EX II - The German "Equality" Game

Preturn:
We have something like 7 extra Insence and haven't traded it??
I trade Insence to Greece for Contact with Indians and 20 gold (their entire treasury)

India is on a little iceball and is very backwards. They do, however, have 10 extra furs!

I see why we haven't traded anything away.. They are all broke!
We are the only one with Banking. Iroquois could trade 2 techs for Banking but I back out of it.

1325 AD:
Oh No! The Romans start Leos! Too bad for them we have 1 turn to go!

In Pliny's Great History we are 4th in size.

1330 AD:
We complete Leo's! [dance]
Cascades all over the place to Sun Tzu and Copernicus.

1335 AD:
Shaka tries to trade Chivalry for Banking. I decline. I know I can get more from other civs for it.

1340 AD:
Worker movement.
I trade banking/incence away for Chivalry, Astronomy and Printing Press.

1345 AD:
Worker movement,

1350 AD:
France declares war on the Americans!

Forbidden Palace started in Hannover. Due in 17 turns.

1355 AD:
MMWM

1360 AD:
Japan and Iroquois have signed a peace treaty.
Rome cancells our ROP. With a ton of settlers in our territory. Silly AI

Rome wants Banking for Gunpowder and Music theory. Sure, why not?

1365 AD:
OK this really sucks. We have no Saltpeter! Rome does, in the hills, in the icy wasteland by Palmyra I think..
Anyone up to taking on Rome? :)

Berlin starts Bachs Cathedral

1370 AD:
More worker movement. We need to think about taking on Rome.. No Saltpeter is too much to bear. We should at least cut the unprotected road to theirs.

until further notice, i wont be able to play as i am currently using v1.16 of the game (map-making is WAAAAAAAAAAY too slow on the new editor)

What kind of map are you making? For another Ex series game? :)

Did you get the most recent version of the editor?

I noticed that Rome actually has two sources of saltpeter! One of them is very centrally located. In any case, I'm going to spend my ten turns getting started on war preparations. Here we go!!:goodjob:

I've played my turns - I'll post them tomorrow morning (can't fool around anymore tonight ;)

Things didn't go quite as I'd planned - we had more infrastructure work to do and the wonder cascade is brutal right now - we didn't get Sun Tzu, which means we still don't have any barracks... I think we have to build barracks in all cities ASAP.

Anywat, see you in the morning!

1370 AD - Pre-turn - We are doing much better on happiness! I see it's because we are running 20% luxury and only 30% science. Hmmm... Well I don't do anything about it for now other than remove a bunch of superfluous entertainers.

1375 AD - I change Konigsberg to Copernicus's Observatory.

1380 AD - Americans contact us and want to trade their territory map for banking? Uhhh.... NO! I want to start building up our military as I proposed, but none of our cites have barracks yet!! I guess we'll have to wait to see if we get Sun Tsu or not.

1385 AD - Babylonians and English sign Peace. Rome demands our territory map and 58 gold, and I give it too them as we are unable to defend ourselves right now, with no barracks.

Our city of Frankfurt completes the Palace!
I notice several small problems - We are building cathedrals in several cities of size 5 or so. This is very bad - those cites won't need Cathedrals for a long time, if ever. Lots of cities building Cathedrals don't have library's yet either! It seems we still have lots of infrastructure problems...

Berlin is taken off of J.S. Bach's, because the new capitol can build it much faster, even starting from scratch.

1390 AD - I decide that this tax scheme isn't working. I trade India two obsolete techs for furs, and I trade Banking to U.S. for dyes. Don't worry, several other civs already had banking. With these two new luxuries, I lower the luxury rate to 0% and up the science rate to 50%, and even this is at a loss! I decide marketplaces and banks are new highest priority.

1395 AD - Economics discovered - Go for Chemistry since I still hope for war soon.

1400 AD - War Weariness is getting us down now - All the WLTC days are ending. I can't get the Aztecs or Babs to accept peace terms though. I imagine they are going to land troops sometime soon. Maybe when we kill off their task forces they'll want peace.

