to Edo, which was then renamed Tokyo and the Meiji period began in-ernest. Though Meiji remained Emperor, the government had now become an oligarchy composed of the greatest military, political and economical men of Japan.

With the Meiji Restoration in-progress, the Japanese had sent delegations and students around the world in order to learn and assimilate western arts and sciences; this was done not only to prevent Japan from falling under foreign domination but to enable Japan to compete equally with the Western powers. Sweeping changes were occuring... although many powerful men from the Satsuma domain in northern Japan had risen to influential positions in the new Meiji government, there was growing dissatisfaction with the direction the country was taking. The modernization (westernization) of the country meant the abolition of the privileged social status of the samurai class, and had undermined their financial position. The very rapid and massive changes to Japanese culture, dress and society appeared to many samurai to be a betrayal of the joi ("Expel the Barbarian") portion of the Sonno joi justification used to overthrow the former Tokugawa shogunate in the Boshin War. This led to the Satsuma Rebellion, which was a revolt of samurai against the Meiji government from January 29, 1877 to September 24,1877, 11 years into the Meiji Era. It was the last, and the most serious, of a series of armed uprisings against the new government. In a tough series of battles, the samurai were finally defeated. Financially, crushing the Satsuma Rebellion cost the government greatly, forcing Japan off of the gold standard and causing the government to print paper currency. The rebellion was also effectively the end of the samurai class, as the new Imperial Japanese Army built of conscripts without regard to social class had proven itself in battle. Saigo Takamori was labeled as a tragic hero by the people and on February 22, 1889, Emperor Meiji pardoned Saigo posthumously.

After securing internal peace, Japan began to reach outward towards imperial ambitions as a great power equal to western nations. The First Sino-Japanese War (1894-1895) was a war fought between Qing Dynasty China and Meiji Japan over the control of Korea which Japan won. The war demonstrated the superiority of Japanese tactics and training as a result of the adoption of a western style military, though it raised tensions between Japan and Russia, which in-turn led to the Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905) which grew out of the rival imperialist ambitions of the Russian Empire and Japanese Empire over Manchuria and Korea. In the end, Japan sunk two of Russia's three fleets and defeated Russia in Manchuria, securing victory for Japan.

Meiji himself was mainly a figure of leadership that helped the imperialist's defeat the Tokugawa shogunate and restore peace to the people. His rule wasn't long, but he played enough part to help establish the Meiji era. It was the restoration that established Japan as a top power in the Pacific and helped it to maintain an important international presence. Little is known about Meiji himself including whether or not he wanted war or peace, or how much power he actually had during the revolution. It is said that the Emperor was more a symbol of unity to the people while it was his ministers that did the actual ruling. Though he may not of done much physically or verbally his very presence did a lot. Emperor Meiji died in 1912 and was buried in the Graveyard (Fushimi Momoyama Ryo) in Kyoto. After his death the Meiji era ending leaving the people of Japan nervous and unsure of what the future might bring.

Meiji symbolized the unity of the people under one government rising up to strike down the Tokugawa shogunate in order to establish a safer and more peaceful future. During his reign, Japan became an industrial power able to compete with the nations of the West. The Meiji shrine in the centre of Tokyo was built in his honour.

great bio wolfie.
Almost every Bio I read on Meiji didn't mention jack-didly about anything that happened while Meiji was Emperor other then the modernization stuff... or that "oh, some people in Japan didn't like it" kinda stuff.

Totally neglected that Meiji was emperor during the Boshin Civil War, the Satsuma Rebellion (Last Samurai), or that Japan launched two Imperialistic foreign wars (Sino-Japanese War & Russo-Japanese War) during his reign.

Thought that stuff was worth mentioning! ;)

Oh, and here's his LH code... this AI-routine will make him a die-hard "Tech-Whore":

Did you take the code from Mansa Musa or Zara Yaqob. 'Cause if you did you should adjust the XML to make him less zealotic... I doubt Meiji cared much about religion.

*happy that Meiji is coming soon*

Looking good Ekmek-another masterpiece on it's way...

Nice LH Info Wolfshanze- Question: shouldn't the flavor values be switched, to make him a tech whore? (the '2' and the '5')

Nice LH Info Wolfshanze- Question: shouldn't the flavor values be switched, to make him a tech whore? (the '2' and the '5')
Nope... The AI code is actually based off two of the biggest tech-whore's in the game... Mansu and Zara... believe it or not, Religion, Gold & Growth are the only "Flavors" that either of them have... neither Mansu or Zara even have "Science" as a flavor, yet they are both known as major tech-whores. Having the higher Growth flavor (like Zara) will actually help Meiji keep-up in other areas (production/military). The AI code itself is far more inducive to being a tech-whore then the flavor of the leader is.

Trust me... the AI code is "stolen" from the two biggest in-game tech-whores... Meiji will be one too if you use the code I provided.

P.S.
Meiji and Reagan will both make their debuts in the next version of the Wolfshanze Mod (whenever I get around to releasing another version... I have both leaders on my system version of the mod, but it's not ready for prime-time yet).

Here's a (beta) Meiji button for those using the Beta that was semi-released:

Yes I believe you that he will be teching like Mansa & Zara, and I do think it's good enough to play with on how you have it now.:)

The flavors was what my question was about- the value of the flavor gets added into the calculation to ultimately decide what is going to happen.

In this case, Meiji values Growth items highly, and Science items moderately.

Take Shaka's for example:
Spoiler :
<Flavors>
<Flavor>
<FlavorType>FLAVOR_MILITARY</FlavorType>
<iFlavor>10</iFlavor>
</Flavor>
</Flavors>
Not suprisingly, the AI Shaka favors military. I can understand that you want to make Meiji more well-rounded, but what I'm saying will make him even more of a tech whore:deal:

PS- Nice Button!

Ah... I forgot to tweak the code for religion... the above code is corrected now so Meiji is not a crazy religious zealot!

I think you missed what I said... bottom line...

"Do you consider Mansa and Zara to be tech-whores themselves?"

If you do, then Meiji will be MORE of a tech-whore then either Mansa or Zara...

Neither Mansa nor Zara even have "Science" as a flavor... NEITHER OF THEM! Yet they are both widely respected as rampant tech-whores.

I have Meiji valuing Science more then either Mansa or Zara do... there is also always a delicate balance to take into consideration... a guy with all tech and no production or military to speak-of is a paper tiger. Gandhi is a perfect example of a civ leader who often has a lot of tech, but is never really dangerous at all because he rarely has anything to show for it. The "Growth" flavor is a pretty good one for the AI to have, it helps in a lot of ways to make the AI competitive.
