clean install and the save you gave me last time, or a fresh game ? ( i think the problem comes from the save somehow)

for the shadow mana, here it is : http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=8279445&postcount=32 i'm not sure why it isn't ingame yet though. Yours is good too by the way.

for the refined one, i like it and i agree about your general comments, i just think it doesn't fit the character of Adept Morin, so we just need to make a new character ^^

Dunno if these has been mentioned before or not, but the barb city Stoville is named 'Stoville DOES THIS APPEAR', so I think the answer to that one is a yes.

There's also a fairly rare event about an influx of students if I remember right - one of the options is to get a library, the other is to get +4 science to a library in that town. Problem is, the get +4 science option is available even if there is no library.

Yes, it was the same save, I'll try a new game, later, and see what happens.

Also, making a new character for the Refined Mana quote is perfectly fine.

Haven't fired up any FFH derivatives for at least a year and this was great fun to download and play with for a bit. Thank you :)!

    A few questions

    1) In at least one of the various FFH modmods there used to be a promotion tree screen in the Civopedia. I found this very helpful in figuring out what promotions to take in advance. Was this intentionally removed from Ashes of Erebus?

    2) Similar to #1, there occasionally also showed up a unit promotion tree. Was this also removed intentionally?

    3) In my game I was playing the Dural, who start off with Law and Mind mana. The first two special statues that they can build give the Loyalty and the Courage promotions, respectively. I think these benefits from the status are a bit redundant with getting Law and Mind mana, for which the Level I spells give Loyalty and Courage. Perhaps the statues could have a different benefit, giving more city happiness or a production bonus or something?

@Black_Imperator: I don't think you could have opened that save, given that there's stuff I messed with, right? Anyway, somebody sent me Civ IV over Steam as a gift (a little early) so I figured why not, wiped my entire installation, and installed through Steam instead. From disc, Civ IV is a single series of nested folders; from Steam, they're all lined up separately (Civ IV and Civ IV BTS are different folders rather than one inside the other). This apparently doesn't cause issues with the base game.

I have the game SVN'd to the appropriate place in Beyond the Sword, revision 215, no additional modules beyond what's pre-installed. So far I've experienced the following:

AI diplomacy on first contact sometimes offers me a blank menu, no options whatsoever, have to use ESC to close it. In games where this happens, the issue is persistent.

I keep getting "failed to compress game data" errors that don't APPEAR to actually affect anything, but I'm sure something, somewhere, is being effected.

The map occasionally loads with no interface and must be ALT-F4'd. Only occasionally.

If I try to run the launcher in administrative mode, I get an application load error 5:0000065434, which apparently has to do with Steam not being in C:, which it isn't, and where I am unwilling to put it.

Also, it incorrectly detects my computer as "below specifications," which I am certain I remember happening in the distant past for some very particular reason. It has an actual impact on performance, despite the fact that the computer is NOT below specifications, because it's refusing to acknowledge that I have things that it apparently needs to run without issue, so it's really frustrating.

What I'm hoping is that all of this sounds super-familiar to someone who is running the game through Steam and who has an easy fix I can pursue. Setting the games to original release hasn't affected things. Worst comes to worst I'll see if I can find my original CDs.

Law 1 grants a temporary form of Loyalty. Mind 1 allows for Inspiration. Courage is independently very valuable, and ordinarily requires Spirit I, not Mind I. If you're getting permanent Loyalty from the statue, that's also valuable, although perhaps not terribly much in singleplayer.

I'm gonna see about that, i can't remember if it was cut or if there was an issue with it.

Are you sure you installed the 3.19 version of steam ? (right click on the game in the steam library, properties, Beta, original_releast_unsupported)

the failed to compress one is a save related bug and is likely my mistake, i'm currently tracking it but it's proving a challenge (i pinpointed the likely revision that introduced it, but so far i'm unable to find out where it comes from exactly)

So I looked at Magister's Modmod(mod?) based on Tholal's MNAI, and it turns out both the promotion chart and the unit promotion chart are in there. I think they come with the Sevopedia. I've never really understood all of the variants on the Civopedia in various mods, maybe Rise from Erebus never integrated the Sevopedia for some reason.

I did some modding of the unit upgrade chart to be a lot more specific and helpful about telling you how units upgrade with all of the special info for your civilization in particular, also filtering out units that are forbidden for the civ in question, units that are based on buildings that are forbidden, and making the special units for the Civ in question double-sized so you can more easily see what is special about the civ that you are playing. I am going to submit it to Magister and see what he thinks and if he'd like to include it in the Magister modmod.

I hope you guys don't mind if I propose some ideas to spruce up the Chislev. These are just some ideas I came up with. I'm pretty sure they're all XML fixes, because they're ideas I'm planning to do myself, and I am an absolute beginner.

Proposed changes: What I'm going to do is come up with a guiding principle and stick to it. I believe the intention was for the Chislev to be a builder Civ that then gears up to go to war. First you build all the infrastructure, then you stomp everyone. So I'll use that as my guide - lorewise it can be flavored as "The Chislev need to rebuild their former glory, then take things further".