1405 AD - Horrible news! Americans complete Sun Tsu! Hamburg changed to Adam Smith, but the wonder cascade is horrific - every civ just cascaded. This is bad - I hope we at least get one wonder.

1410 AD - Starting to build barracks in all cities, as their current projects finish. I suggest the next ruler do the same.

1415 AD - The price on Chemistry drops suddenly - the AI must have got it. French complete Copernicus's Observatory! The other cities have both Chemistry and Navigation! I finish Chemistry by buying it of the Romans for a small amount of gold, and start researching the low-cost Navigation. This will give us another wonder if our current ones fall victim to the cascade.

1420 AD - The Cascade continues - lots of civs switch to Magellan's expedition.

Summary of my 10 turns -

Things didn't go exactly as I planned. I wasn't able to really gear up for war, as we still had major infrastructure problems, which were increased when we didn't get Sun Tsu. I still think we need to fight a war soon, maybe when we get Cavalry. I suggest building marketplaces and barracks everywhere, and then start pumping out units. Good Luck!

Note: I can't post the game for another few hours when I get home from work. Sorry!

Good Luck Gojky!

WAR = very dumb idea right now. I can just that the Romans will slaughter us. We ave nothing but spearmen and horsemen, no? We need loads of knights/cavs/pikeen before even thinking of taking on anyone, let alone the Romans. What need to do is to dedicate our entire economy to wartime preparations - and hopefully we will wipe out the Romans or most of them. Also, if the war goes well, we may be able to get some of the other civs to join the war. I do NOT reccomend going to war until at least everyone has played their round (from here on out) at least once. But, I'm not playing for at least several more rounds so, its all your guys' choice.

Brian J, I was using the new editor. It takes like 2 or 3 secs for each tile to be laid down. Also, this will proably be for a different SG since it is a very easy and fun map. I will be releasing it to the public, however. Big and fun, I think.

BTW - I am hoping EXIII will get us a nice, hard map.

I totally agree that war would be dumb - we definately need to prepare a lot. We do have to do it sooner or later, however, as we have no salt peter and afterall, we ARE the Germans! :D

Here is the game (finally)

Go go Gadget arms.

Oh and got it, I plan on getting as many market places and what not done so that we have a robust enough econemy to do what ever we wan't. I also think that we should decide which of the victory conditions we are aiming for.

Personally I have never won by space race so if you guys don't have something more sinister in mind, why not try for that. All we need is lots of cash, and many libraries and uni's.

Also if we go in this direction the war against rome would be foolish. Anyway Bizmark awaits. Bwahahahaha!

The things we do, a science lesson.

Ok, I started my turn reasonably good. Not too many changes, in the country. Rushed the harbor in diamond town and also a temple as I really think this will pay itself back quickly. Fiddle with the science slider to get more cash yet the next tech in the same time. I got sick of the war so I ended it with both the Babs and the Aztecs. I then went through all the diplomacy selling stuff like maps, old techs and right of passages. Got a lot of cash, hehe.

So I pressed next turn and started my 10. Deciding that we need a much better economy and more workers was going to be done on my turn so after the ten turns I managed to pump out over 10 more workers and if you just look a the picture down the bottom you’ll see what I mean by economy.

From here we can either choose to go to war or rush ahead to industrialization so that we can be the first to get rails and then go for tanks or space parts.

Some notes from my turn, the forbidden palace was finished and most of our civ is alive and well. I upgraded 21 spearmen to pike men though we need more barracks to finish the upgrade. Iroquois finished JS Bach and so Koingsberg switched to palace, which will be finished in 9 turns.

We got smiths and hence got about 30 more gpt. Hurrah!!! And even better is that the cascade is finished. Double Hurrah!!! And finally I believe only 2-3 more banks are needed for Wall Street so Koingsberg can be switched to that but will lose about 300 shields. Almost a triple Hurrah!!!

Good luck Brian J.

