I think they'd abandon it the moment they knew we'd get it. The upside to all this is if Saber's building it they're not building anything else in a big city. Wotan can you check the top 5 cities next turn. I'd be interested how big their capital is.

SABER capital is size 7. We will be in position to attack it on the second turn after landing. So they will be more or less ina position to give up if they raze their capital so soon after our landing.

I don't see why Saber would be building the GL, because they only know council so they wouldn't get any techs from it.

well that's the blessing that is the GLib. once you meet the other teams, you get that infamous tech elevator. I've seen somewhere that someone avoided contact somehow and managed to ride a tech elevator to near modern age.

FREE is NW of us and Wotan is thinking Kuningas might be planning a galley ship chain attack w knights. That would be to our N coast.
Babes will be sending Currency any turn and will then start Feud while we go Mono.

How real of threat is this.

They way I see it the C/F axis should already have Chivalry and is likely to already be sitting on a stash of knights.

I'm a bit spooked. But then again it doesn't take much to get me rattled.

BTW, the team is all for an agreement that pits the two of us against each other at the end of time. I hope that that comes to pass.

I really doubt that. knights are expensive. We struggle to get enough MW's to attack Sabre. I don't think they could be that advanced. Of course, it's better to have a good defense in the probable landing area.

map trading is allowed once you can trade maps in the game. Which we have been able to since map making. So no problems there

Here's a pm from JB. I'm pretty concerned about this Glib build becauase iirc they haven't hidden it so Saber knows they're going for it. The good news is they're doing it in a GA so that should give them a little boost relative to Saber. I don't think the cash is nearly as important as turning off research for gold because we'd be doubly screwed if they don't get it. Thoughts?

Just an update on the GLib timing. We'll run out of GA on turn 108 and at the current build rate the lib is set to arrive on 111, IIRC. Anyway, you get the point... it's actually not going to be complete until something on the order of 114. So there's an adjustment to the amount of risk we're looking at to not miss out on it to Sabre.

BTW, since we don't have contact w/ Saber can they see that we're bulding it? I don't think so.

Anyway, if we're researching AND going after the GLib it seems a bit of a waste. If we were to go zero research the gold we're not spending now can be stockpiled and dipped into after the fact to speed up research. However, if we spend the gold and get the lib it's just lost. The obvious thing here is that we're hedging our bets by researching now and not falling behind should we miss the GLib. I'm just not sure those turns can't be made up later w/ stockpiled gold because I don't know if the techs can be completed in 4 turns w/o the assistance of a fat treasury.

Big time thanks for the map. That's almost exactly the setup we suspected was out there. Each shallow water "island" are at least 4 (my bet was 3) tiles apart making a crossing by galley a 50/50 shot. And I see how it's a race to Caravels (Astro) and not Galleons (Nav). That being said, and I don't know Kuningas, I just don't see how the FC Axis (a.k.a. Axis of Dirtbags) would attempt a galley crossing. They could not afford to do it in numbers and if they did I would advocate sending about every ounce of gold we have your way to counter what would have to be a poor and poorly defended continent. Just my $0.02.

I personally think that they should turn off research and rush some libraries. This would still be useful later on and if they do miss the Glib then the new libraries will help them get more research power.

I think that jb is right that if you haven't met another team, then they can't see if you are building any wonders.

Well, if we turn off research we are really depending on the GLib to be built else the time table for an attack on Council is disrupted big time. So do we generate gold from now and until the GLib is hopefully owned by GONG?

I'm a bit concerned about doing that. We'd need to see what Saber is up to in a diplo sesssion to see if we can eek out some information. I don't like the idea of turning off research because of the possibility others are hiding Glib. Glib cost 400 shields and FP costs 300. The question is whether these teams have waited to build the FP? MoM is only 200s iirc so we'd know reasonably fast.

well, what is our strategy if we have no research?

Hope Gong finishes the GL and then wait for contacts? If we decide to do that, it would be good to go for engineering in case Free/Council don't have it. I would suggest we do research while Gong goes for money.
How would they share the monetary benefits then? They still owe us some IIRC...
