Flags!

Here's a third, Celtiberia. The symbol in the middle, for anyone who doesn't know, is a triskell, a pan-Celtic symbol as well as a solar symbol. Being both makes it appropriate for Celtiberia, the southernmost Celtic nation which borders on the Mediterranean Sea.

And here's a fourth. This is another Celtic nation, the Caledonian Confederation which is a confederation of Pictish tribes. The black is for the highlands, the blue for the islands, and the green borders for the lowlands. The three stars are the foundations of the Caledonian Confederation: the crown, the Caledonii, and the Kings' Council of the Confederation.

Isry, I hope you enjoy this. Give it a moment to load; the first time around, it'll wave slowly.

Spoiler Animated flag of Provincial Israel :

You can see ripples moving from one side to the other. :)

I like the animation, I am a big fan of 3D flags.

Maybe I should get GIMP now :p

Actually, that was the sort of animation I came up with Photoshop. I didn't like it because it was the same like most silly animated flags out there (badly connected multiple pictures).

But the one that I'm aiming to develop is something more along these lines: -

hawkwoodensign.gif

Note: That is MY ensign for another game, it's MY copyright but the animation was done by another mate. Therefore, please don't use it.

As I see it, the only possible way is to make hundreds of slides... My mate isn't telling me HIS script so yeah...

Nice flags everyone.

I thought it looked more like a swastika, at least I remember it being described as swastika-like. Then again, there is some resemblance nonetheless.

@Iggy and Thlyaly- Yah, I was kind of leaning to the first version but I wanted to see what other people thought.

@Das-Swastika (normally) goes the other way and, IIRC, only the Buddhist swatika has a curve to it, and that curve is only on the end of the arms, not a spiral like a triskell. Most importantly, the triskell only has three arms, not four. Another example of a triskell woulc be the legs on the flag of the Isle of Man.

EDIT: @Erik- I really like it, the only proble is its just a bit fast to be realistic.

GIMP has a programming language that one can use to write such scripts, and a tutorial on how to make animated flags. :)

Anyway, I looked at your mate's flag (ugly white border, btw) and saw that it consisted of 19 frames each lasting 100ms. So I'll be making a 25-frame animation of Celtiberia, which will be shrunk and sheared.

I reduced it to 18 frames because it fit with the 360-pixel size of the flag after giving it some breathing room, but I'm still happy with how it turned out. I added perspective and gave it a somewhat more 'stately' flutter.

Spoiler :

Here's one I forgot to post. It's the Minoan Confederation. Blue and green ae for sea and the isle of Crete. Gold is for wealth. The shield is because the Minoans see themselves as the guardians of the Aegean, sitting at its opening. The ship because their soceity is based on navy and sea. Black is for the night sky, with which they navigate.

@Erik- I know I said this on AIM but that is really, really, amazing. I would call it perfect except I never call anything perfect. Really, quite good.

Prepare to be astounded, then, because I just figured out how I do cool lighting effects.

Here we go...
Spoiler Minoen Confederation :

Fewer frames used, so it's a bit choppier.

I'll never bow! Yarr! :p
I think adding some shadows & highlights as well would be great and improve the realism.
Nonetheless, it does look good.

@Israelite. While the Celtic ones look really nice in their own right, I feel only the Minoan one would be something I'd be proud to look at from a flagpole. The Celtic ones look like wonderful tapestries..

And Erik, your animation of the Minoan one makes it a flying carpet! :p The shadows and all look great. If we can find the optimum balance between frame number and size, it would be grand.

I thought I just had added lights? :hmm:

Flying carpet, eh? I'll add a flagpole for it to swing from!

The image is actually relatively small - the 10 frames above are only 400KB. In comparison, the single frame of BananaLee's big flag above is 284, Isry's unmodified Celtiberia flag is 552 and my animated Celtiberia flag is 573.

Any suggestions? And what about the Mughal and Afghan flags?

Could i get a flag for the Swade Ascendancy, with the left half Green, the right half Red, and 6 swords, 3 facing 3 in the middle, with a blue circle in the center?

Here is another one, Persia for IsrNES2. The lion with sword in front of the sunset is a traditional Persian emblem seen in several medieval and pre-Islamic flags. Green, opaque white, and red is a traditional Persian tricolour. The dark blue represents the Euphrates and Tigris which converge and flow out to sea in Persia (in TTL) while the light blue is the Persian Gulf.
