Full Patch Notes for December Patch

I was hoping that steamrolling, blobing AIs get rebels when they conquer too many other AI cities; but they'd have to have -20 unhappiness. Does this ever happen?

Thanks in advance
Actually, due to the amount of money the AI sees, I wouldn't be surprised if they actually had more happiness than you! A bigger empire in the current game actually means higher net happiness most of the time. :)

Tested this; It is in total.

Meaning if you had a Colosseum and a Circus, at size two, you will on receive two happiness. Not four.
Thanks for testing. :) I'm a little surprised it works that way although it does make more sense from the standpoint of trying to encourage fewer, larger cities and discourage ICS.

"Update to tactical AI pillaging code - now prioritize enemy land resources and trade routes (never regular mines or farms). Always uses the check to make sure AI is not trying to pillage in an enemy dominance zone. Barbarians will still target everything."

Can you explain this to me? It means that AI will NOT pillage my farms or mines? Why? Destroying enemy infrastructure is the best thing t do. Pillaging farms makes my cities starve. Pillaging mines criples economy/production ability.
So I ask. WTH ???? :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

problem is right now they don't prioritize going after your horse/iron/aluminum/etc at the very beginning of the war. those are MUCH more critical to your empire than a few turns of no TP in that border city. if allied cs's are close I'll try to wipe out their startegic resources as well.

Do you think that AI empires that go on conquering sprees will ever have to fight rebels? I've never seen the AI even close to -20 unhappiness. and I've never gone lower than about -12 or so.

I hope that rebels aren't a feature which only exists to counter players who totally ignore happiness.

Slightly more naval units.
Surprised no one has talked about this. When was the last time a patch included new buildings and units? I wonder what these naval units are? Hopefully they will fill the gap between frigate/caravel and destroyer!

I think that means the AI will build slightly more naval units, based on where it is in the list.

I'm pretty sure if they added a new unit, they wouldn't announce it so nonchalantly.

It means the AI will make naval units.

when does the new patch come out?

Yeah, I notice now that the "combat/units" heading is within the larger heading of "AI". :( No new naval units then... but AI building more naval is still good!

สยามเป็นอารยธรรมที่ดีที่สุดในขณะนี้

I think how good Siam is depends on whether Universities get the similar scientist boost.

I'm always a fan of new naval units, but I think it would be fine if they just made the Ironclad useful (something that hasn't happened since Civ2).

No specialist in libraries seems like a pretty severe over-reaction.

Most of this stuff looks good and looks like it will totally change the game. However I think the library should have at least one specialist slot.

I keep seeing this, and I'm still trying to figure out why. Why do you need a specialist slot on the Library? Will research be too slow, otherwise? Will the inability to generate early great scientists mean the game is unwinnable? What exactly is the problem with having to wait until Universities for the Scientist slot?

This is very exciting news and I look forward to the release very much!

I wonder if they'll do a special offer with the DLC because I never even got Babylon, so maybe they'll do a 2-in-1 pack....with it being Xmas an all!:)

Well, this is a 2 in 1 pack, just Spain and the Inca. Babylon is available for $5, so you could get all three plus a scenario for $12.50.

Why do we have a backup option then?
1.0.0.621 has been zipped up already.
New patch breaks stuff around too much for my taste, i could always uninstall everything and reload anew from a backup, wouldn't i?

Maybe i mis-understood the process of BackingUp programs on my PC -- correct me if i'm wrong.

Reloading from a backup as far as I know would require activation and hence patching again.
One way around it would be if you can install the current patch-version of the game on a second computer and keep that computer in offline mode.

Unfortunately the steam-backup feature is not designed with rolling back patches in mind. It's more for people installing their games on a new computer (not wanting to do the whole download again).

EDIT
Valkrionn seems to suggest this is not the case, so maybe I'm completely mistaken. Whatever the case, playing it safe for a couple days doesn't do much harm, and mitigates the risk.

I think they should also tweak 1upt, but not to the full effect that cIV had. I think that you should be able to have up to TWO different military units on one tile; one melee and one ranged.

Also, is this patch addressing the frustrating opening menu setup that never remembers your settings and always goes to default (small map, continents, chieftan)?

It does not. ;)

Just to make sure it was possible, I made a backup and let it update to the current version, then applied the backup; Worked like a charm.

So I've actually tested it. ;)

But as you said, waiting a day or two does no harm.

Even now, the basic part of the setup is remembered - but the game has to be started from the basic setup.

I mean - setup what you want, even advanced settings, but before starting, go from advanced to basic view and only then start the game. The advanced settings will be used. Alas, but not saved. The game remembers only the "basic part" of your settings; the "advanced part" has to be set over and over again.
