better unit flags​

improves unit flag layout and design​

  • horizontal “parade” of unit flags for easier selection
  • red borders for enemy civilizations and their city-state allies

fixes and customizes game features​

  • health bars adjusted to show damage more accurately
  • optionally remove the black “shadow” from unit flags

compatibility with other mods​

known interactions:
  • Sukritact's Simple UI Adjustments: compatible. when both mods are
    installed, Flag Corps manages unit flags.

localization​

the mod is language-independent during play. only the menu screens (Mods and Options) contain localized text.
supported languages:
  • Korean (translated by Hotsolidinfill)

Is their a way to take off the leaders face on the city banners as well. I hate seeing all the faces
 
Some feedback after playing a very war-heavy age this afternoon:
- I think the red border that appears on units when at war is a bit too thick though, it looks like it's being added to the black border making it quite overwhelming to me - about half the thickness would be preferable imo. (I didn't realize there was an option to lower the thickness of the black border at the time - it does help some but I think my point stands here)
- The district health borders are rather thick as well, obscuring units below them. I think scaling this back as well if possible would be nicer. Using the option to remove the border from units doesn't appear to affect this.

A great mod, you really work some magic - thank you! :D
 
It would be nice if you could implement my idea for tweaking the banner borders (if you like it, of course!). The main issue I saw is that all the borders had inconsistent pixel size. The commanders having a 3px wide border, the unit 4px and the health bar 2px. It's all over the place. If you set them all to 2px, cut the height of the HP bar, remove lower border and add a bit of transparency in the background, you get a much nicer result I think:

the red border and the black border are completely independent – the mod option doesn't affect the red ones at all. btw both borders are built into the game – it uses the red ones for hostile Independent Powers, and i thought it made sense to also apply them to major civs & city-states when you're at war. i don't generally make my own icons (as you can probably tell from the super basic icons i put on my mod listings).

i won't be using this mod to make any changes to city banners or districts, because i like to keep my mods ... modular, haha. if i ever get solid ideas for city banners, i'll put them into a separate mod.

that does look sharp! as mentioned above though, all of the existing outlines are graphics built into the game, and i have zero experience with making new assets. most of my clever graphics are borrowed from other parts of the game, rescued from bugs, or occasionally crafted from pure CSS.

If it's editing a texture file I can help, I think I see it's referencing a texture but I don't know how to extract it for use.

that's part of the problem: modders don't have tools yet to extract textures from the game. we'll probably get that in a few months when Firaxis officially supports modding with tools like ModBuddy for civ7. in the meantime, i'm trying to keep things simple, so no planned graphics changes for now. (thanks for offering to help, though!)
 
You certainly have a knack for naming mods. I appreciate the red border on city-states allied with someone I'm at war with. I got stomped playing a game due to not realizing the city-state was hostile. They didn't have a red border so I assumed they were friendly until I saw them attack my units. Since there were units from a city-state I was suzerain of mixed in it was a confusing mess. Particularly since you don't get warns for attacking a friendly/allied city-state.

so i started making that "separate mod" for city banners, and it turned out that there were so many interactions between the banners, unit flags, and health bars that it made more sense to collect it all into a single mod. please enjoy new city banners in Flag Corps version 2.0.0!

It is night and day with comparing vanilla look.
The overall styling match is also looks nice.
BTW, I am on FullHD, and icon blurriness (leader icons too) seem to be on tolerable levels (taking into account the existing limitations)


I have a question regarding civilization icon.
I assume currently it is displayed on Cities and city states.
Towns use specialization instead of civ icon, this is a nice touch to visually differentiate them more from cities.

But when looking at the capital, seem like it really missies that civ icon.
It is the center of civilization, so it would be nice to have that civ icon on it as well (especially when city state has it, but capital doesn't).
It is also a city, so should be qualified for it when looking at initial pattern.


Could you please consider these thoughts?

the capital star, civ symbol, and town focus symbols all share the same UI element (called capital-star because that's what the base game uses it for). it's not possible to show two images using the same element, and my goal is to restyle the banners, not restructure them.

Thanks for fixing the religion icons, love the new way, can't belive I put up with the annoying red icon bug for months..
