I'm not sure he's one who can send it (he's only a teacher and an international relations contact person).

I'm just justifying my desire to know whether they received the application or not - by the fact that I need that paper quickly (thus also reminding him about this thing). In my application, there was no place where I could specify that I need this, therefore he's the only one that can help me with this. Which is why I'm eager to mention this invitation (to keep it in his mind).

Thanks again man. I would have spent such a long time with my teacher (on my own money and very little time) making little emails like this that I need.

"Invitatie oficiala" -> Official invitation.

Basically I need a paper that can confirm that I'll be at exams abroad in the time (because I need to prove that I have something to do then). When I explained what I needed (with the help of my teacher) the guy called it "die Bescheinigung fur Ihre Visum", so I just left it at that. Thinking about it, an invitation formatted like one for a visa is exactly what I need. If he sends me whatever he would send a guy in Kazakhstan for him to get a German visa, I'll be completely fine with it!

I have another question to any of the people here who speak German - would anyone be willing to help me with a longer text (around half an A4 page, I think) for another email? I don't think it should take too long though (maybe 15-20 minutes of work?). I'm kind of embarrassed to ask after all the help that you guys have given me! If not, it's no problem, I will ask my German teacher to do this the day after tomorrow.

The thing is, I'm not that entranced at the idea of making the text of it public, so if anyone can, I'd be glad if we could do it via PM rather than this thread.

This time it's got too complex ideas for me to attempt to write it myself.

Just wondering, again I'm a little embarrassed to ask for more help after all I got here. I'm just a bit stressed in this period as I need their answer by the end of the week and they didn't answer any of my emails in the past 9 days or so.

Anyway, new question - what's the difference between "Hauptfach" and "Studiengang"?

The international relations person answered me in time, and he told me that to send my invitation, he needs to know: "den Studiengang und das Hauptfach für welchen Sie sich an der Robert Schumann Hochschule beworben haben.".

Anyone have any idea? Otherwise I'm just going to make an email to ask him what it is.

Accordingly to their literal meaning, it is that "Hauptfach" is the school subject where you dedicated most of your time as a student and succeeded to graduate in it, while "Studiengang" means your career and the history of your accomplishments in school in the general sense.

Studiengang is the name of the BA (or Diplom, Magister etc.) you're going to choose whereas Hauptfach refers to the discipline you're going to spend most (>=50 %) of your time. In many Studiengängen, you're somewhat free to choose the balance between the different disciplines related to the Studiengang.

Example: you may get a BA in Political Economy (=Studiengang)
Possible Hauptfach: Political Science (75 %) with Economics (25 %) as Nebenfach

I'm not sure whether Hauptfach/Nebenfach has the same meaning as major/minor in the US.

Hey, it has been a long time since I set a step over the threshold of a public school! And I think that the meaning of specific terms vary from place to place too!

Studiengang refers to the type of diploma you will get and restricts you to certain courses or allows you to partake in others. you may study, say, English in order to becoma a teacher (Lehramt) or in order to have what I suppose you'd call a liberal arts degree (Magister).

Hauptfach are the one or two main subjects of your studies, often limited to certain combinations and something you will have to be decided on once you enroll though often these can be changed with some hassle. If you were studying history your Hauptfach might be early modern history with a minor (Nebenfach) in American culture studies and a minor in ancient history (at my University 2 minors add up to one major, history requires 2 majors but you can not pick a second major but have to pick one minor from your field and one from a different faculty).
