GalaxyNES- No Horizons

Events had been rough. Tothda had indeed been convinced to move against a number minor clans, which victories fed his arrogance. Vassal troops had been used extensively (and intentionally), and casualties had been high; naturally, this made all but the most loyal vassals restive. Conflict was inevitable, but many whispered that it had been avoidable, indeed that young Ravi, seen more and more at Tothda's ear, had desired the eventual uprising among the vassals. For Tothda's own clan remained strong and largely untouched by the wars of conquest, and these forces were augmented by the few vassals which remained loyal. The war was bloody, but short, and Tothda's house was forcefully put in order.

It was only after all of this internal violence that the true motivations became clear. Tothda, by this point firmly under Ravi's influence, abolished the clan structures of the vanquished in the course of his conflicts. Clans were absorbed into the Tothdilim and those who dissented were put to death (including a former court favorite, Menedit, whose traditionalism had become a nuisance). Children were taken from their parents and fostered on Tothdil warriors and infertile nobles, females were mated to single males, and males enlisted in the military (and the troublesome males gelded). Eventually the brutality sparked more rebellions among the vassals, although these quickly ceased as the same tactics were visited upon the more recent dissenters. In the end, though, no vassal was safe. After those who rebelled were put down, Ravi's whispers continued and Tothda began to see treachery where none existed; when the last gun went silent, Tothda's own brother lay dead, and Tothda now ruled directly over his empire.

Despite his brutal tactics, Tothda had proven his strength, and the Sadhilim worshipped that strength. He came to be seen as a hero, a bright star in the dark sky of Sadhili subservience. For the first time in a generation, Sadhilim began speaking of freedom from the Fehan and the unification of all the Sadhilim.

The Fehan, meanwhile, preoccupied with their own problems, saw warring Sadhilim and encouraged it. Ravi convinced Tothda that an alliance with the Fehan would bring him strength, strength he could one day use against them, and so Tothda began to accept Fehan assistance. He warred with other clans and, bit by bit, began to bring the entire Confederacy under his rule. Eventually, the Fehan attempted to withdraw their support, but Tothda had grown too strong, and he crushed the remaining Sadhili tribes.

And so the Sadhilim tribes were slowly united, but Tothda's reign was not to last...

I can update on Monday or Tuesday night, so I'm thinking of aiming for Monday night (30 hours from now).

The Completion of the Mexxis
After almost over a year of working on it the newest addition to The TRN (Tapani Republic's Navy) is finished, it was launched last afternoon at the Kiera Space Launch Center, the Mexxis was the result of a major fleet buildup after recent contacts with alien species. The Mexxis is a large Capital ship able to bombard planets and ships to oblivion. They are about 1540 Lemterns (2200 feet), it has enough room for 11,000 crew members and officers, it has enough supplies to last for 3 years in space with out resupplying, the Mexxis was assigned to be headed to the Nuxue system to protect the Tapani's colonies in the system.

OOC: Sorry for not writing any stories lately been very busy, This one is short will write longer ones soonish.

(Sorry for not posting lately, my quarter is coming to an end and classes are getting crazy.)

Hatiff sat in his chair and looked around the bridge. Officers were moving around looking at monitors and talking to each other. If you didn't know any better you'd think the ship was doing something important, but all the postings on the FKEG have become more of an honorary position than one of actual use. Years ago the ship returned expecting to take part in an attack against the Fehan, but once they arrived Command canceled the planned attack saying that the Fehan were not an immediate threat and defense should be the main concern.

Despite this command many still hope that we may be used, each time the ship is updated the crew gets excited thinking this is a refit for a new mission. But each time it's for naught. In fact the ship is being updated right now which may explain the activity on the bridge, but Hatiff wasn't holding his breath.

All of a sudden while thinking these somber thoughts the Comm light flashed.

"Sir Command is contacting us."

"Bring them up now."

"Captain Hatiff it has come time to put your crew to use. We have decided that it is time to expand beyond our sector. Our scientist have determined that there is a life sustaining planet within short range. We also determined that there is a potential intelligent species near it but we are not ready for contact now. You are to escort a colonization fleet along with a small defense force and then remain there and observe the nearby sector until further orders are given. Your set to leave as soon as your refit is finished. Command out."

Hatiff was in shock, they had a mission now.

Turning to the Comm Officer, "Well you heard Command, tell the crew we have a mission."

