Gandhi already confirmed as India's leader? (AGAIN?!)

Yes, people are dumb. Ghandi never held political office. He was an Indian nationalist protestor and activist but he never was at any time the official leader of India. The closest equivalent would be putting Martin Luther King as leader of America. It is absurd to have Ghandi represent India when the country has 5,000 years of history behind it.

Ghandi is present since Civ 1. I believe in every Civ game. Who is stupid? Developers? He is an iconic personality in this franchise.

Ghandi made India an independent country, which seems to be enough to put him in the game, which is not historically accurate. The game is about an alternative history that we create.

Who knows, maybe they'll run the Gandhi logic to its conclusion and give us Joan of Ark, Martin Luther King, Martin Luther ("leader" of the HRE trololololol), Subutai, Hannibal, Marcus Aurelius, and so on. Good times.

Well I'm tired of seeing his face, time for someone else.

I also rather not have similar cases like Elizabeth, Alexander, Montezuma, Ramesses again...

Replace them with Victoria/Churchill, Pericles/Leonidas, Atototzli/Itzcoatl/, Hatshepsut/Thutmose III for a change.

Agreed. Not a fan of Gandhi at all.
Remove him and replace him with anyone else.
Ashoka's name comes up a lot, but seriously, anyone else would be better.

I am really surprised Gandhi was one of the two leaders (with Monty) they didn't replace from Civ V. I think they overestimated the Civ community's interest in him this time around. It would have been wiser to keep in almost anyone else. Like Hiawatha. Since Native Americans are barely represented in Civ VI's base game and instead replaced by the legion of European civs we have this time around.

Isn't Civ VI Monty, Monty the 1st and Civilization 5 Monty, Monty the 2nd?

No.

Civilization IV had Montezuma II.
Civilization V and Civilization VI have Montezuma I.

Ah, ok.

Well, Monty is much more interesting than Gandhi, anyway. :D

i actually love Gandhi... as a historical figure :):) I don't think he's a bad choice as an Indian leader on paper, however

1) Why not have him sit out a game? Especially now Bess and Cathy and Alex and the Caesars are OUT.

2) The way pacifistic leaders are implemented in Civ is generally wrong: a pacifistic leader should be militantly anti-war (similar to Roosevelt in this game, I guess?), not a wimpy pushover.

Gandhi was a tough, tough individual whose inexhaustible drive caused him to persevere and fight for freedom for his people. Put him in if you must, but if he's a pushover AGAIN... then they're not doing him any justice and that's a damn' shame.

In Civilization (the first one), Gandhi was programmed to have the lowest possible aggression rating (1). Once a A.I. civ adopted the Democracy government, though, their aggression rating was programmed to go down -2. There was no negative value in the code, so underflow took Gandhi to the max Aggression value - often around a time he'd be getting nukes.

The follow-ups kept this bug alive as a joke by keeping settings in the AI code where Gandhi will be the most aggressive leader with nukes.

AFAIK The joke is That In CIV I this is because his zero value of 10 in using nukes was bugged when the rng modified it to a -2 it instead turned to 12 making him love nukes.

To me it seems like people want to split India into several civilizations. What is called India is home to many different cultures and span a very long history.

The India represented in civilization V is very much based on modern India, Ghandi/Population Growth with a Mughal reference and the elephant represent a part of Indian warfare and culture over pretty much its entire history.

This representation is like having whole of europe under a single civ ruled by Napoleon with a unique ability called maybe individualism with a caravel unique unit and castle as a unique building.

Even if you remove Ghandi and change India uniques it would still never be a correct representation of India because as long as it is a single civilization it give a very wrong representation.

In other words, because of some bad coding, a social activist named Gandhi who was never the leader of his country keeps coming back to annoy us every game.
Hannibal didn't return after Civ4. He was a Great General, not the leader. Dido was.
Most of the leaders in Civ are actual Kings, Presidents, Emperors etc.
We saw Ashoka in Civ4 but not in Civ6 as of today.
The site below lists the 26 Greatest Leaders of India of all time.

http://www.mensxp.com/special-features/today/8053-26-best-indian-political-leaders-of-all-time.html

You will not find the Gandhi from this game on there at any position.
Why? Because he never led India. Jawaharlal Nehru was in charge during that Gandhi's time. Yet he doesn't get any credit for is accomplishments by Firaxis.

That list is for India, nr the Mughals or some other group. Those would have to be looked up separately.

I believe it was an 8-bit field, so the value actually rolled over to 255. :D

Anyway I love Ghandi strategically. He just wants to be everyone's friend, until suddenly he wants to nuke everyone. He adds a major, unique risk to the game.

At the very least couldn't they get beyond stupid memes and explore more in depth Gandhi's ideas, which have, for better or worse, had at least left major legacies in present-day India? I guess we haven't had the reveal, so here's hoping to something of more substance, or something that gives a deeper nod to India's history.

Heck why not make the man a DLC, so all the meme-happy people can buy it?
