Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Ah, okay. I think it's probably because you don't have a high enough post count. The admins put in a few restrictions on new accounts to deter bots and spammers.

I'm not sure how old your account has to be before you can edit. You've been here for 10 days, but you only have 3 posts. If you post some more (sorry, not sure how many you need), you'll be able to edit your account. When you can edit, follow the steps I outlined above, and it'll work.

@leif erikson, @The_J, can you please refresh us on how many days and posts a new member needs for editing their account?
Makes sense, thanks so much!

Thanks for notifying @Valka D'Ur

@Jabbaro the normal limit for you to change most things should be 5 days and 5 posts. So if there are issues after your next post, then let me know, I'll have a look.

When you delete a post, it gives you the option of typing in a reason.

Is there any way that ever matters?

I posted a joke. Reread the thread and realized someone had posted the same joke before me. So I deleted my post.

In the Reasons box, I typed "beat to the punch." What will ever be done with that little comment?

Or are there cases when a person's reason for deleting is a significant piece of information and does matter?

It doesn't matter if you give a reason, at least for regular members. It's a courtesy, though, if you make significant changes to your post, and delete or change a point that someone else has replied to.

Moderators, if they edit someone's post, should definitely include the reason why.

There are forums where people aren't allowed to edit. At all. And that's infuriating because sometimes it means that a spelling or punctuation error or even a factual error is there for as long as the post exists.

These are 2 different things though.
Moderators get one option to notify the people why something was altered/deleted, and that we normally do use.
Everyone else, including moderators, gets an option to put down a reason for deletion. We normally don't do anything with it, but it can sometimes be useful to see why something was deleted. But as said, not regularly used.

GitHub is rolling out a two-factor authentication requirement, that must use an authenticator app. This presents an unnecessary inconvenience for me. Will this forum allow me to use links to my google drive for file downloads instead? Thanks.

In principle you can link wherever you want, we don't really have restrictions there.
Unless I missed some built-in Xenforo feature (which might very well be ).
Good to know. Thank you for the quick reply.

Just FYI are you aware of oathtool? It makes these authentication requirements a lot easier to manage.

New question. I'm having trouble linking images from my google drive, but the forum allows me to add images directly to the thread. I have a large number of screen shots I intend to use for a How To thread. If I add them directly, do I need to be concerned about image file size, or total size of all images, or an image limit of any kind?

*edit*
Nevermind. After playing around with google drive, google photos, and drop box, I finally found imgbox, which works!

There is only a restriction here for total numbers per post, and there is no limit on total file size. We'd prefer though if users did not upload Ultra HD screenshots if something low resolution also does the job ;).

Understood. I was once a web developer. I'm actually surprised at the lack of more restrictions, but this should be helpful. This content is intended to be exclusive to Civ Fanatics, so I'll just add it to the forum directly. Thanks for the help.

Any idea when there might be a Civ7 section?

Once upon a time there were more restrictions, and I'm TBH surprised that there aren't more either . We're also hosted in the Xenforo cloud, so I'd have thought that they think about the details of hosting :dunno:.

For the Civ7 section, do you mean in the downloads? Because a forum we already have ;).
If so... when the release gets close. Not much point in much before, I would guess.

Ah hah! Missed that. Linking it now. Thanks again!

how do you add a discussion section to your uploaded resource?

it seems to be default for Civ6 resources, but not Civ5, but I've seen a few Civ5 resources that do have it

How do I not get sent ‘see what you have missed’ emails? I never asked nor signed up for anything like them and I would like this to stop.

Please don't give any joke answers such as ‘come back to CFC’, ‘log in’ or the like.

There is. Go to the button with your profile avatar (your duck), then Preferences —> E-mail options. There you can check or uncheck getting notifications for PM‘s.
