Future Update - Speculation Thread

If we are going for spaceballs references, i am guessing we will find out on May 4th. Instead of may the force be with you, it will be may the schwartz be with you.
Not sure if serious but I see no reason to think this.

We'll find out when we find out. The last date I suggested was the 20th (Boston Marathon original day) and I'm not going to come up with any more. Throwing random speculative dates in this thread with no real basis to them at all is just going to fuel more disappointment (and whining).

it was a poke at the spaceballs references that have been going on for a while. no clue when things will be announced or even when the dlc thing will be given its own depot. im not going to come on here and whine they didn't make my imaginary deadline. my opinion on the matter is the same as it has been for months.

What do you think about this pattern:
1 Season 1 DLC: summer 20 (June)
2 Season 2 DLC: autumn 20 (September)
3 Season 3 DLC: winter 20 (December)
4 season 4 DLC: spring 21 (March)
Civilization VII announcement autumn 21
Civilization VII release: spring 22

I think the upcoming dlc will get launched much sooner after another. For making it possible for modders to start working on a finished product. Decreasing the amount of work/frustration with broken mods.

civilization 7 announcement in 2021 would be idle hope. It is not going to happen. 2023/2024 perhaps. It will probably be announced later then sooner what you think.

It's clearly not serious. May 4 is "Star Wars Day" because "May the Fourth" sounds like "may the Force", as in "May the force be with you". In Spaceballs, "Schwartz" is analogous to the Force. Hence, "May the Schwartz..." It's just a joke. Chill.

Because of WFH they have to exchange the final build on storage media, and the only thing Ed had at hand, was a old floppy drive. So 8500 disk, across the country, are keeping US Post alive in these dire times... Original planned to but the load in the ambulance driven by JJ McClure, for a final Cannonball Run.
So I'm going for 5th DLC to be "Floppy", the other branches and Apps was just smoke-screens.

Sorry, I got nothing....

I'm familiar with Star Wars Day and Spaceballs. Chill ;)

But given that this thread has already excluded jokes along the frame of non-seriously claiming that things are 'confirmed' I can't but feel it's helpful not to throw dates out there, even if in jest.

Soon™ is by the way famous for not meaning anything at all. That's Blizzards way of saying "we are not going to tell you, but it certainly won't be soon". It's just a nice way of doing that.

I would expect a much quicker ratio of release, in the weeks range or so. That way you can accompany it by "games of the weeks" or spend time on presenting a scenario and then letting the interest on it play itself out. I always found it sad that they create scenarios for the expansion packs and then nobody plays them since the new civs are so much more exciting to play. So, start in summer and finish two months before Christmas so you can push a final patch and a complete edition out for then. We will see (I'm using that phrase too often).

I'm still wondering if there is a way to further build out expansion and the loyalty mechanic somehow. As it is right now, loyalty doesn't flip cities much from what I've seen.

I wonder if they could add vassals or puppet states that take increased loyalty pressure but don't penalize you for going 'wide'. Or somehow you can expand colonies without building settlers, but these colonies take enhanced loyalty pressure as well.

Just this morning's shower thought.

The main time it does is conquest- maybe occupied cities shouldn't be loyalty flipped? It would certainly make late-game conquest more viable.

or at least make sure you have a garrison in occupied cities to prevent their revolt

These are assets for the Red Death scenario.

My interpretation of this is that either Red Death was intended for a future DLC, but was moved up. Or they accidentally included these files for a future DLC when they patched Red Death into the base game.

But the implication is clear. They are or were, as of last Fall, making at least two more DLCs.

Something to note is that there is no DLC07, the last DLC is DLC06 which refers to Khmer and Indonesia. so DLC07 is completely missing. The Two expansion packs are refered to as XP and XP2 respectively too.

It's also strange that the Red Death scenario is even refered to as DLC08, as opposed to something like CivRoyale.

Considering announcements are on a Tuesday it would be more likely to come the day after on the "Remember the Fifth" day/ Cinco de Mayo (May 5th).

...and when we compare it to the only small cosmetic DLC from them in CIV6, the Scout Cat, the files are named "ScoutCat". DLC in the file-names, are preserved for 1 of the (so fare) 6 paid DLC's.
@Eagle Pursuit : Good find!! The release of Red Death, was also a bit strange; Why a new game-mode in a regular patch/bug fix/game-balancing update? It should defiantly be a separate DLC. And only for Multiplayer?? That sound to me, like the game mode was rushed to release.

Apparently these are files to do with sound, either effects or music or spoken audio. No other scenario includes these kinds of files. I'm not sure if Red Death actually has unique sounds though. I've never played it.