So if that's the case, then the first tier of buildings should give some economic bonuses, and be a little cheaper. Some are strictly worse than the buildings they replace, and the Chislev are blocked from some sorely needed economic bonuses. Here's what I am thinking - the elder council replacement gets it specialist slot back. The Totem of the Old enemy gives a 10% military production bonus (ie, the sight of the old enemy stirs up the young warriors and drives them onwards), and I might change the promotion to mobility, as well as change its prerequisite to warfare. The Medicine Hut should end being a kind of replacement (imo) for the infirmary. I'll change its health bonus to a +4, and bump up its science to a +4. The 10% bonus to science can remain gone. For the pagan temple, it still won't get its specialist slot back, but it will receive a 10% bonus to science to make up for the loss of the library. The Council of Shamans on top of what it already has should get a 10% bonus to science. I'll move the Totem of the Bear earlier to Mysticism, and change the effect to a +10 % bonus production with horse/ fur/ some resource.

The Civic: Doesn't really work. I think I'll change it to a cultural values civic, and have it be something like a working towards a common goal type of deal. The effect will be a +20% bonus to production, and a +10% bonus to science, and +25% military production bonus. Also a +1 to happiness for the elder council replacement, and one happiness for each of the totems for a total of 3 extra happiness.

Leaders: Natane is fine as she is. Her traits help afford and defend a large empire. Absaroke is a weird one. I always thought the Chislev were a builder civ, who'd establish themselves, build infrastructure, then conquer. How does raiders fit into this? I suppose it gives a slight military edge, but the Chislev don't strike me as the slash and burn type. I think Imperialistic would be a better fit for Absaroke and lore wise it fits with his dream and shows the aggressiveness of his expansion.

Units: Nothing much I can do with units unless I plan on doing more than xml work. I think the spirit healer needs some work. I am planning on giving it access to Body 1 and Body 2 and life 1 and life 2 on top of its spirit capabilities to make it a more useful unit to build. Basically like building a partial mage.

In the end I want the Chislev to have a series of stacking bonuses for the economy. As you rebuild the tribe' infrastructure, it will bloom. If I was more talented I might do something with units. Perhaps make it so that the arcane line represented by spirit healers is good support, and the archery line makes for good offense on the battlefield?

That looks interesting, i do encourage you to try and make it a module. Don't hesitate to ask me any technical question you may have (, though maybe by pm, to keep the thread focused ^^) .
For the content itself, another concept of the chislev that could use some depth is the fact that they can have semi-independant tribes ( 3 or 4 cities in a place, then others farther away,...), by having buildings boosting cities in the vicinity.

    Hi jackelgull,

I'm the inevitable one weirdo out there who is playing Chislev :D almost nothing but them for the past two years, when time allows for play. I would love to share feedback and recommendations on them for your module, but will be out of town on vacation for a few more days (and not going to try typing it all out on a phone), back on New Years Eve. Good luck on the Chislev-olution until then. :goodjob:

in addition to the 4 that are finalized ( Lorelei, Naxus, Corane and Gaius), 5 more are in various states of work (Reorx and Yakut are almost finished, Mordmorgan has his design finalized but not fully added yet, Gimil is partly done and Hafgan just has the basic concept), and i think we haven't decided on the sixth one yet.

So all ideas for any leader are appreciated, (including leaders that were minor before this update and could be upgraded if a good idea comes up)

For the other khazad emergent leader Aethel perhaps you can have
1st level- double production speed to slave market
2nd level- can make slaves from combat
3rd level- can buy slaves, and 20% gold bonus.

I think we need to re-examine alignment values. There's always been some confusion on what exactally the alignments signify and that's only gotten worse as the alignment system has been expanded. Originally, the Good/Evil dicotomy covered a mixture of ethics and fallen/non-fallen status and although these two are often correlated, they are not the same thing. The Lawful/Chaotic dicotomy was added to give more nuance to the system, but it's meaning is rather muddy.

For example, the only Chaotic/Good leaders we have are Basium and Falamar. Falamar makes a lot of sense here, Basium... not so much. For further weirdness, consider the fact that Order is now a strictly Lawful religion.

I really think we need to make another pass of all the leaders at the very least using a more clearly defined system. I would sugest the D&D system since it's probably the most widely familiar.

    EDIT:
Additionally, I think we should add more content that interacts with the Lawful/Chaotic spectrum. We already have several civics/units/buildings that are locked/change Good/Evil alignment, but none for Lawful/Chaotic alignment

Definitely planned for when we have some time off, yeah. I looked recently at most of the old discussions concerning Broader alignment and that gave way to a bunch of thoughts ( i haven't discussed them with Ronkhar yet so none of that is absolutely certain to get in) :

    1) Good/Evil is where your leader is on the Godswar's chessboard (knowingly or unknowingly). What should modify it isn't what is ethically good or evil, but what makes the lines move. Lawful/chaotic is how your society is organized.

    2) Remove most alignment prereq from events, to change them into alignments modifiers. More generally, expand the ways of modifying alignment

    3) implement a non linear scale, allowing for more varied effects for the different leaders

4)make the diplomatic alignments gradual, so you get better diplo bonuses the closer you are to your neighbour actual alignments, also make those values depend on leader.

    5) Remove diplomatic effect for Lawful/Chaotic, it only serves to decrease the effect of the diplomatic bonuses/maluses. Change into something that has effect on your empire management : lawful would reduce maintenance at the cost of cultural growth while chaotic would be the opposite for example. (link into crime if/when we remake it)

That's most of it i think

Well, as i said, some thoughts i had while reading old threads ( the quantity of good ideas lost in the depths of the forums is astounding ^^) . #1 and #2 are the most likely to get in soon. (even sooner if people want to help with the xml ^^)
