I voted for Ottoman Empire, Celts, Vikings, Dutch, Portuguese, Mayans, Byzantine Empire, and Ireland (I know I probably shouldn't have but couldn't resist!)

I voted for Assyria, Babylonia, Carthage, Celts, Iroquois, Mayans, Ottomans, and Vikings.

Russia: He had to conquer Europe from Paris to Moscow before he needed to retreat.

Leipzig: It took the armies of most of Europe (combined) to beat him. Even then they needed a vast amount of luck.

Waterloo: In less than 100 days, he managed to restore France to military glory. If his logistics had been better and his reserve army had moved faster by a matter of hours, Waterloo would be remembered as the battle that secured L'Empereur's place at the head of the European Empire.

Yep.... And the only time the French army could actually do ANYTHING it wasnt being led by a Frenchman! Heheheh! :p

Glad no one complained about my ommissions yet. ;)

OK, I'll go then: Bad monkspider! Leaving out Numidia, for shame!

I did vote for them. We need more Africans I reckon.

Glad to see the Vikings are doing well. Not really surprised, but it always warms my heart! :viking:

Napoleon was french. his parents wern't but when he was born in corsica it was a french territory.
the 1805 campaign leading to the battle of Austerlitze(sp?)
In a few months he had defeated a army that out numbered him 1:3. He also beat 2 emperors 1 prince and 5 dukes in a single battle. No one has ever beaten that record.

Babylonia, should have been in it from the start, period. :P
Dutch, were arguably the most influential/powerful state in the world for a period of time. Anduh, would there be a New York without the Dutch? ;)
Iroquois, to fill the gap of Native (North-)American Civ, basicly...
Korea, lots and lots of gamers... Can't ignore them. ;)
Mayans, basicly the American continents need a few more Civs... Mayans are the obvious 1st choice I recon.
Ottoman Empire, important historicly and a growing gaming market...
Vikings, or a Scandinavian Civ, for it is a arguably big market.

As 8th I wrote Phoenica, which should include Carthage, as it was a Phoenican colony after all.

Well, the total population of Scandinavia (Norway, Sweden, Denmark) is no more than 18 million, so I don't know about that. No, the Vikings should be in because they are cool, or if you need a better reason, because they shaped north-western Europe in dramatic ways. Consider a Europe without a William the Conqueror, for instance...

I like the Polynesian choice. I imagine their special unit could be some kind of a sweet modified galley, with extra sight and the ability to travel to spotted land, or something along those lines. That would kick some serious booty in an archipelago game, as well they should.

18 million of which a majority have computers and seem to be 'reasonably intelligent', which is the group that plays a game like cIV. A group of people like that ARE the target audience of the game, unless I'm making a huge thinking mistake. ;)

Furthermore those Scandinavian countries we are talking about are pretty damn wealthy so a lot of people there can actually buy the game, unlike many (for example) Eastern Europeans. Like, last I checked Poland had a pretty big gaming community but barely buys games, the scene is mostly illegal because the games are too damn expensive for most Poles... :crazyeye:

A great many people in Europe (including my example Poland) have had a similar amount of influence on the region and/or world (when compared to the Scandinavians) but they simply aren't rich enough to buy the game and thus Firaxis is not likely to make those civs (purely out of an 'economic' point of view).

So basicly... Whilst there may not be a whole lot of people in Scandinavia the 'sort' of people that are likely to play AND have the economic means are probably plentiful. ^^

And yes. Vikings are plain cool also, ofcourse. :p

I voted for:
Assyria, Babylonia, Carthage, Celts, Hittities(1st used iron and have only 5 votes huh?!), Iroquos, Mayans, Ottomans, Sumeria, Vikings, Zulus.

Austria/Hungary, Vikings and Ottman Empire.

You forgot Holy Roman Empire, and why are people so damned predictable. First of all Vikings were never a "nation" so you are all dumb that voted for that. We need more medieval nations, and I'm sorely disappointed with the civ community in regards to exit polling results.

I think it's more important to see who you DON'T vote for. My nominations on the "why bother?" list:

Scotland. Seriously. Why? It's part of England, even if it is culturally different. Just leave it that way, or at worst, put in the Celts instead.

Austria-Hungary. No. This is not a civilization. It is a mess of everything around it that happened to be an empire for a while. This does not qualify.

Byzantines. We have Romans already. Byzantines are what happen when half your empire gets eaten and you set up shop in the eastern half.

Dutch. Too small. Not a very large effect on world history.

Hittites. Important way back in the day, but not nearly enough to qualify like bigger contenders like Babylon and the Greeks.

Polynesia. Too small and scattered and generally not very internationally important except as transmitters of culture around Asia.

Portugese. Too much like Spain, but smaller and less important. Don't bother.

Holy Roman Empire. We have the Germans and French already, thanks.
