Frequently Asked Questions

Got a problem with immortal promotions.

In the game there are two ways of immortality:
1. Through the "blood of the phoenix" ritual
2. Through the immortal promotion of Immortal Units

Now the "blood of the phoenix promotion" is lost if the unit is killed. But what about the immortal promotion? Is it lost too if the unit is killed or does it still carry it afterwards?

The immortal promotion is lost if the unit is killed. Blood of the phoenix grants the immortal promotion, and certain heroes get it too.

Immortals don't have the immortal promotion. Instead they simply have the effect "resurrected in the civilization's capital if killed". This means it's permanent.

Where in the xml is this noted?

And:
The Immortal Unit is upgraded from a normal unit of level (6 I think, but that not important). As far as I know it changes compleatly to a new unit. Is there a way, to change the xml, so that a unit can be upgraded to an immortal and only get the immortal effect, but stay the way it was bevor(graphicly, typly, in strength, defence, attackbouneses,...)?

To me that sounds like you want something that should done by a spell, that gives a promotion, and not a unit upgrade. But i don't think there are any national limits on certain promotions.
Haven't heard of any unitxmltags that allow maintaining old strengths and graphics after upgrades either.

Yes exactly. That's what I ment. Convert the immortal effect to a Promotion, but which can only be given a certain numers of times.

Well, it's not the upgrade that is important to me but the effect. Do you know anything about the xmls for the immortal effect?

Stupid question, but where can I find the scenarios? And I can't find FfH 1 (I'm assuming there is such a thing)

Here are two questions I would love to know the answer to:

How do I make a settlement?

Is there any way to see what settings I used in Custom Game from within my game?

Breunor - Sorry, I don't have the computer in front of me, but when you load FfH 2, you get a menu. The first item is 'Play Now'. Further down, there is an option saying 'Play a scenario'.

When you hit 'Play a scenario', you get another menu. I think the first item is 'Play an FfH scenario' or something similar. This is the item you hit to get to a scenario. You click on any settings on this menu, and a list of the scenarios should show up. Good luck!

FfH 1 is long gone!

How do I make a settlement?

Breunor - I usually think of settlements as specific to the Kuriotate civilization. The Kuriotates are allowed to have 3 cities only, but they are 'sprawling', meaning they can each work three rings of tiles. They can also build settlements, which effectively give them culture but keep their population at 1. (There are a bunch of 'tricks' to do with settlements but you can find these elsewhere).

So, when you build a settler, and settle, you either get a 'settlement' or a city, which you choose. If you capture a city, you also get the choice. Obviously, if you already have 3 cities, then then newly built or captured become settlements.

Best wishes,

Breunor

I always thought I could make a settlement with any civilisation, if I could find the settings.
I remember seeing a tip about settlements on the loading screen, so I thought they were possible to have with any civilisation.
Is that not the case? Can only Kuriotates have settlements?

There is no reason for anyone besides the Kuriotates to build a settlement - anyone else can just build a city. A settlement is FAR worse. Therefore, they are only for the Kuriotates since the Kuriotates have only three cities.

Okay, thanks. :)

Next question:

Is it possible to play as the Mercurians without having to team with my old civ?

Nope. Sometimes you can manage to transfer all your cities except your capitol to them though, in the first contact interaction before you get the option of which civ to control. If you move your capitol to a lame border town just before the gate is built, you can even get your original capitol in the deal.

Hi :) I accidently turned on the option of choosing your alignment in the beginning of the game for every leader ... don't know where and how I did that. How can I turn it off?

I have access to copper and mithral, but not iron. My units only have bronze weapons. Are you supposed to need all three metals to get mithral weapons?

Not all units can have mithril weapons...

Do you have the proper techs? Metal resources are revealed with one tech, and then utilized with another.

Mithril is revealed and can be used with the same tech (mithril working), unlike bronze (mining --> bronze working) and iron (smelting --> iron working). You do not need iron (or bronze) to use mithril, but some units (longbowmen, warriors, e.g.) can use bronze or iron weapons, but not mithril, so they would be stuck with bronze weapons while your champions, etc. would upgrade to mithril. Also, make sure you move existing units into a city that has access to mithril to upgrade them. They do not automatically upgrade to the new weapons out in the field, even within your cultural borders.