((OOC: The planet to the left of the Akari))

A gallant group of twenty robot madvikings and fifty filthy slaves set out from Tronheim, in the space galley, the Raven. They had heard rumors of a distant land which hadn’t been burned, raped or pillaged by the robotic madviking forces. This group was led by the intrepid Erik the LED. He had made a name for himself when he personally raped a hundred and thirty-three Xristian women on a raid a few years back, the most anyone had ever raped at the time. Rape records are an important part of madviking society, since that was the thing that all madvikings were judged against. A rape record of over fifty is considered decent; above seventy-five is considered good; above a hundred is great. During that same raid, Erik the LED also burned four churches, three monasteries, two farm houses and a partridge in a pear tree.

So it was safe to say that Erik the LED was the most well-known and feared robot madviking in the galaxy. But when they heard that a planetoid, the Planet of the Grapes, hadn’t felt the thrust of the robotic madviking power, Erik the LED decided to pay a visit and see if he could up his rape record.

After several years of travelling across the galaxy, the party sighted on the Planet of the Grapes. They beached on a small grassy meadow, situated in the middle of the forest. The coniferous woods and insects reminded the robotic madvikings a lot of Tronheim. However, they didn’t see much hostile life. They left the ship, battle axes in hand, and explored the local forest.

They walked for about two weeks when they stumbled upon a large earthen mound, obviously unnatural. It was about five meters high and six meters in diameter. Mosses and ferns were growing on the surface of the mound, indicating that this mound was not recently created. Additionally, small rocks were strewn nearby, roughly forming a circle around the mound. One the top was a large white stone in the shape of a pyramid. The mound itself was located in a circular clearing. Erik the LED stepped forward and examined the mound.

The nineteen other madvikings stood around the mound, puzzled by the purpose of the mound. They hadn’t seen anything unnatural since they left the space galley. Slowly, Erik the LED began to move the earth from the mound. What was buried was a being that the madvikings hadn’t seen before. It was only two meters tall (the madvikings were built around three meters tall) and consisted of a very large sphere mounted on thin extremities. The sphere had an opening; a mouth, the madvikings deduced. Above the being was another white stone, this time in the shape of a square. Around the being were more white stones, all different shapes and sizes. The being itself was incased in amber.

As they continued digging they found a manuscript carved on a white stone in a language unknown to the madvikings. So they did a quick search of their RAM and soon found out that the script was written in a language native to the Planet of the Grapes, Aramaic. Once they each downloaded the Aramaic dictionary, they were able to translate the carving. It bore:

HERE LIES KING BORDEAUX XIV
KING OF THE PLANET OF THE GRAPES
435 A.T. - 703 A.T.

“So there is some sort of life on this planet,” one madviking said.

“It seems that this was a very ancient burial site, since my databases say 703 A.T. occurred about 30,000 years ago,” said another.

“It seems that their civilization has moved on elsewhere on this planet,” stated Erik the LED, “We must continue searching for the cities of their civilization to burn, rape and pillage.”

The group left the burial site and pressed on.

OOC: Sorry for lack of activity, been very busy lately...

IC:

What can we say when all we hold dear and true come crashing around us? When Truth is shattered by the blows of our enemies? When our instruments are rendered deaf. When our eyes can no longer see? We surrender, long before the enemy is near for we fear that our neighbors might align with them.

One by one, we fell to the invisible onslaught. Our machines and computers failed and were seized by those malevolent forces. For time slowed down in the mind as days dragged out to eternity an eternity. It was perhaps either a symptom of either intense fascination or the nascent growth of madness. The strings of doubt are pulling, and logic and reason scream to enter the field. Yet we have already forgotten, or chose to ignore, those last moments before our freedoms ended and they arose.

Our good lives have been worth living. We cannot say the same for our children, for our time is over. The Autarchy is no more. Hubris has come to our world.

--------------

The State of Hubridia formally announces the dissolution of the Democratic Autarchy of Akari. In its place, the Democratic Federation will now rule. The State of Hubridia is thus pleased to accept the nomination of the majority of the constituent states of the Democratic Federation as Presiding State of the Federation.

Aw, it's great to see that you guys are still around. Reading your stories brought a huge smile to my face. :)

Madviking, great stuff, but if I could ask, could you not use 'earth names'? I feel it detracts a little from an original setting to have an excessive number of names being direct references to other media or real places. :p

I was there when the war began and when it ended. I was there when the cities fell and when they arose again. I have seen all, been all. I am things at once: old, young, and infinite. I have trod in all places, been all places and am all places. I shall be there at the beginning and the end. I am the beginning and the end. All things begin with my grace and end with it too...

