Fall patch discussion thread

Wait what? Okay I didn't try that so you may be right but what kind of sense does that make if so? The whole point of the balloons is to use them as support units that you link up with your siege units... like I could accept a balloon only affecting the tile it's on but not the surrounding ones, but the opposite scenario is just stupid
Yeah, it doesn't make any sense. Maybe if the balloon had to be in the direction you're firing at. I try not to think too much about whether things in Civ make RL sense, though. I mean, Jane Austen's been scouting for over a thousand years now.

A patch is great and all, but I'm not sure I can install something named "fall patch". I hope they fix this soon...

I have no idea why you are upset about the name? I saw so many posts talking about the "fall" part of this patch being bad. What am I missing? It is fall. They call it the fall patch. What do you suggest they call it?

And don't say autumn patch, firaxis are american of course they wont use british english .

AI is still too timid when attacking.

Germany declared war on me in a deity game, he had a good unit composition, artillery, machine guns, knights. All corps. Surrounded my city, good unit movement, shelling my city defences, then in a few turns he sues for peace...

Granted, the turn after he declared I teched civil engineering for 200 defence, then turn after I teched field cannons and upgraded a few crossbow men, but still he could of easily taken that city..

Hopefully there is an easy fix to the code where the AI is an bit more confident on attack. unit comp, movement etc. seems good

LOL...I was being facetious

AI escorting settler is b***t.
Here's a snapshot of my current Deity game.
I guess the AI is trying to kill me with a heart-attack.
On the left:THREE unescorted settlers. Norwegia knew Ihad a swordsman not far...
On the right: Infinite inquistor spam. I guess somebody expects the Spanish Inquisition, but this is a bit ridiculous.

AI still doesn't upgrade units (at least on huge/marathon.) My crossbowMAN and 2 war carts are tearing up the land mass while Rome and Kongo both have a bunch of slingers and a chariot here and there.

It could means the AI still does not research dead-end tech such as Archery...

Can anyone give some feedback on that point?

After three games diplomacy is still useless and AI seems to be even worse now with war declaration. Plus In all the games ive played ill get these series of turns where every two turns all the AI will try to sue for peace with me, this never happened before. Its very annoying, this game in general is going to wear out my escape key.

I have noticed the AI declaring war more often now, but they still don't send units over sometimes. Russia was at war with me on a fractal map and his cossacks were employed at sea but never reached my destination, simply because my ships were harassing his. He could have made it if he stopped just randomly milling around uselessly (he only moved the units back rather than forwards after they were injured, but the healthy ones never marched onward).

As long as I don't get the option to ditch city states from the game patches won't be good enough for me.

It doesn't matter what they name them unless it means the next patches won't be until Winter and Spring. They have a lot to fix and need to keep dropping regular and frequent patches. Once a month at a minimum until all the glaring problems are resolved. (Late game crashes - had my first last night, Sentry mode, Memorized game settings to name a few)

On the other hand, winter is in one month. We can't seriosuly expect another patch in such a short span. They might get one out for christmas.
It's nice that they are trying to fix the game, but so far I think there's little improvement.

Played the first 50 turns with the new patch on deity.

About 20 turns in Frederick walks 3 warriors into my lands and camps them right outside my capital. Maybe 10 turns later he declares and almost manages to take my city (well done for attacking the city! :goodjob:). I drive him off and go chasing his wounded units with some archers, only to find that he hasn't even settled a 2nd city yet. This is about t40. One settler is camped in his capital, the other is roaming freely outside his capital for me to capture. Obviously I take his capital and both settlers.

I've never seen anything like this before the patch. Sometimes they waited a bit with 2nd and 3rd city, but to not use either of the free settlers before t40?? I wonder if the new unit escorting function somehow messed this up. Since he had so many units hanging out in my lands all game, maybe he didn't consider himself prepared to escort a settler?

It didn't say in the patch features list so I am not hopeful, but did the fall patch add the ability to set teams?

To be honest the patch notes aren't that exciting. So many poor ui choices and qol issues still in the game that shouldn't have made the release version.

Also coming from the paradox games where dev interaction and feedback are common place and you get regular dev diaries I miss that from firaxies.

Worth noting on Civ 5 they initially released 2 patches within days of release due to crash issues. (Sep 2010) They then released a patch 1 month later. 22nd Oct 2010. Followed by a further 2 patches just under 2 months on. The second of these patches was for the Mac Version. (15/16th December.)

So based on this I would expect a further 2 patches in January with maybe another around April time. Note in CiV that further patch 2 months on lowered combat value of horseman and companion cavalry. I wonder if barbs could be given a light horsemen instead?

I also wonder if any patch will tie in with the release of any new Intel and AMD CPU coming out? AMD is giving away Civ 6 with certain AMD graphics cards right now so it would be no great shock for some kind of tie up between the two.
