German help needed!

why talk about the normal romanian school year? the only thing that affects mirc and the german university is the final romanian school year.
keep it to the point.

third sentence got language smoothed out. especially the "bitte" in midsentence made it look awkward for such a kind of writing.

I suggest a different phrasing:

Da das Schuljahr in Rumänien erst im Juli endet, kann ich meiner Bewerbung leider nur eine notariell beglaubigte Notenübersicht beilegen. Mein Abschlusszeugnis werde ich selbstverständlich sobald wie möglich nachreichen.

Thanks everyone!! This helped me a lot. I just sent in my application, it's going to arrive tomorrow afternoon! :D :D I have huge hopes in it.

I decided to use scherbchen's text (with some of the corrections later presented), but keep in mind holy_king's text wasn't there when I left to do the sending. The one I used is going to do perfectly anyway. :)

I also wrote an email to a professor there to ask a couple of questions (this time I did it on myself, with my rudimentary German, but it was simpler than what I had to say here and I don't want to use perfect language with her anyway since I want her to know I'm so far from fluency still). Hopefully things will go smoothly.

EDIT: Are you going to be in Germany in May-July?
Yes! I'll be in Dusseldorf in late June (and possibly early July too, if things work well - or if I get an amazing girlfriend there like I did last time, when I stayed 2 weeks more than I planned).

That reminds me: you losers doing the Central Europe CFC Meetup should come to Scandinavia when I'm there sometime this summer.
What Central European meetup?

Edit @ Mirc: "single" would be "ledig" in formal German.
Thanks! That was the word I knew (randomly heard about it long ago, remembered it now within a hazy memory), apparently it was right.

:thanx:

Sorry im late, but you know sending a DINA4 envelope from Germany to Romania costs € 3,00 instead of € 1,45 (which would be the price for sending it within Germany)? :(

#$%(! I sent the equivalent of a €2,5 one, just to be safe with the exchange rate! Oh the irony, I was only 50 cents off!

Well...according to this this (in German) you can still get a standard size letter for € 1,25, though 50gr max weight.
One option would be calling them and asking what they will do. Maybe even the postal service will ask you to pay for the letter sent back with an insufficient postage stamp.
Of course you can still send another postage stamp with a remark what you want them to do with it.

edit: Stay calm, i know this is exciting, but these clerks opening your letter are still normal people. So no reason to go postal yet. ;)

He can also send a new letter using my phrase. :mischief:

Don't worry, I'm calm. :) I'm sure I can talk to them at some point if things don't go right. So if the letter is under 50 grams, it might actually be sendable with the money I sent already.

He can also send a new letter using my phrase. :mischief:

You know, I could also send it via express courier and have it delivered before this one! :p

(I'd have to pay some 100 euros for that though :p)

please let us know if things work out for you :)

best of luck.

oooh... we like beer...

oooh... we like beer...

:D I know, I know, after all you all like beer, have large moustaches and big blue eyes, right? :p

I'm not really there, as I left quite a while ago, but thanks anyway.

I just noticed your location... Heh you're not far at all from where I will be living if things go right (Dusseldorf). In fact you might be closer than scherbchen (although that depends on where he lives).

moustaches? only cops and gay men who are into leather...

I live in Munich btw, though originally from Westphalia as well :)

:bump: Hey guys! :D

I attempted to make a short email for the teacher who helped me so far with my admission procedure. Can you correct this text for me?

It's probably full of mistakes. But at least I've done it without any kind of help from my teacher.

This is in response to his email telling me that the kind of paper I need from them (an invitation, basically) can be sent only after I complete my registration process (and after they receive it, of course).

Sehr geehrter Herr I'mHidingHisName,

Mirc

(yes, I copied the ending formula from his email, I didn't make it myself :p If it's not appropriate, please do correct it!)

What I meant to write (English):
Spoiler :
Dear Mr. I'mHidingHisName,

Thanks a lot for your answer!

Around 2 weeks ago I sent in my application. The university should have received it one week ago, on Monday or Tuesday. Therefore, I would like to know if the university will send me a(ny kind of) confirmation. I'm asking you this because I need the invitation (what you call a "visa invitation") for my school here in Romania as soon as possible, so I would like to know whether the university received my application.

Yours sincerely,
Mirc

I know it sounds a little bit lacking, but that's the best I could do at this point, I think... If this sounds in any way impolite or inappropriate or disrespectful, please tell me! I know how easy it is to give the wrong impression on something like this! Fine nuances of a language are especially hard to get for a foreigner.

ok, i'm gonna rephrase from here on:

Da meine Schule in Rumänien eine Bestätigung meines Visums benötigt, möchte ich Sie darum bitten, mich, sobald jene, meine Bewerbungsunterlagen angekommen sind, über ebendieses in Kenntnis zu setzen.

(you dont hope to have helped him, you want a confirmation from him, so snip this)

Whoa, thanks! :thanx:

I just wanted to clear something up - the invitation I need is not actually for a visa*, but for my school - so I can take some of the exams earlier than usual.

* = I don't need a visa, as my country is in the EU I don't even need a passport for any kind of activity in Germany. They just called it an "invitation for your visa" because they are used to that kind of invitation - and it is indeed the kind that I need.

What I am getting from the first part of what you said is "as my school needs/requires the invitation for my visa", which is not what I meant (I meant that I need the invitation, what they call a "visa invitation", so I can give it to my school as soon as possible). But of course I could be getting this completely wrong!

Really I'm just making sure! Thanks so much anyway! :goodjob:

:rotfl: That's why I'm double-checking everything with natives or language teachers!