Though we are old, we have not forgotten. Though we are young, we have experienced. Though we are infinite we can still rouse ourselves. Be warned, we are the beginning and the end. We sowed the seed and can reap the harvest. The stars sing our tune and we can hear it. They warn. We warn. You should listen. Fear us, for we are infinite. Ask our mercy for we are magnanimous. But do not trifle with us for in the movements of our fluke are the destruction of worlds and in the opening of our mouths are the deaths of suns.

... In the songs of the suns are death. Imposed by us...

Fear us, for your own sake and ours. Thou hath been warned.

Update 8

Contact between the Fehan and the Vintorez Confederation remains limited- the Vins seem to be shy and distrustful towards this new species, and radically differences in morphology make it difficult for them to relate with their stellar neighbours.

The Fehan have watched with detached concern as the Sadhilim Warlord Tothda triggered as series of bloody wars across Sathan. Following decades of combat, Tothda has succeeded in concentrating a vast amount of power in himself, bringing a unity to the Confederacy that had not been seen since ancient days of myth. Fehan is, with some trepidation, considering its options.

The Karronics have quietly withdrawn from Fehan Space, having determined at the 11th hour that they do not pose a threat to Catifah that could justify all-out invasion. Instead, the First Karronic Expeditionary Group has been dispatched to secure a new planet for colonization and fortification. The settlers have found the as of yet unnamed world to be rather arid, but comfortable and rich in resources.

Under the stealthy observation of the Karronics, the Illegal State of Hubridia has risen to power on Zephyr, dissolving the Democratic Autarchy and replacing it with a radically new Democratic Federation, with itself at the helm.

Far-reaching Trasna explorers have been recalled, as the Tal-Edra continue their titanic mustering, to wipe out the chaos of the Ossudra once and for all.

The Tapani have commissioned their largest military vessel yet, the Mexxis, to defend their colonies at Nuxue. Its powerful weaponry has already proven its worth in destroying a pirate fleet belonging to the same species which sent its forces to abduct the Allentryen nearly a century earlier. However, it has been pointed out that the vessel seems to be much better suited for aggression than defense, and a new line of capital ships looks to be already far into development.

The lone fleet of the Sgligatiki continues its wayward crusade through empty space.

Pleased in his victory over the Zaff, the Zan Shamai has worked to consolidate resourcing operations throughout his domain. The titanic wreckage field between Wairt and Glare has provided vast supplies of metal, as have the burnt-out husks of Wairt and Koraft. Braniga, regrettably, is not particularly easy to collect in its presently atomized state. It can be assumed that planetary vaporization is done mostly for show.

Brimming with confidence and armed with an ever- growing force, Shamai set his sights against two much greater targets. First: the Wera who had the audacity to traverse through the center of his domain; Second: the ancient, unchanging Association of Fplinmy. It would quickly be revealed that despite his victory over the Zaff- a comparatively primitive, albeit psychically powerful, species- his bravado was grossly excessive.

The Zan approached the Wera with a small fleet and Matter Dissociation Weaponry, similar to that used on Braniga. The superweapon was activated against the Wera, but much to Shamai’s surprise it had no effect. The creature seemed to simply phase through the field. Not one to be intimidated, the Zan brought in further reinforcements, launching a rapid invasion of the surface of the leviathan. Disabled and apparently weakened by the first assault- or weakened by its attempts to avoid the weapon- the defeated beast was brought back towards a collection of forces with weaponry that should have been capable of destroying the Wera several times over. However, as the fleets were mustering, the massive creature suddenly broke free, and proceeded to consume and annihilate all of the Zan clustered around it. Its weakness, apparently, had been a ploy- it had been merely toying with its ‘captors’ all along. Swiftly traveling to the eponymous homeworld, the Wera delivered a speech to the cowed Shamai. With that done, the Wera, for lack of a better word to describe the physical warping that went on, kicked the planet, slightly destabilizing its orbit and destroying tremendous amounts of machinery and infrastructure on the surface.

Meanwhile, the warmachines deployed against the Association of Fplinmy fared only slightly better. Seizing several of the planets beneath the orbiting Yjogl herds, the Zan then set out to destroy the colossal beasts themselves. The electromagnetic distortions created by the Yjogl and the psychic prowess of the Yplein proved to be... less than amenable to various communication and automation subsystems the Zan robotic forces. With communications regularly breaking, the disordered forces struck out at their invisible opponents with all of the grace and precision of... well, any inebriated stereotype of your choice. The Yplein emerged in tremendous numbers to protect their steeds, throwing ludicrous numbers against the invading machines to overwhelm them. Heavy arms destroyed a handful of Yjogl, but the losses by the Zan were far higher. Defeated on two fronts, the surviving Zan retreated, leaving the Yjogl with nary a look back.

