Ghandhi (EC) Emperor Cookbook! Let the fun begin.

This thread is a great idea. I'm an experienced player. I'm a quattromaster in the Hall of Fame (thus showing how that can't be that difficulto achieve) but I'm really not very consistent at all at Emperor level and am much more comfortable on Prince and Monarch. My save is nowhere near as good as the others posted so far. I'm looking forward to learning new ways of thinking about tactics and strategies at this level.

Spoiler :
Settled in place. Delhi builds: Worker (T23) => Warrior (T37) => Warrior (T42) => Warrior (T45) => Settler (T55) => Barracks (T62) => Warrior (T64) => Settler (T74) => Warrior (T76) = Worker (T82) => Warrior (T85) => Warrior (T89) => Settler (T99) = Oracle

Research: Hunting (T8), Animal Husbandry (T27), Bronze Working (T48), The Wheel (T58), Masonry (T67), Meditation (T86), Priesthood (T96), Agriculture (

Civics: Slavery (T48)

Settled Bombay near Horses (T59): Builds: Monument (T72) => Worker (T81) => Worker (T91) => Barracks

Settled Vijanagrya near Bronze (T77). Builds Monument (T95) => Axeman

Other:

Here is my take:
Spoiler :

Settled on the plain hill.
Build: War->Work->Work->War->Settle->StoneHerge (with a helping hand from the Indian Lumberjacks. Dont underestimated the power of 4 indians lost in the woods)
Research: BW->Arg->Hunt->AH->Wheel->Pottery->Archery->Writing->Masonry
Stole two workers from Toku and GK in 3200bc, pinded Toku down on the forested hill until he had 5 archers. Rushed a load of chariots just in time to attack on the round he got the copper mined. For some reason Toku had only one archer in the capitol (a nice one) and 3 in Osaka.

Pros:
GK ripped and ready to be taken down. He has iron. 5 axes build, 3 on the way. Could forcewhip 2-4 more
5 cities. Osaka should have been raised and moved one south. Room for 4-5 more cities.
Buddism just spread to Bombay. Will give a little love from Brennus plus happiness and keep him off my back while GK and monty leave the game...
Stoneherge and settled prophet in Delhi.

Cons:
Bad diplomatic relations because of the worker steals and the Toku war
Bad economy at the moment. Should get better with the gems and the cottages in Bombay
Research got mixed up after Archery.

Would it be possible to include a WB save so I can play this at Prince, please?
If there is alredady one, on which page?

Thanks :)

The round is now closed up I need to check which saves are shadows or not and update this page. Falling asleep didnt help. ;)

If a player is comfortable at Emperor or even higher levels we ask them to shadow the game. So they will play the round but not put it up for voting. Its always interesting to see immortal or deity players take on the games to show us how they play the game.

It would defeat the purpose of the cookbook if every round was won by players who played at deity or immortal level. The series was never designed for that.

We will go ahead and vote for 2-3 days. Hopefully finish by Saturday/Sunday or when all that have played have voted. Its not always about voting for the best save but the save that will be most interesting or challenging to play. Anyone that submitted a save is free to vote.

Please rank your top 3 in order.

First place 3 points.
Second place 2 points
Third place. 1 point.

PLEASE NOTE!! To keep voting fair you cant vote for your own save. You are expected to vote for 3 saves and give reasons for your voting. Remember this is a learning game. I would encourage everyone to act within the spirit that the cookbook is intended.

Anyway here are the saves:

Gumbolt

Alejduke

MJG5591

Toranth

Grymloq

Theboot

Kjellea

Great engineer

CH yank

Softnum

CBPE

Joyodongo

Lymond

John Edwards

Maximumpain

Harbour boy

Yakidk

Bobbyboy29 is going away and posted no save. So treating as a shadow.
Negator, Ambro, Fluxx, Soirana and Shuhe played round as shadow so wont be put forward for voting puposes. As ever its interesting to see how people comfortable at emperor play the game.

