FfH2 0.34 Cosmetic Issues

I have no idea where to put this so I put it here. Every time I patch 0.34 (A through D so far) the mod icon (the red hyborem bmp thing for your tabletop) is replaced with the standard civ4 icon. Now when I talking about it I'm not even sure the installer found the right icon in the first place.

Mouseover (and civilopedia) for the Heal spell says that it heals all units in the tile. It appears to only heal living units. Tested with Sphener who can heal other units but not himself.

Edit: Sheaim appear to get no benefit from the Rage technology or the Bear Totem building but they can still build it.

The Heal spell only heals living units, and Sphener is not a living unit, because he is an angel, so it would not heal him...

I know that, I said that. My point is that the mouseover and civilopedia say that *ALL* units are healed. That's why I posted this in the Cosmetic issues and the Bug thread. :)

I am using Foxit Reader to view the manual. Unlike Adobe, it doesn’t hang my system or try to get me to install malware. It does have some problems (e.g., the down arrow key or mouse wheel scrolls down from the top of page 5 to the bottom of page 5 to the top of page... 4).
It has no internal spell-check nor any way to export to a format that I can spell-check, so this list was amassed entirely by eye. I am mostly not reporting revisions from FfH .33 to .34, dead links, missing data, grammatical errors, oddly-arranged and -punctuated sentences or Inconsistent Capitalization. I had intended to note some missing words I ran across (er... didn’t) when I was reading up on civ strategies, but can’t find them now I’m looking.

First, a complaint about readability. I have a 21" monitor running at 1280x1024. “Fit Page” (87%) gives me an onscreen image that’s almost exactly 8½ x 11". It’s too hard to read the colored text at that level of magnification and I expect it’s worse for people without 20/20 vision. In particular, there are three colors - a fluorescent light green, a fluorescent light blue and a light tan - which are very nearly the same brightness as the background. This is basic bad design; please use dark colors that contrast with the background. Also, your lines are over 120 characters long. Books, blogs, mags, newspapers - they all run from a little over 60 to a little under 40 characters wide because that format is easier to read. Please use columns.

P.S. I started with the manual because it’s better-spelled and easier to read than the Civilopedia (all those itty bitty sub-panes). (Better-punctuated or -capitalized...not so much.) I might check Hints next - any preferences? Wait! -Guilds!

P.P.S. Fawns are baby deer - wee spindly spotted things.
Fauns are goat-men; minor woods deities.
The Fonz is a “cool” TV character.
Now, look at what FfH calls a Fawn. Which is it?

P3.S. Nay?

Thanks for the feedback. I have included all of the fixes up till the omitted guilds section. I will seek to include the rest when I find some free time again. I am in the process of updating the manual for 34, but am quite busy now so it'll be a bit till it is up to snuff again. For some odd reason, your page numbers are all 4 off from what mine are in OO, possibly they are the same once I move into PDF format though. Just a fun thing to deal with while tracking down the fixes you list :)

I quite welcome such feedback, and if you would like to go further, please post all that you can in the stickied thread for my manual :)

In the civilopedia, the potion of restoration spell says "removes the Potion of Invisibility from caster"

1.
Can I change the visual theme? The 0.34 version is too dark, both monitor-wise or personal taste-wise . I prefer the 0.33 version.

2.
Malakim adept is a female, while the Mage and Archmage are males. I dont think that Malakim encourage gender-changing spell for Mage initation...

The new Ancient Forest graphic makes it hard to see where forest is and is not when there is an elven village or town on top of it. It's also just kind of boring, ancient forests come up in almost every game, and it would be great if there was a truly nice graphic for them (that worked well with elven improvements also).

The Frostling Archer has empty space where its face should be.

In Thessa's entry Devon refers to her as parvulus, which means little one in Latin. (Forty years old is still very young for an elf, after all.) However, this is the masculine form of the word. I suppose he could actually be a Patrian word which just happens to be very similar to Latin but be declined a little differently (perhaps the language didn't distinguish between genders, or perhaps Devon didn't speak this human language well enough to decline it right when he borrowed it to use in his elven tongue), but I'd still much prefer he not refer to his future wife as a male. I think parvulus should be changed to parvula.

The event about the broken sepulchre says that Kylorin locked Barbados in there. Isn't it supposed to be Barbatos?

Also the action to take the War equipment says Cast (TXT_KEY_SPELL_TAKE_WAR)

Auric Ulvin's favorite civic is listed as being Foreign Trade. Maybe this should be changed? (Seeing as he's not really anybody's best buddy.)

I don't think this belongs in the Cosmetic Issues thread, but I agree. He should probably favor god king, as he is the only leader who was literally a god. Theocracy would fit well enough thematically too.

I really think that the Theocracy and Religion civics need to be changed to be more useful for this White Hand worshiping civ.

The new graphics with the devout make scouts and hunters go from male to female (unless crossdressing). Devout go female to male(unless crossdressing)
Is the creation 3 spell change gender?:mischief::lol::confused:

Didn't especially know where to put it, it's not a balance issue or a bug, and it doesn't specifically warrant a thread, soooo...

God King would fit Auric very well though. :goodjob:

I haven't thought of a way to test it yet, so this is just a guess:

Treasure chests that spawn by event spawn as a unit belonging to the player who got the event, and they are Invisible_all to keep other players from stealing them away.

Dies Diei reveals all invisible types, including invisible_all, so someone with the Empyrean Shrine can grab any treasure chest in their borders, as they will be allowed to see them.

Is this what Randolph is talking about? In the attached picture you can tell that the city/village appear to obscure the forest graphic altogether. All of the city and farm improved tiles have forest/ancient forests. It may be intentional that a single tree is now the indication but I liked the old tree infused graphic better. This feels artificial.
BTW, great MOD and thanks for improving the delay between turns (fixed in .33 I believe). I can now actually complete games again.

That's definitely what I'm talking about. It's always been that way, for better or worse, with normal forests, but ancient forests used to appear over the town. I personally liked it better the old way, there was a greener overall appearance to elven empires, and it was much easier to tell where you had forested, and where you hadn't.

In the Broken Sepulre enty, it says the stoen sealing it is broken, the stone sealing it.
