Fall Further 051 Bug Report Thread

Yes, the generation of a unit applies a race based on the player. Assimilation overrides that in the process of making the unit, but not through the application of building effects function apparently. Thus for Assimilation it is misapplied in Warrens. Should be a simple fix.

Kandros Fir seems to be immortal in my current game. Whenever i take his last city, he survives somehow. I even get the death message and the worldbuilder confirms it, but he is still available for diplomacy.
Does anybody have a solution for my problem?

look around n worldbuilder for chests owned by him, perhaps.

if all else fasils, try placing a unit of his then deleting it again, or killing it with one of your men.

WTH!!? i just abandoned a game with only me (dannmos) and raging pests. hemi, 2 continents, 7 civs.

in that very same game (spooky coincidence?) i needed to heal one of my stooges. the pic is here

One of your stooges has a -heal debuff. The base healing rate in neutral territory is 10% per turn. Withered is -20% healing per turn. You can't heal -10% per turn, so instead you just don't heal at all. Normally, when that happens, the healing icon doesn't show up, but you have two units selected, and the second one is not withered. The game then tries to calculate how long it will take for both units to heal, and the answer is an infinitely long period of time.

Just got fall further installed and running - seems to run fine, but saved games will not load. Any attempt to load a saved fall further game results in a hang followed by a crash to desktop.

- Fall Further mod is loaded
- Both game and saves are current (as far as I know) at version 051, patch C

I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling to see if something didn't work quite right, as well as to get the exact wording of the error message - I remember it said something about 'failed to unpack'...

Any suggestions?

EDit; just tried again, with just the core 051 installation (before installing patch C) and got the same result.

I've got a 64 bit Vista OS, but have never had compatability issues before with Civ IV:BtS or FfH2, so I'm stumped. For completeness of testing, I'll try installing the pacth and see what happens, but I doubt that will change.

The crash appears when I try to load a saved game. I never see a loading screen; instead the game appears to freeze on the main menu screen for about 5 seconds, then crashes. There is an error message about "Failed to unpack" or something similar, but I'm too slow to read it so far...

I'm kind of bummed. I like marathon games, so the lack of save/continue options will make it unplayable if I can't figure out what my computer is doing (and it must be just me; I'd think there would be a lot more traffic on the boards here if others were seeing this...)

Any help from those of you more knowledgable about computers and FF would be appreciated...

EDIT2: Yep, adding patch C yields no change.

is it possible to run vista in 32 bit compatibility mode or somesuch?

I have been running Civ IV BTS and Fall Further .51 patch c with no issues on the 64-bit Windows 7 Release Candidate (Build 7000) for quite a while.

I suppose you could try running it in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP 3 or even as an administrator (right click on the shortcut on your desktop and then go to the "Compatibility" tab and check the options you want.) Try that, see if that helps...

Tried running it as an admin, though haven't tried any compatability modes yet. What confuses me is the phase where the error occurs - the game runs great, for as long as I want to play - it only crashes if I try to load a saved game...

So I dunno - I can't figure out why the game will run, why there are no (apparent) errors while saving a game, but then a crash when I try to load a previously saved game.

EDIT: Still no luck. I'm trying to determine exactly where the fault is (if the saved games themselves are corrupted, or if something in the loading causes an issue...) To help with that, can someone with Fall Further (051 patch C) try to open the attached save and let me know if they have any success? Should be a turn 2 save, Elohim, played on the Fall Further modmod....

EDIT: Disregard loaded save - as Xienwolf notes below, I've accidently used a save with lock modified assets selected, preventing anyone else from opening it...

You have lock modified assets enabled, nobody else is capable of opening your save.

I am assuming these are all saves made while playing the latest game you test, right? Not potentially saves left over from before the patch?

Ah, crud, forgot about the lock modified assets options... :( Thanks for trying, though - I'll see if I can get a fresh early save up here without that option selected.

And yes, tested with all fresh saves. (last few have been turn 1 or turn 2 saves, freshly started, just to see if I could get a save to load correctly...)

EDIT: OK, guess I found the catch... with 'lock modified assets' enabled, my game won't load saved games, but after I deselected that option, games seem to load fine. This works fine for me (I don't think I need to select that option) but I'll leave it to the community here if this qualifies as a bug.

The short version: selecting 'lock modified assets' on some sytems (mine, at least!) on saved games created a crash to desktop when those games were loaded. I can provide any and all other details requested if this bothers anyone enough to pursue it.

Well, LMA is an option that I ALWAYS play with (When actually playing, not testing), and I can load save games with it just fine?

Yeah, I imagine it'd be common enough in use that if there was an issue, we'd have heard about it before now - which means it very well could be just me, which confuses me greatly...

But, on the flip side, I can play now with saves (as long as I don't select LMA) so I guess I won't worry about it for my own gameplay. I'm still curious, though - can't figure out what about my configuration causes the error.

Hrm, peculiar. I had thought that would not be a popular option. Good to hear it isn't flat out broke for everyone. I'll have to ponder on what could possibly be different between systems to cause one to flat out CRASH an LMA instead of just give the "you modified things" message.

Why would you ever want to lock modified assets? It just makes it impossible to go and make changes midgame, like if you notiuce a little bug and want to quickly sort it.
