GOZ3 -(Totally Barbaric)-C3C

Good job. We should set on that 1 tile island west of Pompeii. I say use the leader for an army or a FP.

We are ready to take Germany now. :goodjob: With the choke it should be straightforward.

I haven't looked at the save, but unless building an FP would take too long (>25 turns) thus rushing it with the leader may be worthwhile, build an army no doubt. Note with C3C the location of the FP doesn't seem to be relevant anymore.

EDIT: should we abandon Cirta and move it one tile to the south?

nice :hammer: gozpel! very precise and productive war as usual :) and way to save our GA!

my vote for the leader is an army if we're going to take on someone else soon.

Agree on moving Cirta, we have settlers that can do the job.

And also settle on that island.

Utica is on courthouse atm, so FP can be built there later. Remember, armies will be very useful for us, especially with the lack of gov-change. So I vote army.

Later, I would like to see our Palace somewhere in the English territory, hopefully we'll get more leaders.

Next war will be a better time to trigger the GA.

Next player can take 15 turns if he's up to it, I stole all the fun so we're back to building phase again, I think.

I am greedy sometimes, I hope I'm forgiven :)

Some nice surgery going out there. Amputating Rome from the Romans as well as most of their land and cities greatly improves our health! Dr. Gozpel rules!

IMHO, if the current leader is used to fight corruption, rough estimate shows the highest benefit would be building Forbidden palace in Carthage or L magna without leader coupled with building Palace with the help of the leader in the center of our country (which looks like empire to me). Around Hippo or Nora. May be even Utica but since we are stuck in Despotism, Utica may be too far away. This may give roughly +10-20gpt now and up to 100gpt later in the game plus corresponding shields.

Another IMHO: If the leader is not used to fight corruption, he should go for sword army and we hand-build Heroic Epic ASAP. Since we are stuck with galleys for a long-long time, knight armies can contain no more than 1 unit otherwise we would not be able to transport them overseas. Or we get more places in the galleys because of seafaring trait?

Third IMHO, regarding this, use of leader for Palace move would be better. We'll get another leader in wars with Germany and England. Just need to do some leader-fishing on the choke-point. Put some swords + 10 cats there in a city with rax and wall and declare war. They will come and die. And we get a bunch of leaders.

I'll be unable to play untill Friday night or Saturday morning so if my turn comes up before Thursday night, consider it as an autoskip request. Also, I upgraded to 1.22 (due to PBEM) but keep 1.15 as a mirror install. Do we all upgrade or continue with 1.15?

akots, I think we should all stay with 1.15 until the future of the patch clears out. Who knows what they are gonna do in the next release? Put Radio back in? 1.22 has nothing valuable for SGs. The only bug fix is the railroad which is very minor.

My commendations to the team setting Gozpel up for some, what had to be satisfying, knocking off of Ceasar. Looks like this barbaric lifestyle suits you guys! :D

What barbslinger said!

How often do you get the chance to upgrade 20 swords this early and go on the warpath? The setup couldn't be done better and thank you all. :)

My plan was to go straight for the heart - Veii -> Rome, and without all those warriors we would've missed out. I think Veii had 4 spears, an archer and a warrior in it and Rome sent a horse, an archer and a warrior a turn or two after.

I like the plan of settling the choke and try for leaders, they will be very important for us. And of course we want Heroic Epic.

That's some force. Looks like my 4-5 swords to take veii underestimated it. Compare it to DI3 when France only had 2 reg spears in Paris! Maybe because of the max aggression setting.

I will play tonight and post tomorrow. I will try to do the choke and generate leaders. I will avoid stationing Nubian Mercenarys in the city. But keep some in reserve in case things start going badly.

Also I just started a SG and I am wondering if any one would like to join the post is HERE

microbe, remember Veii was under great culture pressure from Utica and the AI balance that pretty good by having lots of units in town like that.

Sometimes we under-estimate the AI and even if I kenw there would be 3 or 4 units in the city, I was a bit surprised to see 6 plus 3 reinforcements coming soon after.

conehead, lots of swords will do the trick and if you either work to get a city SW of Veii in the marshes or you use a worker to make a colony on the horses, that would be nice too.

Horses are great to get elites and leaders in the akots-plan!

