[BTS] Fast Science Victory - How To?

And of these leaders I think I like Peter best. I think PHI is really good under these conditions (also for Oxford) and EXP is decent as you need to build a lot of workers. I agree that of the UU/UBs that are available, Baray is probably the one that matters at all.

Of course I could be wrong and ORG just triumphs over EXP (=Fred).

On Settler ORG is not necessary, the maintenance costs are super low. I ran 100% science most of the game. You can actually make a steady stream of money by selling techs. Also you're likely to get some early $$$ from huts.

I like the Sacrificial Altar, I think whipping settlers and workers constantly from a high-food city could be really powerful. Would probably need to Oracle CoL though.

On Settler the player starts with mining.
Oh wow, hadn't realized that! So the free techs are: agri, mining, wheel. I think I'd definitely pick a hunting starter though.

Self-failgold just didn't seem to work out in my game, because the other cities were busy and also just because I didn't want to delay the wonder to let other cities build it.
Should depend a bit on the wonder, too. Pretty sure you can afford to delay say Taj for a few turns in exchange for +1k :gold: at the cost of some forests.

Yeah I thought the value of ORG is diminished by quite a bit, but wasn't sure how much. I trust you on this one.

This one I have a hard time buying. You can whip a ton even without SA, I mean you should have every :)-res rather quickly. I don't think it makes sense to Oracle something as cheap as CoL.

Well, it should work the same way with the wonders YOU are finishing.

While I am not interested in digging deeper into settler difficulty, the extra requirement of self-finishing the wonder (no-one else will) to get failgold complicates everything.

Further thought: for the purposes of fastest space colony, deity might be "simpler" than settler? For any given map, the higher the difficulty, the fewer possible strategies exist that results in "not losing".

Most guides are quite old. I will never claim to be a better player than those authors BUT... we benefit from a lot of knowledge and experience since the guides were written. For example, cottages. Early on (BTS, I don't count warlords or original) they were the best tile improvement by a mile. Now we see far fewer of them in an average space colony game.

Oh absolutely. I am talking mostly about the wonders that you certainly want, but there is no rush. Oracle and Taj spring immediately into mind, but probably a few others.

The faster you go the less value in cottages... Grow time remains the same, while payoff has a shorter window.