Voting will end on Sunday 6pm GMT or at the point where everyone from this round has voted or there is a clear winner.

If i have missed anyone out or a save should of been a shadow please let me know. If you think a save is going to be too easy please take this into account when you vote. Would be nice to face a challenge this game.

Wow look at all those saves, I'll get cracking on them tonight and hopefully vote tonight or tomorrow. Glad to see all this particapation.

Certainly a lot of saves to look at. I do hope people dont pick the easy saves. Then again saves where wars have been started could impact on a game later on so it could be interesting.

here goes my vote

1st Yak very strong safe, good tiles, strong military, good science. i feel he chopped to much.

2st Gumbolt not as strong war safe but still good. monty not dead yet and will take some time to kill.

3st joyodongo best peaceful safe 4 nice city and tiles. military is out soon.

1st - Lymond

3rd - Harbour Boy

While I opened and looked at each save before deciding on my three votes, I had not taken the time to include things I payed attention to or any of my thoughts. I very much enjoyed most of the war saves. To the best of my knowledge, they're all very strong games. However, I'm rather biased towards non-warfare games due to the type of settings and play style I usually use. That, combined with Gumbolt's suggestion to look at using a peaceful save for the learning experience, biased my votes.

I liked the saves turned in by Lymond, CBPE and Harbour Boy (amongst several others) because of their flexibility for continued expansion while still in peace.

If this map was set up with the intention of testing the limits diplomacy in an unfavorable position then I'd love to try Maximumpain's save.

A few things, of which there are many more, that I suck at: deficit economies, REX'ing, watching and/or using the power graph, specialist economies, tech trading (see specialist economies), blocking, fog busting (Great Wall!!!), SoD'ing and more.

I think it colud be nice if everyone would spent two words on EACH save, also the ones he is not going to vote...

anyway, everyone has to see all of them, and I think that any advise is welcome seeing that we're here to learn :)

My vote:

1- Yakidk - 1 civ dead. Cities, workers, chariots, axemen, commerce coming...
2- Kjellea - 1 civ dead. Lot of beakers coming from floodplains.
3- Gumbolt - 1 civ almost-dead. Best conquered capital.

1st - Lymond
2nd - CBPE
3rd - Harbour Boy

John, I'd love to read the comments from your votes.

So many games and so many different ways to spend 100 turns. It has been really difficult to choose. I feel like I am one of the judges on MasterChef.

My votes:

1st - CBPE - not too strong and not too weak. No unusual events. Chariots underway.
2nd - MaximumPain - not too strong and not too weak. No unusual events. Chariots underway. Heading for Great Library?
3rd - Toranth - lots of exploring done, solid but not too extreme.

Other comments:
Yak - Really strong position. Too strong for this game. Well done though on an excellent start.
John Edwards - Great progress with Oracle and Code of Laws. Not sure this will always be repeatable in similar situations.
Gumbolt - Great war with Monty. Again, not always repeatable and probably too strong for this game.
Kjellea - well done on killing Khan but too game-breaking for this exercise, in my view.
Softnum - too unfortunate in losing the Settler
TheBoot - 5 cities seems to much for this point in the game. Less ability for us to determine other city placements.
Grymloq - again, great progress, but too strong for this exercise.
Joyodongo - solid start, but not sure what we will do with 7 warriors.

I think we would indeed learn more from a save where we are not dominating too early. yes lets applaud those that did well but take on the more interesting/challenging saves. :)

I agree that might learn more from the not-too-dominant saves, but that's a different approach. I thought we were supposed to vote the best saves (that's what I did). If we don't, which are the criteria to vote one or other save?

I thought Gumbolt's post said he hoped everyone wouldn't just vote for the best saves all the time. We probably should agree what the aim of this exercise is otherwise we will all be at cross-purposes.

I chose the saves that were interesting and solid, but not so uber-powerful that it becomes a cruise.
