I plan on going to the library or bookstore soon and I plan on looking for a World War 2 book, preferably 1939-1943. Any suggestions would be great :goodjob:.

EDIT: like fall of France, Invasion of Poland, Battle of Britain

Either Berlin or Stalingrad by Anthony Beevor are good reads. It Never Snows in September is a good read if you've studied the battle of Arnhem from the British perspective since it throws light on the German side of the battle.

Readers Disest done a good one a few years ago. It was kinda the defaultwar book I had when I was frowing up. Easy to read, enough detail etc.

Avoid any that are to nationalistic. I read one and you could have sworn the Australians won the war for the allies. Beevors are excellent but focus on single battles for the most part. Christopher Chant IIRC done some good ones as well.

You can read Churchill's book the Gathering storm

I would not read any written by hitler or the nazis because alot of those books are illegal
like Mein Kamph, do not read that ****

Mein Kampf is not illegal...I saw several copies at Barnes & Nobles not too long ago. It's probably not what the OP or most sane people would consider a "good" book though.

Tried reading it once. Couldn't get into it.

None of it is illegal...

the rise and fall of the 3rd reich is quite good (technically NOT a WW2 book)
another good one i have read
King Rat - very nice "mood novel" for the life of POWs.

Not quite illegal.
copyrights for it will not be in Bavarain goverment hands for long, and will become public domain soon.
it is printed, and availbale for purchase.
that said, why would anyone want to read such a rubbish book?
it is inferior to almost all books ive read (style, readability, etc). i wont even go into the contents [vomit]
trust me when i say you can forgo reading it.
if you want recommendations about faschist books, let me know and ill dig out some recommendations.

The best Eastern Front book(s) I have seen is John Erikson's Road to Stalingrad and Road to Berlin. David Glantz' When Titans Clashed is a fairly good one volume treatment, but a bit short.

It's an historical document. Whether or not it's well-written, let alone correct, it's still the manifesto for one of the most significant political movements of modern history. I may well be wrong, but for anyone making a serious academic study of Nazism, it seems like a fairly essential read.

exactly why i did read it.
but unless you are willing to suffer for your studies, id forgo this one.
agreed, i adds some extra value to nazi studies, but its very hard work reading and making sense of it.
id stick with the well written books on the subject till its decided that one must "grab the bull by the horns" as it were.

on a COMPLETELY different angle id compare it with:
Eldridge Cleaver, Soul On Ice (1968) - quite as racist, just aimed the other way.
HOWEVER - that one is BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN.
if you want to read about where and why the black panthers came from, this IS a MUST READ.
