Customs union was signed recently, next step is common economic space (single market). Also Kazakhstan is interested in military cooperation (unsurprisingly, as they can not protect themselves on their own).

Well, Nazarbayev is only slightly higher then Putin on the "dictatorship meter" (the higher, the worse). So I don't think the economic systems will be that uncombatible.

Well, from economic point of view it plays out better than «free for all democracy» Ukraine-style, or suicidic liberal democracy of Baltic States.

They are through 90s for a second time. Personally I think Ukraine will collapse. Their problem is that they have no elite which is interested to save the country.

Granted, in some ways Ukraine is better then 90's Russia (its troubled region with separatist leanings, Crimea, is kids' game compared to Russian Caucasus, for example), but total corruption in the government + competitive politics present, even though the competitors are shady characters + relatively high freedom of speech + growing apathy and tiredness of the population from the whole thing reminds me of pre-Putinist era.

You think Ukraine is particularly more corrupt than Russia was/is during the oligarchs? (And technically the oligarchs are still around, only they're Putin's cronies now.)

That's why I'm wondering how could there be some country significantly more corrupt than China, until I see Russia. Then I'm not surprised of how corrupted Ukraine is. Anyway, Ukraine is just a small Russia.

Well, hate leads mostly to grief and poverty, so something wise have to leave it aside.

Truly, Putin does not even dread the most deceitful ploys.
With a flag similar to China he distracts the flattered Chinese from Kazakhstan slipping away until it is too late.
