Essex class Carrier (US WWII Aircraft Carrier)

it's ok, i'm not planing my latest MOD version release in any nearest future, may be in month or two.

this what i badly need -

S300 - http://www.hellas.org/military/air_force/images/s300-2.jpg
Patriot - http://www.fas.org/spp/starwars/program/patriot-dvic450.jpg
Camanche - http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/camanche.jpg
Puma - http://www.mod.uk/NR/rdonlyres/6B207B61-4462-43D6-8D29-26A64A56C734/0/puma_531x352.jpg

and some more ;)

Hmm, they certainly would be a challenge, eh? Remember when I tried to do that Topol M for you, scary. *shudders*.
But if you would be satisfied with my work, and not want someone better, I could try to give it a whirl..

Hey, at least you can GET a doctor on your country's tab. Most of us in the States are SOL if we get sick and don't have insurance.
Anyway, no rush. I wasn't making a request so much as just throwing out ideas.
Too bad there's no way to get models to change when you get a technology upgrade, so that civs aren't boating around in modern nuclear powered carriers while packed with piston-powered Spitfires during the 1930's.

Yeah, it is nice having doctors for free, very helpful.

I think it would almost be worth adding a Nuclear carrier in for the modern age, use the default graphics and use on of the WWII models out here for the one there now.

Great looking Essex class, with a little tweaking, you could make something along the lines of a Bataan class LHD for amphib assaults (helos and landing craft carrier).

Nice work.

Any pics?

Bataan class? Perhaps he means the Wasp class of LHD's, of which the USS Bataan is the fifth ship of the class (LHD-5).
For a minute, I thought Bataan class meant the "Independence" class of WWII CVLs... like CVL-29 USS Bataan.

Of course they weren't amphibious assault ships!

Ah, very nice. thanks for the image. It is a sure possibility.

I wouldn't mind seeing more Russian ships, like the Kiev, Neustrashimy, Krivak, Polnocny, Ropucha, Kotlin, Zubr/Pomornik, and Kresta II class. During the Cold War, the Russian navy was considered to be one of the best in the world. They had twice as many vessels as the US navy, so I always thought they would have been a better representation of ships like "Destroyer" and "Missile Destroyer" than ships like the Ticonderoga class.

Erm... GeneralMatt, is it possible you let the Essex travel backwards? When I move the ship around, the pointed part of the hull is on the backside...

Hmm, might of. Let me see.

Though both sides do have a point

Too many hits to the head, I guess. Yes, I meant the Wasp-class. I took a little trip on the Bataan when it was brand spanking new, so that's the name that stuck in my head. To go with it, there needs to be an LCAC, that could carry 2 units maybe 1-2 tiles inland? Oh, the LHD could carry gunships as well maybe?

Still, this is some really good work, GeneralMatt.

Ok, thank you for clarifying.

Forgive my ignorance, but a LCAC would be some sort of personnel carrier?

LCAC - Landing Craft Air Cushion - it's a big hovercraft that can carry troops, trucks, artillery, and armor from the well deck of an amphibious landing ship to the beach, and even inland if necessary. Basically, it's a big aluminum platform that rides on a rubber skirt full of air (air cushion part) and is pushed around by two big propellers. (When its running, it sounds like a ginormous vacuum cleaner).

The bigger amphibs can carry two or three in the well deck, the smaller ones carry one, or the more traditional LCU (landing craft utility) which looks a lot like the current transport in Civ.

Sorry, slipped my mind, let me take a peek now...

Yep, looks like it was, thanks for pointing that out. :p It is fixed now.

Unfortunately, there's not much information about this ship, other than it was planned to be about 6,000ft long (as opposed to the Graf Zeppelin's 12,000ft) and carry about 15 aircraft.

Uhm... I think those lengths have extra 0s on the end. ;)

As previously mentioned, it would be nice to see the German Carrier Graf Zeppelin someday (hint, hint).

I guess it will go on my list also. ;)

A bit late, but I thought I put up some pics of the LCAC so everyone knows what you're talking about.

The Wasp class LSD can carry three of these, though my understanding is that it usually carries one or two and fills up the rest of the space with other vessels, since carrying three LCAC's prevents it from carrying anything else.

The Russians also have an LCAC of their own, the largest in the world. It's called Zubr (codenamed Pomornik by NATO).

To be exact, the "modern" transports in Civ4 are the WWII-era LCVP's (Landing Craft Vehicle, Personnel) used primarily by the United States, more commonly called the "Higgin's boat."

Which is why it makes ZERO SENSE what-so-ever, since Higgins boats are coastal craft only, capable of carrying only 36 men or less, are not ocean going and cannot carry significant numbers or size of anything... it's one of the dumbest units to represent a class in the entire game, especially ocean-going modern transports that carry large numbers of troops, tanks and equipment... it was the first unit I replaced with a new graphic when I got into modding things (I used the Liberty Class Transport floating around these boards... I think from the Modern Warfare Mod) to represent the transport.

The Higgins boat? What were they thinking?

Ah great, someone was asking for a hovercraft, one of these will be it. Thanks!
I am working on a little gunboat at the moment, but that is almost done.

Interesting name, Higgins boat, that the name of the guy who invented it? After I realized what it was, I too wondered at it, maybe because it was easy to model? :p