Preturn:
Wow these turns are getting slow.. even on a fast machine..
We get Democracy. I don't switch just yet. I want to see whats going on first.

We have a long way to go to space flight.. All these workers and our military is still weak vs the Romans!

1475 AD:
After all that waiting, I spend my turn moving workers.

Science rate to 60%, Metallurgy in 6 turns.

I slow down production in Konigsburg. I dont want the palace completing too soon! :crazyeyes

Incense to Iroquois for 8gpt and world map. Gems to Japan for a pathetic 20 gold.

1480 AD:
Zzz

1485 AD:
Zzzz

1490 AD:
We lost our supply of furs and dyes!

Rome REALLY wants Gems! I trade to them for 11gpt, 70 gold, Metallurgy (we had it next turn anyway)
The ever polite Caesar says we must build a closer bond.. or else!

We switch to Physics in 4 turns..

We are Rich, Sire, Rich Rich Rich!

1495 AD:
However, our cities are now rioting due to no luxuries. India wants Metallurgy and Democracy for Furs. We offer them just Democracy. They accept.

Aztecs want 1500 gold for Saltpeter.. Nah..

Dyes from America for Incense, Metallurgy and Wmap

Russia wants 800 gold, Democracy and world map for Saltpeter. Its a deal! ok, still expensive but half the gold the greedy Aztecs want.. I'd tech them a lesson if our military wasn't so pathetic!

28 Pike to Muskets for 800 gold. We are broke now but have a reason to research Military Tradition now! :D

1500 AD:
I feel much better now that we are starting a 'modern' army! I'm going to rush to Cavalry.. them lets see the Romans push us around!

1505 AD:
Konigsburg switches to Wall Street at a cost of 300 shields!

1510 AD:
India wants to trade Wmaps for 5 gold.. sure why not.. PR work.

We learn Physics, start Military Tradition!

Can't even move workers now.. nothing for them to do!

1515 AD:
Move workers around..

Grrr.. It took e so many turns to realize a city is pumping out workers nonstop! I hate that autobuild feature!

1520 AD:
We lost our supply of Ivory! The Aztecs greet us with: "Shall we trade together, or would you prefer to go to war until one of us is wiped off the planet?" Joan wants an exorbitant price for her Ivory. Let her keep it.

1525 AD:
Riots in a few cities. I raise Luxuries to 10%.

England demands Horses. They have 3, count them, 3 cities! OK sure, I feel sorry for them. Maybe whoever is killing them will slow down..

Babylon extends our peace treaty. Sure why not?

1530 AD:
MMWM

1535 AD:
MMWM
We have an average military compared to the Romans now!

1540 AD:
Babylon declared war on Aztecs!

1545 AD:
We learn Military Tradition! Our scientists study Magnetism.

1550 AD:
Greece demands Incense. OK I don't feel like starting a war. They may be far away but all they need to do to screw us up is to get the Romans involved..

I dropped the science rate to afford some upgrades. We now have loads of Cavalry. Mind you so do the Romans probably.. Push it back up to 50 or 60 and go for Nationalism. We need this to protect ourselves from Roman cavalry.

Take advantage of the Saltpeter while it lasts.. maybe even get some of our own. :D

Gojky and all others:

EXI was s space race, so if at all possible I'd like to not win by space race. However, if it ends up that the space race is our only last option, then go for it.

This does not mean don't build a spaceship - that would probab;y make the other civs nervous. If possible, lets build a SS and just keep it on hold. Lets see what else we can do...

BTW - Good job Gojky on your turns. They helped us out a lot!

Forgot to mention, stacks of workers are all over the place in our core lands.. I didn't want to auto-move them too far and had run out of things for them to do locally..

Sorry guys, I wasn't able to get to this one today - I can play it tomorrow though. It's probably for the better, because I wanted to ask you guys a question. The Romans don't have Military Tradition yet, so they don't have ANY cavalry... Do you guys think we should attack them immediately, while we have the advantage?
