lurker's comment: Well, if the AI is dumb enough to fight each other when they should be directing all efforts to killing you, then good for you, and they're doomed. ;)

Great work recently. :goodjob:

I've got it.

We got Chivalry on my first IT, and with six new knight armies things are going pretty well ;), except that our operations in the Byzantine lands are being slowed by the rough terrain there. Good call on the horsemen, M60. :goodjob: I'll post in about twenty-four hours.

Sorry for the delay. I've played nine and a half turns, but I've run out of time to tidy up the postion, do the report, etc. I'll try to post tomorrow morning.

850 (0): I start some infrastructure builds in our outer-core cities, which we tend to neglect.

No enemy attacks, though I moved the elite pikeman out of New Ur in hope of luring the Korean archers into suicide.

The GLib brings us Chivalry and Theology.

860 (1): We upgrade all twenty-seven horsemen to knights.

We raze Byzantine Heraclea (2-0).

We slay a spearman in Byz Dyrrachium, and a nearby Byz swordsman (4-0).

We eradicate seven enemy archers and a Korean spearman, mostly in the SE, generating a GL and so our twelfth army (12-0).

We found Wilson's Creek and Camp Jackson in the SW.

870 (2): We raze Byz Dyrrachium, held by another two spearmen, and strike down two further Byz units in the vicinity (16-0).

We found Shiloh in the SE.

We load up six [!] knight armies.

In the SE we eliminate three Korean archers, losing an MDI (19-1).

880 (3): The Vikings appear--in fact they take Coimbra from the Ports--and we declare war.

We found Bull Run in the SE and Gaines' Mill in the SW.

We smite one Byz spearman in Chalcedon, and two in Caesarea (22-1).

We slaughter eleven Korean units in the SE, and a Byz swordsman in the SW (34-1).

890 (4): We raze Braga, held by two spearmen, as our new knight armies enter the action (36-1).

We raze Viking Coimbra, held by two swordsmen (38-1).

We raze Caesarea, held by a remaining garrison of a swordsman and a spearman, and sink at least one Dromon (I think four) when we enter the town (41-1).

We raze Chalcedon, held by a single remaining spearman (42-1).

We raze Sardica, held by two spearmen (44-1). We capture a treb.

We overcome a Korean pikeman in Taegu (45-1).

We found Malvern Hill in the central south.

We found Fort Monroe and Fort Sumter, the first two of nine settlements intended to fill the formerly Spanish NW.

We club a Byz swordsman landed next to New Agade (46-1).

In the SE we expunge four Korean units, along with a settler (50-1).

A Viking galley appears off the west coast of the continent, so apparently that's where the Berserker threat will be.

900 (5): In the NW we found Charleston, Norfolk, Yorktown, Williamsburg, and Drewry's Bluff.

We raze Taegu, held by two remaining spearmen (52-1).

Our Byzantine offensive stalls as our armies heal or move through rough terrain.

We raze Emerita, held by two spearmen, and eliminate the "Fledgling Portuguese" (54-1).

We found Fort Henry in the SE.

We auto-raze Paegam, held by two spearmen and an archer, and sink at least one galley in port (58-1).

We found Savage Station in the central south.

We expunge four Korean units in the SE, and a Legion (with settler) in the SW (63-1).

910 (6): We raze the Spanish capital of Jaen (two spearmen; 65-1), and gain 72 gold, but despite these indicators we don't eliminate the Spanish.

We raze Nicaea, held by two spearmen (67-1).

We found Seven Pines in the NW.

We liquidate one Korean pikeman in Pusan (68-1).

We raze Babylonian Telloh, held by two spearmen (70-1).

We dispose of another Byz swordsman landed next to New Agade (71-1).

We expunge four Korean units in the SE, and a Viking horseman and a Bowman in the central south (77-1).

920 (7): A Mongol settler/spear pair appears, and we declare war.

We raze Hyangsan, held by a pikeman and a spearman (79-1).

We annihilate another three Korean spearmen in Pusan, but the town remains garrisoned (82-1).

We found Mechanicsville, completing our settlement of the NW.

We deal with three Korean units in the SE, and three Byz swordsmen in the SW (88-1).

The Vikings land some units--not Berserkers.

930 (8): We finally raze Pusan, held by two last spearmen (90-1).

We raze Byzantine Septum, held by two spearmen and an archer (93-1).

We account for a first spearman in Constantinople (94-1).

We found Fort Donelson and Vicksburg in the SE.

We found Fredericksburg and Antietam in the central south [=CS].

We found Pea Ridge in the SW.

We smash a Viking MDI landed next to New Agade (95-1).

We expunge five enemy units and a settler in the SW, three and a settler in the CS, and four in the SE (107-1). At one point we gain two Leaders/armies in three attacks.

940 (9): We raze the Byz capital of Constantinople, held by just two more spearmen (109-1).

We account for a first spearman in Adrianople (110-1).

We raze Syracuse, held by two spearmen, and eliminate the “Fledgling Romans” (112-1).

We raze Taejon, held by two spearmen and an archer (115-1).

We can see Babylonian stacks of twenty-one and fifteen units, so this is beginning to feel a little more like emperor, though they’re a long way from our cities.

We raze Kaesong, held by a pikeman, a spearman, and an archer (118-1).

We annihilate four enemy units in the SW, one and a settler in the CS, and one and a settler in the SE (124-1).

We’re informed that the French have been wiped out.

