By "different things," just replaying the game in different ways to see what happens? I've actually saved the game after a bunch of hours, so I guess I could go into WB at that point--anything to look for there?
And, I assume this is a "sometimes the Avatar of Wrath causes this," not a "never let the A/C get to 90, because it always happens" thing?
Thanks for the reply, Breunor.
Yes, it is a very 'bad' bug because:
1. It doesn't always happen (the infinite loop bug) when the Avatar of Wrath shows up. There is no easy way to tell how common it is, since not everyone getting the bug reports it, and of course people who get the Avatar of Wrath without the WoC (the infinite loop, standing for 'Waiting for other Civilizations' which displays on the screen endlessly) usually don't report it. Therefore, we can't tell what percentage of games getting to AC 90 get the bug.
Indeed, we didn't even know if the last patch cured the problem or not, although we didn't think so since Kael didn't mention fixing it. It has been around for a while. Your reporting it helps to establish that indeed it is still here.
2. The second reason it is a 'bad' bug is that I have spent a lot of time 'fixing' crashed or WoC games by having people send me the savegame, and then using the worldbuilder to fool around and fix it. I probably fix about 80% or more of the files that are sent - however, my record with the Avatar of Wrath bug is closer to 25%.
If you want, I can try for you - upload a save from the turn before and I'll see if I can fix it, but as I said, not often for this bug. I also haven't done it in a while.
3. Trying 'different things' (to throw the RNG off mostly) also rarely works. The reason we say to try it is exactly from the information above; sometimes the Avatar of Wrath appears and no bug. Therefore, this tactic is pretty much luck based. Try something different, maybe you will be OK. As I said, it doesn't happen often but it has been reported to work a few times.
4. The leading theory, with NO evidence excpet for a little intuition, is that the bug is caused by all of the units getting enraged - but deleting the enraged units also doesn't usually work, perhaps because the random number that enraged some unit, now deleted, will likely get passed to another unit. This theory may be totally wrong.
Good luck!
