Founding cities on recources

I'm playing as Egypth in the 1.10 version, and the cities I placed on recources don't bring in the extra production and commerce. Or at least it seems like it, the tiles do show the yields of improved recources. But I can't find it back in my city screen. I see no extra production or commerce. So is it there or not?

It doesn't work for food resources, only production and commerce ones. Food resources are capped at +1 food (on top of the basic "city" tile resources, 2 food, 1 hammer, etc)

Have you founded the cities before discovering the necessary techs? IIRC I founded my first Egyptian city on the stone, but didn't get the production boost until discovering Masonry.

Cities function as improvements (excluding food), but you still need the necessary tech for the improvement to get the increased yields.

Why doesn't it work for food? Would that be too overpowered?

It's mostly because food resources are often deliberately placed on the map to discourage founding on these tiles. I would need to change the resource distribution of that was allowed to rebalance everything.
