Gay book ban

i was actually thinking of making my signature 'right-wingers are gay' but this one suits my ethical standards more.. ;)

There is no such thing as Homosexuals or Heterosexuals. There is only a choice, to Sin or not to sin.

"I am a Man, creation of God, created to be a creature of reason and emotion, not of animal instinct. I am the Ghost in the Machine, able to choose my own destiny, and not restricted by foolish genetics." -Me

There is a massive contradiction here given that there is evidence of a genetic role in religious faith.

You say you are not restricted by 'foolish genetics' but it could very well be that your entire world-view is determined by a genetic propensity to believe in God.

What if we're not christians?

Please....Belief is a choice. Nobody but me controls MY destiny. Besides, lets say I take your arguement to heart...where does that leave me? Not believing in God? That would be my choice based on the circumstances we are in. Then my worldview would be much like yours I'd imagine, I wonder if Genetics played a part in that?

I've always believed in God, but I didn't know him until October of 1998, before then I was a Christian in name only. I made the choice to know him. This genetic stuff is a very clever tactic that eliminates personal responsibility. It also runs contrary to the prinicples of Democracy. All my decisions are mine and mine and mine alone.

If you would rather live chained to your DNA, that is your business, but know that your life could be alot better....

You will quickly come to a different conclusion if i hold a loaded gun to your head. Don't you think in that case I will be in control of your destiny? My choice of whether or not to pull the trigger on whether you live or die.

OK, but I choose to believe that religion is bunk and that there is nothing inherently wrong with being gay.

Is that a threat? You do realize that that kind of talk could land you in prison, never mind the moderators.

*Sigh*

Why are you right-wingers/believers so hyper? Can't you understand the difference between an argument and a threat?

Never mind. Just imagine I didn't ask that question.

Then that is your decision, and you will have to live with the consquences.

What are the consequences?

What you really mean is die and face the consequences ;) .

Wrong, my mom was friends with someone growing up, and he was Gay, that guy moved away, but a few years later the guy returned and saw my mom one last time, and told her that the gay lifestyle was wrong, and that he'd had enough of it(He became a Christian). All things are a choice. Sometimes I myself am attracted to pictures of men on TV or otherwise, but I fight it. I know better

Once and for all dispelling the myth that homophobes are just repressed homosexuals...

What "consequences" are you referring to? I'd really like to know.
Homosexuality, for one...

And sword of geddon, please don't call me a liberal. It's just a name homophobes use to shut people who disagree with them up.

Well, in the condition it was an argument, I shall answer you.

Having a gun to my head wouldn't take away the decision-making process from me, it would simply present another series of choices, complicated by the fact that your decisions would effect my own.

1. I'm straight, or at least 79.4% sure that I am. ;)

2. Why would being gay be considered a consequence? Unless he was speaking in the nuetral sense where consequences can be positive, negative, or nuetral.

Then don't control ours! You can be as straight as you want, but when you start condemning homosexuality for other people, you start contradicting yourself.

Re: 2.
If you don't have God in your life, there's nothing to stop you from being gay, or something similar. Sword of geddon thinks gayness is a choice, in the same way you chose what to have for lunch today, so without God, you're free to choose gayness (i.e. you're free to pick and chose who you find attractive, and whether or not you find boys attractive).
