I've noticed over many plays that Civs like Byzantium, have a much larger flip zone for the player and AI. Often getting cities in Egypt even Assyria. I've Even one seen Neutral Babylon switching! Other times they don't get even Neutral/Barbarian Egypt. so it is very random feeling. What triggers this? Worldbuilder only shows the typical Greece/Anatolia/Palestine areas.

Mongolia which takes over the entire Turkic core (When the Turks capitol moved to Persia. I made them my vassal and fed them their cities back gotta get that Tributaries city money.) Are there additional flipzone information anywhere to see of this? I see in worldbuilder a Purple flip are and a Red extra flip area? (is that red for AI only additional?)

For China also seems to flip much larger (sometimes even Hong Kong when the English have it) when they return later on.

I play a little older version (July 2020) cause of older saves ^^ So if it this is changed in the meanwhile, I'll shut up. :P

The flipzone is the area that gets flipped to the new civ when it spawns. That is, when if spawns for the first time. For some civs the AI gets a larger area. This is the area that the WB shows. You concluded correctly that purple is the general flipzone and red is the additional zone for the AI only. By default all cities in that area will flip.

When a civ respawns, the area that gets flipped to them is determined by a different method. This does NOT use the flipzone maps that you see in the WB, those are only for the initial spawn. Instead this uses a predefined area for certain civs and the normal area for others. (Both the predefined area and normal area are not visible in the WB) Unlike a spawn, not all cities in that area will flip by default. Instead each city must fulfill certain requirements to be eligible for being flipped. In certain games the conditions are that a certain city does fulfill those requirements while in other games the conditions make the same city fail the requirements.

Ah that clarfifies it somewhat. The first spawn of Byzantium at 335AD? Still puzzles me though, but I assume they get extra cities in Egypt and the Levant when certain requirements? Like Religion? Or maybe Barbarian cities flip easier outside the regular flip zone then Neutrals even? I once played them and they got Roman cities even all the way to Susha. :p Maybe that they were conquered by Greece before then the romans did something?

The Greco Roman populace affects it?

Byzantium is a special case. They can flip all Roman cities in its part of the world.

Thanks I was always a little puzzled but it makes sense now ^^ sometimes Rome can go on a crazy rampage, especially if Greece did the same or Persia just held on to Jerusalem for example.

Today when I played Turkic civilization first my core changed few turns before Mongolia was spawn to which look like Persian core area. And when Mongolia was spawn my old core in Central Asia flip to Mongolia. Which triggered that? Before when I played Turkic this have not happen.

Unless something was changed recently, the core change from Transoxiana to Persia happens when you control all cities in Persia. Which is funny, because IMO the new core you get is worse AND it will be newly conquered, underdeveloped and have little improvements and infrastructure. It's basically a punishment.

Thanks! This explains why core change happened which I think lead to Mongolia flip my old core in Central Asia. I think I will let that last Persia city alone... ;)

Bear in mind that around the year 1600 transoxiana region gets "nuked" - the sheep and camel will disappear and three floodplains will devolve into desert. No idea why this happens, but you might as well migrate to Persia if you plan a longer game.

If you're playing as the Turks and Iran spawns, does your core area in Persia flip or switch to another location? Thinking about how to plan out a future Turks game.