The losses have been a bitter blow to the self-esteem of Shamai, and have reinforced the fact that he is not a senior Zan. Fellow elder races of the galaxy are not to be dealt with casually, and definitely not to be attacked simultaneously.

The Zaff, broken but not humbled, continue to struggle on. Industry is building up on their two remaining worlds, but they can no longer produce on a level equal to the Zan, and are constantly prepared to flee further. Meanwhile, one refugee fleet and escort was destroyed near Nuxue by Allentryen who, understandably, mistook the armed ships for pirates. Another has successfully run the gauntlet of the Collectivity’s silent, but poised fleets, passing into empty space, heading rimwards away from the Zan. More still flee towards the unknown regions of the galactic core.

The Kog’Vlad, with their single exploratory vessel, are just barely aware of the tremendous warfare waging around them, and are preparing themselves for the potential conflagration.

The Dancer has discovered the presence of a small community of feral Lauki-Maus on La. Reporting the discovery to the leadership of Sanath, the Dancer has taken the small population under her wing. Integrating some Maus neural tissue from a young sample, she opened up communications with them, and has proceeded to serve as a mentor for the colony, which is now thriving on the pristine, banded world of La. The rest of the Collectivity seems to be focused on integration and internal development now, not wanting to risk another potentially destabilizing overexpansion. Meanwhile, Collectivity Astronomers have detected a large number of vessels appearing at the fringes of sensor range, near the outer edge of their galactic arm. Reports are beginning to filter in, reporting the appearance of strange forces of violent, mechanical raiders approaching across a wide front.

Ma’Autra continues to explore. The Nau’Gon fleet, which landed on Tenodera, was caught entirely off guard by the native population. Slaughtering first the landing parties, the Tenoderans then boarded the landed ships and consumed all of the Lauki on board, leaving the Maus alive. Wresting control of the ships, the Tenoderans immediately took off with much of the fleet, setting out into space with the surviving Maus, denied the critical symbiotic companionship of the Lauki, quickly becoming overgrown and psychotic.

A space whale, a lizard man, a mind eating space squid and a tree walk into a planet. Hilarity ensues. When the Lauki-Maus found Zarr, they discovered not only the feral native population, but also a titanic Wera in orbit, hosting a significant population of Choon. After the first two ships sent towards the Wera disappeared abruptly, Ma’Autra switched its focus to the planet. After a first contact attempt went sour, a small massacre of both sides began on the surface. However, as the survivors of the landing team withdrew, vast numbers of Skriv suddenly began to behave abnormally, mechanically loading onto shuttles on their planets and moving out into space, quickly activating the entire derelict fleet scattered around Zarr and moving in to assault the ships of Ma’Autra. Fighting a retreating battle against overwhelming numbers, numerous ships were boarded by the wild Skriv, losing contact with the rest of the fleet. The Lauki-Maus drew the Skriv out towards the colossal Wera, where the berserking forces managed to attract the attention of the massive being. Many of their ships were crushed or shoved away by the first light swipe of the beast, distracting the rest of the fleet and allowing the surviving explorers to power away, in low orbit around the Wera. There, they couldn’t resist taking a few potshots at the Choon, atomizing several of the smaller individuals and barely attracting the notice of the Choon’s host. Declaring their survey a qualified success, the explorers quickly cleared the battlefield and bravely withdrew towards Au. The Skriv would retreat to the surface shortly thereafter, the Choon would recover from the loss of a few drones, and the Wera would decide that this area of space was interesting enough to justify his staying there for the next few centuries.

The Tenoderans have been active in more places than just their homeworld. After waiting centuries with a bizarre amount of patience, the Tenoderan Organism has launched a massive strike against the United Republics of Hedge. Striking both Garv’n and Hedge itself, the Tenoderans invaded in colossal numbers. On Garv’n, the Cherwel and Verthommes found their integration accelerated as they were forced into an alliance of survival. With the might of the Dreamer and the Verthomme fleet in the area, the defenders appeared to have, at least, a fighting chance. Tremendous Tenoderan numbers in space would come to overwhelm the Hedge fleet, which was destroyed to the last, although it did succeed in preventing any further large-scale reinforcements by the invaders. Verthommes provided their weapons and technology, long withheld from the natives, and side by side they bled the Tenoderans for every step of the planet as they were forced further and further back towards their final fortresses.