Preturn- I build an army with the leader, take a settler and a NM and send them toward the choke.
IT- We leanrn construction from TGL. Carthage NM->, NM

ok, got it. i will play and post tomorrow.

edit: sorry, forgot to add: nice turns ;) looks like leader fishing officially started April 14th

first, the 50AD save

Preflight check: Find an elite Sword in Coneheadgrad so I launch him at the spear sitting nearby. He wins 4/5 but no leader. I move sword army out of Coneheadgrad towards Rome so we’re ready when the peace ends (9T). Should also attract more heat for Cone. Move some other units around for MP duties. Jungles next to Carthage will need to be cleaned out so that city can increase shield output in the future. I MM some cities to decrease build times (HE from 24T to 19T, harbors, swords a turn or 2 quicker). Switch Hippo over to market vs NM;

IBT: Pompeii riots; hire clown ‘cause I don’t want to raise lux slider for a 2 pop city

T1: 130BC Move some stuff around; decide to send 5 swords down to Hannover to see if they can find trouble (hey, it’s my own town's name so I really couldn’t resist :) ); pop rush a sword in Ravenna to give it some cover (NM was due in 19T).

IBT: Portugal demands 82g, I tell them go pound sand; they declare war on us

T2: 110BC Sign an Alliance vs Portugal with Sumeria for Lit and 95g (they know Mono but no one else has it yet); Sign another alliance with Spain vs Port for 164g. That should teach Portugal to mind their own business; MM Carthage and Leptis Magna with game since Carth will grow with only 1 fpt and can get extra shields from forest.

T3: 90BC Carthage grows to 8 but I don’t MM onto game as I’ll let Leptis grow as well so we get more gold. Plus; HE due in 13 while working the forest. Chop forest near Cone.
Battle of Hannover: Elite sword kills archer (4/5) in the open; vet sword forces horse to retreat from open; vet sword redlines spear in Hannover but dies; vet sword kills redlined spear and we take the town; vet sword kills redlined horse

T4: 70BC Utica courthouse -> market; move some more swords toward Rome, getting ready for their destruction.

T5: 50BC build a worker in Sulcis

T6: 30BC elite sword chases a German warrior; Oea sword -> sword

IBT: 2 German horses show up south of Hannover

T7: 10BC Theveste galley -> galley

IBT: 2 horses attack Hannover, both fail (1 retreats, 1 dead); another horse and warrior show up to the south

T8: 10AD Move some more swords towards Rome.
Battle around Hannover: ¾ Sword kills 1/3 horse but does not promote?; elite sword kills 4/4 warrior (3/5)

IBT: Germans offer peace but no gold so I don’t take it; Around Hannover: Horse retreats from Sword

T9: 30AD Hippo market -> library; Hadr worker -> worker; tell Rome to remove troops or declare, he removes offending galley; Trade with Rome Lit for 44g (empty their coffers), then declare war.
Romans between Rome and Antium: vet sword kills spear and promotes to elite; reg sword kills horse and promotes; reg sword kills archer; army defeats spear (6/13!); vet swords move up to protect army and leaves 1 warrior for elite next turn; hire some clowns to help former Roman towns feel better.

IBT: Sumeria completes Great Wall (this is good since they were the only ones who had Mono); 1 German horse attacks Hannover but dies; 6 spears come out of Antium (3 north, 3 south)

T10: 50AD jungle chops near Carthage have given us 2 addition BG’s so HE due in 4T.
Near Rome: vet sword kills spear; vet sword kills spear; vet sword kills spear; elite sword (3/5) dies to reg warrior (1/3); reg archer kills 1/3 warrior
Near Hannover: vet sword defeats warrior (4/4)

Notes: elite sword is fortified E of Hannover on a hill (due to rundown of a warrior); Leptis Magna is 11T from Palace, please watch carefully. Hopefully, Mono will come in soon but not sure when. It may be best to sign a peace deal with Germany at some point and trade them up to the MA so another tech is available. Settler in place down south and 1T till marsh is cleared.

Attack on Antium hasn’t even started yet and it appears stalled for a turn or 2 due to all those spears that came out, blocking the roads. Purpose of this war with Rome is simply to consolidate the peninsula and leader fish (though the elite died to a warrior  )

9T left on alliances vs Portugal.

workers near Hannover left for next player. Forrest in range if chop desired for Coneheadgrad.

edit: watch the lux slider very carefully. we are on the very edge with happyness right now so any pop increase can be trouble. We need more lux resources and Gems are not far away from Hannover.
