Don't forget that the Japanese royal family claimed direct descent from Amaterasu (who was in Civ II); Hirohito only stopped claiming direct descent since the defeat of his country in WW2.

The Japanese also don't have problems with players playing as Shinto deities or attacking them (note the popular Japanese mobile game Puzzle & Dragons for example). Yet, Japanese emperors are considered too sacred to be depicted in fiction in most cases. For example, the Simpsons episode 30 Minutes Over Tokyo is banned in Japan for depicting Homer throwing Akihito into a basket of used sumo thongs.

Hiawatha is not only heavily romanticized in early American leader, but the Toronto Islands were formerly named after him.

There's Dekanawideh (known as the Great Peacekeeper; he too is practically fictionalized who only exists in Iroquois folklore (unless there's convinicing archaeological evidence)).

Joseph Brant (Thayendanegea) would make a great Iroquois leader (there's substantial evidence of his existence; he met both George Washington and King George III in person). He is the namesake of Brantford, Ontario and the surrounding County of Brant, as well as the Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington, Ontario, as well as a major thoroughfare in Burlington named Brant Street. Unfortunately, many Americans called him "Monster Brant," preventing his inclusion. He deserves to lead the Iroquois in Civ VI if the Iroquois were to be added.
