Gator01 - Team B - 100K

4000 (0): I decide to settle one tile to the northeast. Space is right that we can put together a better half-ring there.

3950 (1): We found Salamanca and begin minimum research on the Wheel.

The goodie hut grants us a Navajo warrior.

3800 (4): Barring an unlikely land bridge in the north, there's only one direction in which to explore, so we don't need another scout right now. I let our first build complete as a warrior and begin a granary.

3600 (8): A second goodie hut yields us a Zapotec settler. I haven't seen a barb yet, so I'll start marching him back to our homeland.

3500 (10): There's a second fur source NW of Salamanca.

3450 (11): Our scout discovers gems, after making his way through a lot of arid, mountainous, useless land.

3350 (13): Our scout discovers spices.

3250 (15): Our scout meets the Russians. Cathy has Masonry, BW, and WC in addition to both our techs, two cites, and 48 gold. No deal is possible.

3200 (16): There's no land bridge in the north.

I'll stop here, to permit discussion of what we should do with our gift settler. I'd use it to found a city on the forest tile three SW of Salamanca, committing us to an RCP distance of 3/3.5. We could then found two cities at the same distance north of the capital, and an excellent fishing village to the west. This course of action is open to the objection that our second city would have more grassland and forest (= potential grassland) to itself if founded on the hill just south of the suggested forest tile.

I still haven't seen a barbarian, and there may not be any in the game.

We should probably build a scout next in Salamanca, since there are now two directions in which to explore. After that, a temple might be best. The gift settler allows us the luxury of letting Salamanca accumulate more population before we start producing settlers there.

The barren lands:

I'm in favour. Getting the Mounted Warriors to the front through the mountain range will be maddening, but I think we have to do it.

Agreed. We should also be very careful with tile improvement. No sense improving tiles that will not be worked. We may then be able to afford a road to the AI through the mountains.

Who is up BTW?

Whoever wants to play. We're setting the roster as we go along. :crazyeye:

Well, my unspoilered suggestion about exploration would be that our existing scout should continue moving east, and our next one (to be built after the granary) should push south beyond the mountain range.

Do go ahead and play fourteen turns.

:bump:

Ainwood, were you planning to play? If not, please let us know so some other eager volunteer  can come forward.

This team is somewhat subdued. Didn't the other team finish well before us last time around, and now they would seem to be zooming ahead.

Bed Head, here's your punishment for showing signs of life ;)--could you play?

Oops, somehow missed this before now, and just requested a skip in another game, so I'll have to pass. Sorry. We're really off to some start, aren't we?

Perhaps the other teams will conclude that we're calculating everything with such exquisite precision that they're already doomed.

I'm sorry guys, again I didn't play. I got caught up in other things tonight. :(

I did look at the map again, and I'll add the CrpRings image to maybe get some discussion going on where to put the first cities. If we want maximum coverage an unit support we could cram in 4 cities... They'll never grow very big, but this could give us an early production boost.

The settler is in the purple circle.
