TO:
Commander Vladimir Chernyshevski, OUTCOM SDF, CSS Interdictor
FROM:
Senator Isabel Justo Marcelino, CID Senate, Earth
TIME:
1856UT, November 28, 0001AE
SUBJECT:
Opening Discussion on Military Organization

Greetings, Commander;

The Executive Branch back here on Earth has begun pressing the Duma and Senate to begin exploring the foundations of a new military system to serve as the basis for CID's armed forces and defense. As you know better than perhaps any of the rest of us, the current Solar Defense Force system we have in place is ad hoc to put it lightly. Having been appointed to the Senate Armed Services Committee, it has occurred to me that it would be best to discuss the matter with the actual members of the SDF, in addition to studying what we have left of military history. This is where you come in, Commander.

We have already begun establishing a groundwork for the division of services. I believe it would be wise to bring them to your attention to assess their feasibility within the larger context of military operations present and future. Given that CID military forces will operate across interstellar distances and must be responsible for both deep and near space, and planetary environments, we feel it appropriate to make an easy and clear distinction between these two spheres. We have thus come up with a two service system: Aerospace, tasked with all space-borne operations and most atmospheric ones, and Terrestrial, tasked with all operations upon a planetary surface and ship defense. There would be some overlap between these, of course; Aerospace would likely have its own defense contingents and Terrestrial its own atmospheric support aircraft.

Other elements of command structure have also been debated, including a unified rank system. Relevant files are attached with this document and may be viewed at your leisure. We look forward to your input on these matters. Copies have been sent to other high-ranking members of the SDF as well, if you would like to consult with your colleagues before responding.

We have also managed to retrieve information from the archives on the nearest major systems and are currently weighing options for reestablishing contact with them; this data is included as well. Your opinion in these matters is also highly valued.

I look forward to hearing from you, Commander.

- Senator Marcelino

Hm. Annoying clarification that I'm sorry to have to give: Until you have a shipyard in place (activating your local shipyard is a first-tier tech), ships cannot move on the turn they are built. Silver, you will have to resend orders. (And I'm not quite happy about the conditional orders, but oh well.)

Nice to have Kal'Thzar aboard!

I have orders from TerrisH.

Deadline is Thursday-ish, update ETA Friday.

I've decided to join anyway somehow I'll manage or I will quit another NES.

University Network (University)
Leader: Academician Prokhor Zakharov / Cleric
Home system: Alpha Centauri - 3 Bulk Matter Transmitter Gates (because handwavium, funny as it is sounds is so unbeliveably lame)
Attributes: Brilliant Research (Cheaper research in all field) Hi-tech Industry (Engineers readily implement new technology giving production bonuses to all University worlds) Lack of Ethics (Discontent of the working class resulting in lowered stability)

Stability: 60%
Production: 40 (40 from Chiron), 0 banked
Trade: None
Travel speed: 1 gate/turn
Known systems:

Alpha Centauri (home system) producing 40/turn, maximum capacity {}
3 unknowns bordering Alpha Centauri

Army and Fleet deployment:
Miria: 1000 infantry, 5 Vindi class Scouts, 50 Raptor class Fighters, 1 Arsenal class Carrier

Researched technologies:
Description: The University has always been pushing the boundaries of science, counducting all manner of unethical, immoral, and evil research. This has earned its wrath of the Imperial Republic and forced them into hiding. Now many years after the Great Dissapearance, they have emerged again ready to pursue research unfettered by outside motives and meddling. The brilliant, the unethical, the talented and the reckless will surely find refuge at the University and embrace it as their home.

Ah, so it's just SMAC instead of WH40K. I was so far off. :p Alpha Centauri isn't capable of being selected, BTW.

*IggyPunches Cleric for ripping off Sid Meier*:p

Screw you :) I'll call my planets whatever I like thank you very much. :p

OK, if you want to explain why there's some other system named Alpha Centauri aside from the real Alpha Centauri (which isn't represented on the map, is theoretically claimed by my faction in backstory, and which if you were to join at [if you could] I would kill you ASAP) then that's your perogative. We'll all just laugh at your silly faction when we encounter it for its terrible sense of astrophysics. :p

*Raises eyebrow*
If you're thinking of Babylon 5, his first name was John, not Frank. :) The other idea was Arthur Chalmers, but I've been referencing that enough already as it is.

Hey your not escaping my sceptisim, you can mish mash things if you want, but I'll always beleive the worst. It leads to more pleasant suprises.

Well yes I certainly wouldnt wanna start in the same system in you as that would slow my growth. I'll rename everything Chiron. :p

Or not seeing as Eric already made the map ahhaahhaha.

Hehehe. That happens to me a lot.

Three, you say? Have a map! The funny symbol is what alpha looks like in the Sans font. ;)

Fixinated for stability, production and whatnot. You may send orders now. 45 Production to spend. I advise you research some technology. :)

I like your attitude!

Now we're missing Sheep's Tau, Azale's Star Wars and Josef's Star Trek. :crazyeye:

It makes me happy to know that should I be required to kill somebody, odds are I won't be snuffing out anything unique or vaguely creative. :p

Wow my system looks like a dong.

Hmm, this doesn't surprise me one bit, possibly it surprises me that I could move ships on the same turn if I have a shipyard. But it raises some questions. What could be done on the same turn? By default I would not expect any two distinct things involving the same entity to be doable on the same turn, such as claiming a new system the same turn you arrive, or landing troops on a system the same turn the carrier gets there, or building a large ship the same turn you get the tech for it, etc. But if there are things that don't fit this default, it would be good to know.

@Cleric: I'd say it looks like a slightly askew T. Funny how perceptions vary.

Description: The Congregation is a series of Scientists who had operated as an academic group, fascinated by Time and Thought. They have toiled in secret, building up a workforce by quickgrowing babies in vats. They have sucessfuly augmented their own brains, and are further delving into the realms of time and thought.

Nice clarifications. Good of you to bring them up so that they don't cause problems later. :goodjob: I ought to note that kind of thing down for later. :)

No, you can not build a new unit the turn you get the tech for it - usually you can't even be sure of getting the tech that turn, and until you get a tech, it's vague exactly what units, if any, it allows.

Conditionally, you can land troops the same turn as a Carrier or Transport arrives in a system, the condition being that you control (have space superiority in) the system on the turn you send in the Transport. (This would be the logical course of action anyway, as a troop transport may get shot down if you bring it into combat.)

Similar conditions apply to claiming a system - if the system is peaceful and you've scouted it out, you can spend 10 Production on the turn you arrive.

...and Swissempire, you do realize that augmented brains and the like were one of the main things that disappeared, right? You weren't spared for "toiling in secret". The disaster didn't target the Imperia Republic.
I will probably invoke benevolent ignorance, but please explain what the traits do. I quite specifically put up the handwavium gates to avoid the time-traveling aspect of FTL. Worst case, you only get the research bonus as your single trait.
Also: Google returns 1 200 000 results for Albert Flynn.

Wait, i thought the people who were cyborgs or clones dissapeared. My augmented i meant genetically......... I can of course change this

And by time i meant Time Manipulation, utilizing the 4 dimension to speed things up, slow things down or to scry so to speak.

You fail.

This is, impressively, worse than the various ripoffs from computer games. At least someone with style was involved in their design process at some point.

Thats cool, i'll think up something else. So no superassassins who stab people at the speed of Planck time:(
