I'm voting for Turkey myself. One of the nastiest UPs in the game, a strong UU, one of the strongest AI empires, a great diplomusic, and Istanbul is a gorgeous city. While the main thing Colombia has going for it in my opinion is that Simon Bolivar is pretty cool and that their extremely rapid collapses in the previous SVN made me laugh because of their historical approppriateness.

I was shocked when I saw Colombia is a respawn of Mayan.. I always under impression Maya will never re-spawn if not as Guatemala or such
On top of that, they also got a nice and elegant Purple ^^

Same roots with Christopher Columbus, but Colombia refers to the South American Bolivarian nation, while Columbia is kind of an alternate name for the US of A, as well as being in our capital's name, Washington District of Columbia.

Fantastic UP (my 2nd favorite UP in the game), fantastic UU that synergizes wonderfully with Topkapi Palace + Blue Mosque, bland and yet very useful UB.
Well designed and well balanced Stability Map + UHVs with great potential for Wonder-mongering (which is something I'm very fond of).
Colombia's UU and UP are excellent, and actually similar to Turkish UU and UP in a way, but you only get to use them against much less interesting (and less powerful) opponents. Colombia's UB is generic and rather pointless. What's the difference between it and the Brazilian UB? Oh right, there isn't any! -__-

if not my favorite to play. (too late of a start for me) its one of the best ais, both as an ally and as an opponent.
of course, i have not played the version with colombia yet so i cant knock them really. the ottomans are a tough draw though

I highly recommend Turkey for beginner players,
as they are well poised to militarily, technologically and regionally dominate.
The Mughals being around will teach you how to compete for critical wonders
and with Europeans at your doorstep, you'll learn how to push or be pushed very quickly.
One of the most robustly designed civilizations to play as.
Mehmed's very touchy and I don't invite him to parties,
but Suleiman is welcome to crash my couch any time.
