Five Take On The World (Conquests, Deity)

Hmmm... My post got et. this is try two

Agreed that switching Iznik is a good idea. I do think we want a musket in each town as it is cheaper than guarding towns with Sapahi and we do want to avoid viking suprise attacks :)

Relieving cultural pressure on our cities is probably first priority, but I would soon start building a number of cannon. Casualties were fairly high taking out rifles in size 7+ cities and we will save shields in the long run if we soften up the enemy first. I was thinking we soon will want cannon support for our attacks on the Greeks. Iznik can build cannon every 2 and our capitol can be MMed to 40 shields which IIRC is sufficient for a Cannon every turn.

On the 5CC, it is easy for me to remember as I feel the "standard" 5CC is that one can never have more than five cities as you state and the ability to go over five for short periods an easier variant. Still a reminder is a good idea as it a common variant.

I have a few hours before I the appointment, so...

IHT: Iznik switched to Sipahi. I buy Physics from Babylon for an Aliance vs the Vikings, 105 gpt and tm. After that I renew the Silks for Gems with India, where they add add 159 gold and 1 gpt.

IT: Greece counterattacks wit a Crusader, but our musket wins. Edrine: musket->musket. Bursa: musket->Sipahi. Russia finishes Newton.

Turn 1 (360 AD) Regrouping and healing turn.

IT: Fighting between Iroquois and Greeks continues.

Turn 2 (370 AD) 5 Sipahi and a musket move on a mountain SE of Thessalonika.

IT: Iroquois and India sign a MA vs the Vikings. Two rifles from Greece move into our lands. Istanbul: Sipahi->Sipahi. Edrine: musket->musket.

Turn 3 (380 AD)

Attack of two rifles outside Edrine:
-Vet sipahi vs reg rifle: 1 - 3; sipahi retreats.
-Vet sipahi vs 3 hp vet rifle: 3 - 2; rifle killed
-Vet sipahi vs 2 hp reg Rifle: 2 - 1; rifle killed

Siege of size 4 Thessalonika:
-Vet sipahi vs reg rifle: treb hits, 3-0; sipahi promotes and kills rifle
-Vet sipahi vs reg rilfe: treb hits, 0-3; sipahi killed, rifle promoted
-Vet sipahi vs vet rifle: treb missed, 4-3; rifle killed
-Vet sipahi vs reg rifle: longobw misses, 0-4; sipahi killed
-4 hp elite Sipahi vs reg rifle: 3-2; rifle killed
-vet musket vs vet longbow: 4-2; longbow killed and we raze Thessalonika.

IT: Izmit: harbor->trebuchet.

Turn 4 (390 AD) Another healing turn...

IT: Babylon destroyed the Vikings. Edrine: musket->musket. Bursa, Iznik: Sipahi->Sipahi.

Turn 5 (400 AD) I arrange the troops for an attack of Argos next turn. I don't like to take risks and want to attack with our complete stack of Sipahi.

IT: Istanbul: Sipahi->Sipahi.

Turn 6 (410 AD)

Siege of size 9 Argos:
-vet Sipahi vs vet rifle: treb misses, 4-1: rifle is killed
-vet Sipahi vs vet rifle: 1-4; sipahi killed
-vet Sipahi vs reg rifle: 3-2; rifle killed
-vet Sipahi vs 3 hp vet rifle: 0-3; sipahi retreats
-vet Sipahi vs 3 hp vet rifle: 0-3; sipahi retreats
-vet Sipahi vs 3 hp vet rifle: 3-3; rifle killed and Argos is razed

An elite sipahi kills a 2 hp rifle in our lands.

IT: Russia and Greece sign Peace. Greece sneakily drops a rifle and a longbow next to Izmit, which is defended by a warrior. Edrine: musket->Sipahi.

Turn 7 (620 AD) Elite Sipahi kills a hoplite in our territory. A treb takes a hp from the rifle near Izmit. An elite rifle Sipahi fails to promote when killing the rifle, a musket takes out a longbow. The last horse is promoted.

Turn 8 (630 AD) Troops have to heal.

IT: Our Saltpeter deal with Babylon is renewed, but now we pay 31 gpt. Istanbul, Bursa: Sipahi->Sipahi.

Turn 9 (640 AD) I move a total of 13 Sipahi next to Sparta.

IT: Iznik sipahi->sipahi.

Turn 10 (650 AD)

Siege of size 12 Sparta:
-Vet sipahi vs vet rifle: longbow missed, 1-3, sipahi retreats
-Vet sipahi vs vet rifle: 4-3; rifle killed
-Vet sipahi vs vet rifle: 4-1; rifle killed, Sipahi promotes
-Vet sipahi vs reg rifle: 3-1; rifle killed
-Vet sipahi vs 3 hp vet rifle: 3-3; rifle killed
-Elite sipahi vs vet longbow: 4-0; longbow killed, we raze Sparta, together with Sun Tzu :hammer:

I switch Izmit to settler, because we have better sites now :)

Forgive me for my terrible use of the tiles in Edrine. I was focussing on razing too much I think. I leave a few units untouched for the next player. We might think about regrouping and razing Corinth and Knossos. Sparta was very easy to conquer, but note that we really should attack cities with at least 8 sipahi. Scandinavia is gone, I guess we now have to get deals from peace treaties :)

550 AD save

The war zone. Greece is really pathetiec. I only saw rifles, longbows and trebs .

fantastic play Aggie :goodjob: warmonger extraordinaire... :mwaha:

That's helped our culture flip pressure, hasn't it? :D ;)

For the (proper) 5th city, how about the irrigated bonus grassland 2 ne of the iron? That seems best to me, to lock in the iron, to lock up our borders, and as a full, low-corrupt city site.