Meanwhile, the vastly larger force set against Hedge landed almost uncontested- for far too long had the United Republics maintained an excessive military focus on the Garv’n situation. The vast Tenoderan force was able to expand rapidly, laying waste to many of Hedge’s urban centres. The government evacuated to space as the fleets returned to the homeworld, to destroy the Tenoderan forces in space. Success was achieved in that mission, but at a great cost- billions of Verthomme lives have been lost and continue to be lost on the surface, and the Verthomme fleets are reduced to barely a third of their original size. Brutal warfare rages in the surviving remnants of Hedge, as the United Republics exercise their dominance in space to bombard the Tenoderans from orbit. However, this is done only enough to provide breathing room- it is a grimly accepted fact that many Verthomme survivors perish in these bombardments, alongside their invaders. Meanwhile, Garv’n continues to hold out, as Cherwel and Verthomme forces continue to grind away at the depleting forces of Tenodera.

That paragraph was perfectly executed and hilariously true to the sources by all accounts. I seriously applaud this

Thanks! :D

Such defeat should not be felt by a Zan. How a living giant bubble could be so powerful and those others, they defeated my machines. The Zaff were ******** and their technology weak but this new threats and room for expansion, these were advanced species. My machines are indeed numberless but I must seek advice and higher technology if I am to defeat this new threat. I must contact the elders.

"A Wera has been seen in your space Shamai? Do you have proof for such a claim?"
"Yes my elder, I am sending you the evidence right now. My most powerful weapons could not even harm the beast. Weapons aimed at taking whole planets down could not even touch it."
"I am well aware of the power a Wera holds. Physical weaponry will not help in such a fight. Their ability to mend space and deflect anything fired at them is uncanny. We do hold weapons other than mechanical machines to deal with such pests, but only elder Zan are allowed to wield those."
"My Elder, if this Wera will not be dealt with I fear my part of the empire will be gone soon."
"I know this my Shamai. A Wera cannot be defeated by a non-Elder and we cannot give you the weapon to deal with it. A Wera can only be defeated by breaking the fabric of existence around it. Merely attacking is useless. Weras feed on whole stars for their pleasure no attack can even destabilize them. Only by causing the fabric of space itself to break where they are at can bring such beasts down."
"Do the Zan have such weapons that can destroy space itself?"
"Only one such weapon exists in our arsenal and it is kept only by the elders to be used when most needed. It originates from before the cataclysm of our species eons ago. We once traded with others for technology and this hole in reality was bought by us for much resources. Since then our aims changed but this single foreign weapon was kept, in case something that do not exist will meddle with our affairs."
"It is needed my elder for a Wera appeared at my door step"
"Wera do no meddle with those who exist anymore. Leave the Wera alone and stay away from its path. We are gods to all living beings that exist. Yet the Wera are something else. They have ceased to exist like other life forms in the universe. So much power they carry and they use it only to dream while floating in the vacuum of space. Stay away from his path and make it think you have lost interest in it. I will be arriving in a few cycles to deal with this myself. I will bring the reality hole with me to deal with it. As for the other species you seemed to encounter problems with. Think by yourself how to defeat a species which machines have a hard time attacking head on."
"You will be coming to my space my elder?"
"That is what I said Shamai. If you will survive by the time I am there, a defeat of a Wera could mean you will be made elder. Leave the planet Shamai and make sure to stay away from the Wera, move anywhere to keep distance until it loses its interest in you, at least until I come there. Just destroy that species that hide from light. We have no need for them and since they do not occupy planets you can easily use weapons of mass destruction to bring them down. I would like to be amused to watch one of those being attacked by a planet destroyer Shamai."
"Yes my elder. I will do my best to survive."

The Zaff were a joke to me, so easily defeated by merely numbers. Now this new species proves to be tougher. I will increase my numbers and I will attempt to fight from a far. Their space is nearly useless to me as they do not even dwell on planets. I will use my most powerful machines and will increase the number of weapons to destroy planets. I must also look into this new are the elder discovered to me. The Zan had not dealt with new fields of technology for eons. Now I hear it is possible to mend space itself? I will be the Zan to invent this technology for our species. The Hegemony will make me elder in no time if I will solve the problem of space. Imagine I could make whole species just vanish from existence, as for the Wera. I will move my body to Zaff space, as far from it as possible. I will lose all contact with the creature until Tiok Zan arrives or until I find a way to break the fabric of existence myself. I will use my machines to increase my abilities of the mind; perhaps from there an answer will come. Just a few more cycles until another of my species arrive here. I cannot wait. To touch another again, I cannot wait.

ooc: I'm considering making that final weapon to be of Wera origin :p