950 (10): We raze Adrianople, held by a remaining garrison of two units (126-1),

We pulverize a spearman in Varna (127-1).

We found Jackson in the SE and Murfreesboro in the CS.

We spot gems in the south central jungle, so this is at least a four-luxury continent.

We liquidate a spearman in the Spanish capital of Palma (128-1).

We break thirteen enemy units (mostly Viking MDI) along with a settler in the SW, and three in the SE (144-1), gaining another GL/army.

We disbanded forty-four foreign workers this round to conform to our variant.

Twenty-four elite victories this round generated four Great Leaders.

Our only problem at the moment is that our knight armies are so far ahead of our lines they have to heal slowly in the open. :D The Babylonians and Vikings are showing up with real emperor-sized stacks now, so we may have a little more work to do defensively, but nothing we can’t easily handle.

We have two settlers, outside Antietam and Jackson, in position to move two tiles along roads and then found cities next turn.

We have three understrength knight armies at the moment. The two in the SW are fairly close to the additional knights they need; loading up the one in the SE may take a little longer.

Since the AI has been landing around New Agade, where we have very little strength, the mace army guarding that area should stay there.

We needn’t try to fill in the empty desert behind our lines, unless it seems tactically necessary.

Things have been going so well that we’ve been able to make progress on some infrastructure builds, mostly courthouses in towns at the right level of corruption to benefit from them.

(144-1)

Twenty-four elite victories this round generated four Great Leaders.

 :wow: :faint:

lurker's comment: WOW! You lost just one MDI and killed 144 enemy units! That's quite the kill ratio! And 1-in-6 Elite Victories were great leaders to boot! With luck like this, the AI is doomed.

very well played NP :goodjob:

The front looks awfully huge though. As there are 4 luxes, I expect us to see more enemies. How many do we have at the moment?

Six, although the Spanish are on the brink of elimination, and the Byzantines are probably close. We may be able to finish off the Koreans in the next round, too. That leaves the Babylonians and the Vikings as our serious opponents, while we haven't seen many Mongol units yet.

I should mention that I'm about to start travelling, and I won't be able to play again until March 1. I imagine we'll have a completely won position by then, unless we find the civs on other continents to be shockingly far ahead technologically.

Preturn: Things look good.

960 AD: Raze Karasjok (Viking)
Raze Varna (Byz)
Raze Seoul (Korean)
Palma Razed for 409 gold (Spanish) and Spain Destroyed.

GR20_AD0960.jpg

970 AD: Many Armies Healing
Attack Cheju.

980 AD: Get a Leader for an Army
Cheju Falls.

990 AD: Ebla (new Babylonian city) is auto-destroyed. Attack Smyrna (Byz) and Wonsan (Korean)

1000 AD: Baruun-Urt is Razed (Mongol) Smyrna and Wonsan Razed. Inch'on Razed (Korean)
Rush a few Settlers to (try to) keep up with demand.

1010 AD: Trebizond and Sariwon Razed (Byz). Only 1 more Byz town Visible. Another Leader for another Army.

IBT: We get Invention from 50 turns of research. I am unsure what is up with the AI to not get it within 50 turns. Start Gunpowder.

1020 AD: Initial attack on Naissus. Otherwise moving up or healing armies.
Lots of Jungle is slowing things.

[IBT] We meet England via PP and declare war. We get PP from the GLib.

1030 AD: Naissus is Razed. Byzantines are Destroyed.
Tell Wilaya is Razed (Babylon). Pyongyang attacked. Moved next to other Korean cities.
Meant to do this last turn but I go for Gunpowder at full (90% science) - 7 turns.

GR20_AD1030.jpg

1040 AD: Raze Ulsan, Pyongyang, and Haeju (Korean)
Raze Vadso (Viking). Attacked a Worker which turned out to be German so declared war that way. Check and the Dutch on our list too. Declare war.
Raise Lux to 20% - too many scientists in home cities. Need the 4th and 5th Lux.

IBT: First Landing - single MDI near Pea Ridge.

1050 AD: Bodo Razed (Viking)

Notes:
I used civ assist 2 to determine what cities have less than 90% corruption for determining where to build Courthouses. I figured that 90% was a good cut-off between science farm and unit building it means the courthouse will be a benefit (The first 90% corrupt would also benefit, but I think the shields will be low enough to not be useful).

With PP out we are meeting new civs without meeting them. Keep an eye on diplomacy.

Found a 5th Luxury on our continent! We may have a lot of enemies eventually. I checked and we are playing continents (not pangea). We are on the big one.

Been picking off the Babylon units. There are 25 left that are visible. I think there may be a few more stacks nearby too. Knights have been arriving in that area, plus 3 armies (including the new ones) are there to deal with the threat. Babylons cannot decide where to attack and have been moving back and forth.

I would work toward reaching the 4th and 5th Lux. We are running 20% Lux which can go down to 0% when we reach them. Note the front line in the pictures below puts both lux on our side. Once we set up that front, we will be in a very strong position - it is short compared to our military strength.. Biggest thing slowing us down is the huge distances units need to travel.

Tech has been weird in this game. We completed a 50 turn run on invention. I decided to try to build Leo's because the Wonder chain had broken as far as we could tell. It may be built by someone on the other continent in which case it might work as a prebuild for Mil Trad or some other build.

ok, got it...

I like the idea of trying for Leonardo. :goodjob:

That dense band of jungle must be slowing us down a lot.