We will, of course, be razing the Greek cities around that spot ;)

Wonderful war-mongering Aggie! :sniper: :satan: :rocket:

Plays like this deservesd another click on the smilie menu :)

As my points has been radically ignored through out this game, I leave it to others to plan what to do next. :sheep:

Like what?

What to do for now is straightforward...completely cripple the Greeks, clean our peninsula of their presence and leave them 3-5 cities elsewhere, take a winning peace with as much tech as possible.

For our fifth city, I am thinking we might want to build it to take advantage of all those hills near the iron. That would be W-W, or W-NW or NW-NW of the iron.

Since we have to win by conquest, I think we should consider the long haul. Food is unimportant. We have size 12 cities that can pop off workers that can merge into our new city and quickly grow it. With city razing whe can also merge in existing non-foreign workers.

Gettting it to size 7-12 via worker will build the market, courthouse, bank, temple, cathedral we need to become a real city relatively quickly and with the large number of hills, it will become a real powerhouse in terms of creating units in the long term.

If we get very lucky; one of the hills will have coal and we get the iron works.

Sure we're allowed to renegotiate peace :). Given the respective power ratings we might not want to though! :D

Aggie, I have no problem with paying an extra 8gpt or so...but what if we wind up having to pay an extra 40gpt?

I don't think we would ever need to pay that much. Unfortunatelly I've only got a couple of Monarch level OCC's in which I can check this and there I never need to pay more than 150 gold.

EDIT: I also tried it with an old Sid game save. Here also 150 gold for peace is about the maximum price.

Those Iroquois cavalry units in our lands appear to invade us, but their route was quite logical, because Sparta had a lot of cultural territory. I'm almost certain that they aren't after us.

550 AD (0): My how things have changed :D ! First up checking our cities notice Iznik loses 4 shields to corruption. Short Rush a courthouse through a worker and a granary. Pickup spices from Babylon for WM and 200 gold. That allows us to drop lux to 0% and up our income to +248 gpt.

560 AD (1): Edrine builds Sipahi starts another. Iznik builds its courthouse starts a Sipahi. A settler is builds in our 1/2 city and is heading toward the NE to cut off our peninsula in the not too distant future. Start a worker in our half town. Move a stack toward Corith. Another stack is forming up and the sipahi are resting.

570 aD (2): Istanbul builds a sipahi and another is short rushed via a worker/explorer to cut it down to 2 turns. Istanbul is at an even 40 shields. :( stack outside of Corinth falls just short. Newly reseted Sipahi join up and Corinth will fall next turn.

580 AD (3): Babylon joins the war with the Greeks. Izmit builds a worker starts another. Bursa Sipahi starts another. WW is starting up lux to 10%. As expected Corinth and the Great Library are Razed to the ground. A stack is moving towards the next Greek city on the coast. Our settler is heading toward the choke with a musket in tow. Take this time to start a cathedral in Bursa so we can keep lux tax down.

590 AD (4): Okay now this must be a bug. I killed 2 rifles in Knossos and all that remains is a Galleon. WHY IS THE CITY STILL STANDING? Whoops there was a longbow under the Galleon. Whe was is the Operative word. Knossos is razeds. Okay our settler is directly on the wines near the choke. The road to the Greeks is getting a bit crowded and and we can control the pennisula once the city is built next turn.

600 AD (5): Edrine builds a Sipahi and starts a palace. Okay two thoughts here we can use the boost if we centralize the capital and we have real shot at Smiths. Sell off market and harbor at Izmit and the town is abandoned. Aydin is formed on the wines, securing our pennisula. Immediately cash rushed a library to get some culture and expand our boarders. Make a iron colony and upgrade 5 trebuchet to cannons. Trade our new wines to Russia for furs. Drop our lux back to 0%. Can't buy any techs and econ is still 16 turns away. Greeks will give us TEch for Peace.

610 AD (6): Istanbul and Iznik build sipahi. Aydin a library and starts a courthouse. Russia starts Universal Sufferage. We are in a deep hole and need the Greek techs to get out. 10 Sipahi are trying to get to Athens.

620 AD (7): Greece and Iroquios make peace. Athens was well protected. Killed 6 conscript rifles and wounded 2 others but Athens still stands.

630 aD (8): It was down the wire with enough healthy units but Athens and Leos Workshop are razed to the ground. Many Sipahi need to heal before pressing on north ward.

640 AD (9): Resting and waiting for healthy troops to press forward. Greece will give up the last 2 Era techs for peace and gold.

650 AD (10): The good times are over our Golden age ends. Looking at where I placed the city and I realize my [pimp] move to not pickup the iron. I was more concerned about closing the boarders without overlap and secureing another lux to trade than I was about pulling in the iron :smoke:. I rushed the placement. Sorry for the mess up. Anyway not much to do while the units rest up. We can either make peace now and get back into the tech race or continue to attack the Greeks until the land mass is clear. Only a couple Greek towns remain. Good luck!.

Edit: I think I would lean towards taking peace and the 2 techs now from the Greeks before we lose the opportunity to use our free tech. The others have all been industrial for some time and this may be or only shot to get something worth trading.
