Gonna get plastered? Better have a designated shooter.

So, two states (AZ and TN) have passed laws allowing guns in bars, provided that the gun-toter is not drinking.

I love this quote:
The new laws stipulate that armed patrons have to refrain from drinking while in the bars — in effect, creating a new category of customer, the designated shooter.

also...
Not surprisingly, some bar owners in each state have objected to laws that leave it up to them to tell armed customers that they can’t drink. Metromix Phoenix reports: “Scottsdale bar and restaurant owner Les Corieri said he thinks the new law permitting the state’s 137,766 carriers of concealed-weapons permits to bring firearms into bars and restaurants is insane.” According to the video report from News Channel 5 in Nashville embedded below, “Many bar and restaurant owners are already taking steps to prohibit the weapons by using a provision of the law that allows them to post signs saying guns are not allowed.”

usual request/warning for civility, etc....

I canceled my trip to Tennessee...

what in the :rotfl:

I predict what's gonna happen is a bunch of rednecks killing themselves and then the rest will wise up soon enough.

Hey! Suddenly that mirror in front of the bar stool has a purpose again. I hope the bartender has good reflexes.. (or is really hot).

ONLY IN AMERiCA!

If a man in a bar gets plastered with a gun, will his blood be spackled on the wall?

This law is pretty much the perfect representation of quirky American culture: smoking in bars is dangerous and needs to be outlawed, but by golly, packing six shooters is A OK! I love it.

I actually don't think I have that much of a problem with the law, as long as it is only a restraint on state action, and doesn't keep bar owners from setting their own rules. Nevertheless, the irony here is palpable.

I'm pretty sure neither of those states are likely to ban smoking in bars, so it's not a representation at all.

Edit: Okay, maybe Arizona. :crazyeye:

I'm a big supporter of gun rights, but this is just dumb. Alcohol and guns do not mix.

Accidental shooting

On Friday, November 28, 2008, Burress suffered an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound to the right thigh in the New York City nightclub LQ when his Glock pistol, tucked in the waistband of his sweatpants, began sliding down his leg; apparently in reaching for the gun he inadvertently depressed the trigger, causing the gun to fire.
