Flying Blind - A world-building exercise

OOC: the Canal is broken down. The locks are most likely broken, but even if they aren't, they have no hydraulics and no operators. Most things are probably rusted, making it unusable.

He's claiming it. Not closing it.

oh... right.

To Holy Republic of Deseret
From Kingdom of California

California does not wish to come to war, but if it must it will. We may be willing to stop the annexation of Phoenix if our two states could divide Las Vegas in a peaceful manner. Either of us can control a certain side of the city with the dividing line being the strip.

We would also like to propose a joint venture into the rebuilding of Hoover Dam to benefit both our peoples. Power from the dam will be split evenly to keep everyone happy.

Such an agreement is acceptable to the Holy Republic.

It should be stressed that nations with "0"s are not defenseless, especially if this is their first turn, or if they invested into infrastructure.

Spoiler What Happened :
As the new nations of the world began to grow and spread across the planet, they were not conquering a lifeless world. Though far from united, and in far fewer numbers than days gone by, the globe still supported significant populations, whether they lived agrarian lives in the country, or scraped together the ruins of past technology in the scattered cities that dotted the Earth's surface. Some regions thrived, while others underwent dramatic shifts in the way they lasted. Some expanded with ease; others were met with great opposition.

The Americas:
While expansion along the west coast of North America remained relatively peaceful - so far as to see the peaceful partitioning of Las Vegas - the East Coast brought about perhaps the most violent events of the entire world. As the Trade Federation of the Atlantic went about a violent monarchist revolution, its southernmost colonies split off and established a new, democratic government based out of Baltimore, while the denizens of New York City and the immediate surroundings rapidly declared themselves the capital of a new regime spanning the entire nation. Farther to the north, the Hancock Federation met with opposition as it attempted to annex the much larger cities of Montreal and Quebec, which had already united in an attempt to rebuild the Canada of old. To the south, Louisiana joins the ranks of newly independent nations, not so much through violence, as through demanding its relations with Chicago be those of trading partners, rather than a united nation.

Europe & Africa:
Perhaps the quietest region of the globe, Europe largely saw a peaceful and quiet process of internal repair. A notable exception to this rule was in Iberia, where the efforts of the Caliphate were violently opposed across much of the north - by cultural grounds from an independent and democratic Euskal Herria, which mainly succeeded due to its isolation and distance from Cordoba, and more violently from the democratic Iberian Confederation and the decidedly Christian kingdom currently centered around Leon.

Further south, Mali's recent attempts at unifying the region have been underscored by ethnic violence, which as of now has led to the establishment of a looser union - the Confederation of the Niger - in what was once the eastern portions of the republic. Such a solution seems only temporary, though, as both nations strain to hold themselves together in the wake of regional tensions.

Asia & Australia:
While appearing stable to the untrained eye, much of Asia faces perhaps the greatest difficulties in continued expansion. While the Coromandel Regime and the Republic of the Carnarvon Highway have been accepted in their new acquisitions - often with open arms - the Pacong's thalassocratic empire hangs on by a thread, currently only unified by the relative autonomy the distances provide and the force of threat for those who fail to comply. Northwards, the relatively centralized Shanghai Commune has created a densely populated state, but expansion has ground to a halt as the population struggles to support itself.

If you've got secessionist movements, or less EP than normal (especially if you're isolationist), don't panic - you're not behind, by any means.

the King of Cyprus, satisfied that the infrastructure is developed nicely, decides to expand the Military.

21 EP to creating a large navy.
10 EP to creating an Army.

any nation that attempts to conquer us shall find it difficult.

Orders:

6 into Army
8 into Navy
1 into Air Force
1 into acquiring Malta as a stop for merchant ships trading with Cordoba.
1 for annexing Milan and making it into "the Republic of Milan", a protectorate/buffer state of Venice.
1 for annexing the Suez Canal to enable trade with Asia.
4 into improving salt collecting for trade.

EDIT: Seems that either I forgot to spend a few EP or it increased. I've changed my orders.

How come I got so few EPs??????????

6 into Army
8 into Navy
1 into Air Force
1 into acquiring Malta as a stop for merchant ships trading with Cordoba.
3 into fixing the economy.

Just a tip, mrrandomplayer. I don't believe in putting EP randomly into fixing economy in general. That's like throwing money at people and expecting it to fix something.

Put your EPs into a project of your own choosing. For instance, you want to have an export as a trading nation. How about investing in your fisheries?

Maps will be done later.

Expansion:
-1 EP Mainz

-1 EP Hamburg

-1 EP Berlin

-1 EP Zunich (Swiss Capital)

-1 EP Innsbruck (West Austria)

-1 EP Papenburg (Northwestern Germanic coast)

-1 EP Cologne (Rhine-Ruhr)

-1 EP Dresden

-1 EP setting up an enclave in the Venetian Lagoon.

