I think that Rik is saying that the state shouldn't decide when someone is old enough to do these things and it should be up the parents to decide. I'd agree to a point. The point at which we depart is simply because some parents lack the capability or inclination to pay enough attention to what their children are doing.

Back on topic: At least the baby won't be suffering from a mother who doesn't understand it due to a big age-difference. And the young mother can get a career after bringing up her children and still be young enough to have a succesful one.

and yes the law is on the female side, a few months ago the catholic church in ireland estimated that over 300 boys had been molested in the last 60 years at least. what happened? not a thing. there was no big news spread no outcry. if a girl gets molested its big news. the law is made by how much attention is brought to it and how much there is of a media outcry. thats the way it goes. same goes for political news and anything else you care to think.

No, I don't draw lines and I don't draw age-limits. Not for alcohol consumption, matters of the heart, readiness to vote etc. It is my firm opinion that the state has no business in this.

sorry for the "off-topic' thing, but do you mean to open another thread with 'age-limit' as a topic or there is a special type of thread i wasn't aware of that restricts the view for the under-aged ones? That answer wasn't directed to me, but I don't know what you mean. I am serious.

Well, she doesn't seem to have the type of responsability needed to get a university degree and get a career out of that, maybe other 'type of career' that involves her previous experiences but I doubt that would be good for her baby. Smoking during pregnancy is not a great start, you have to admit.