Old World Blues

-Repair the old communication lines and fiber optics cable throughout our nation, linking our major cities together. 3 EP

For the New World

4 EP on making Mainz our agricultural capital. New irrigation will be set up. New livetock will be raised. Grapes will grow again in the Rhineland-Palatinate from our vineyards and the wheat and the corn will be useful for our existing biofuel industries.

3 EP on developing fertilizer production plant in the Rhine-Ruhr. What could be more important to the people of the New Post Apocalyptic World than food? Fertilizer will then be an incredibly valuable commodity, for everyone. This is for export.

3 EP on developing new energy sources for our burgeoning nation! (Reactivate wind turbines, dams, and maybe even a few solar panels or bio fuel plants)

3 EP on the development of the Eyes, the investigative bureau for handling potential threats such as treason and external sabotage.

3 EP on development of the Moral Authority, the rather secretive investigative bureau for handling internal corruption, along with a whole host of other things. Granted Extrajudical powers along with access to any and all information. (No files are to be considered 'confidential' before them.)

-1 EP on setting up a pier and a warehouse, along with a brewary in the enclave at Italy.

From the Xing Dynasty
To the Shanghai Commune

I, Zhou Xing, Second of that Name, Holder of the Mandate of Heaven, Emperor of All China, King of Wuhan, Overlord of the Great World Island, Inspector of the Sunset Continents, Admiral of the Seven Seas, do greet you in peace.

I admire the tenacity of the people and the proletariat for overthrowing the false and blasphemous "King" (translate: Tyrant-Lord) of Shanghai, and thus proving him unworthy of participating in the Mandate of Heaven. We all are Chinese, all stretching from the Great Peaceful Ocean to the east, the Great Hindu Ocean to the South, the Great Yuazien Steppe to the West, and the Great Ice Cube to the North. And we all are one under the great Eye of Heaven: Yellow Emperess, Yezu Chufuzi, Budah, Ahlah and others are his names.

I will offer this deal once, and I will offer this deal one time ONLY. Declare I, and the Xing Dynasty your Sovereign and your rightful Emperor, and cast unto me all your powers and your peoples. In addition, I ask for 1EP of your natively produced goods and crafts of the sea. In return, I shall return them all, name you Suzerain of the Shanghai Commune and Supreme Warden of the Great Pacific Ocean, and let you live under your own, native formed government. Call me not generous, for if you do so we shall grant you gifts beyond imagine from our Mountain Lairs.

However, if you refuse to accept my generous offer, I shall declare you Outlaws, Counterrevolutionaries, and Rebels, and cast you from the gaze of the Eye of Heaven, and unleash upon you the fury of all Sichuan currently under my rule, and burn all you have built to the ground, so that sanctified reconstruction may commence. Until you repent of your decision to reject the above and accept a future deal, the fury shall not end until all is destroyed.

Choose well, my friend. Enter the Empire as a brother, or die as an Outlaw.

OOC: For those who know Chinese, the pinyi hides a pun. ;) Also, worked a bit with time affecting traditions and translations.Suzerainly

For the deal itself, basically grant me everything as per Chinese Absolutism AKA Legalism, and I shall return everything you just gave me right back and accept you as a "independent" client state. The only thing I have absolute power over you on is foreign policy, and even then you can break "orders" as long as you accept consequences. (aka, I will support you in a war only if you provoked it accidentally, did it under my direction, or gave me good reason to not let you suffer for it). Ergo, they are more guidelines. Everything else domestically is totally under your control, with certain things I will ask and you will grant as tribute. Pretty sure this is how/Chinese Client States operate, but if not, differences are from now on assumed to be intentional.

Also, you have 9 in your military and 18 to spend this turn. I have 67 EP. Do the math. I really don't want to destroy you. Negotiation is possible, if done respectfully and according to neo-modern-confucian-stuff principles.

Will there be stats?

Will there be stats?

Yes, and I actually just put a brief overview of events up. The reason they aren't up yet is that, despite being finished, they haven't been formatted. That being said, several players were aware that portions had been completed, and I wanted to give everyone a chance to (start) planning with what I had done.

Militaries, EP (there are some errors - all in that players have more, not less), and number of cities will be published before too long.

Awesome.

Everything should be up now.

RS, Arya, and Nedim - if you don't turn in orders (and history) this turn, you will be NPCd.

any nation that attempts to conquer us shall find it difficult.

Your tiny island won't support that huge ass navy and army. Unless they are legions of wooden sail ships, of course.

We at Belltower, however, is happy to provide solutions. Would you like to purchase some weapons, fertilizer, and biofuel to support your nation and its growing military in order to fully protect your borders and your interests overseas?
