GR27 - AWE Archipelago vs 30 civs

Ya that is true. Up to the next player. If the americans truly only have Archers and Spear it could be a good opportunity for cheap kills.

No barbs so that isn't an alternative in this game at least.

Roster:
Greebley - Just Played
Northern Pike - Away until July 20
markh - Up
ThERat - On Deck
Commando Bob

btw, I could swap with markh again if he is fine with that

With four days having elapsed without a got-it from Mark, I'd say that you should just go ahead, and we'll fit Mark back into the rotation when he reappears.

Up again ? I haven't checked the forums over the weekend. Sorry. I am fine with a swap.

ok, will finish by tomorrow night I think

Ya with NP away and only 5 in the register, the rotation is a lot faster than the other games which had 6 or 7 players.

I think I agree on leader fishing off the Americans if we can do it.

Pre-Turn
MM as some cities are corrupt...also change some to courts

IT we get some bombardment but nth serious
Inca land next to New Skutari, hard to distinguish

1. 1505AD
attack Washington and raze after taking out a mere spear
found replacement

take out 7 units next to Boston
take out 4 Inca units

sent a first convoy east, we could take out Byz Island easily

2. 1510AD
take out 4 units next to Boston, then defeat 2 spears and take New York
defeat 2 spears and Philadelphia is ours...and America is gone

move some scouts south and spot blue borders, presumably the Mayas or maybe the Germans
start shifting 2 caravels south

IT we meet Persia and declare war on them

3. 1515AD
nothing much happens as there are no landings and we only prepare for ours

IT magnetism is in, go for banking at 5 with some surplus so we upgrade those caravels

4. 1520AD
land a stack at Byz Ani
meet the tiny Germans but can not land units as the mountains are occupied

5. 1525AD
drop 6 units in Germany
take out 2 spears and conquer Ani

keep it since it has a harbor and we can upgrade our caravels there
do that with 5 caravels

defeat 2 landed Byz knights

IT our small stack gets attacked and we lose 2 pikes, at l;east the mountains are free from the enemy now
we get the Mil Academy

6. 1530AD
evacuate 4 units from Germany and drop 3 others on a mountain

upgrade more caravels, a convoy will start towards France next turn

IT Germany loses 3 troops against us

7. 1535AD
attack Konigsberg, take out 3 units and gain a leader, we don't take the city yet, though
land an army there

defeat 5 units at New Skutari

8. 1540AD
unit support is increasing heavily again, we need to fight and conquer more

take out 2 units and conquer Konigsberg, move more units inside and drop a 2 sipahi army nearby
take out 1 archer on our soil

move towards France

IT 5 Germans horses die at Konigsberg
we get banking, ToG in 6 at a deficit

9. 1545AD
defeat 5 units at Konigsberg and land another 3 sipahi army
abandon Konigsberg and found a replacement

land a big stack of a sipahi army and more sipahis next to Tours

10. 1550AD
defeat 5 spears in Leipzig, city still stands

our sailors in the west spot the very backwards Aztecs

defeat around 10 units and raze Tours, found replacement

we are making slow progress. We have been getting more workers for the big RR project. I have not seen any Civ to start US, thus we should be fine with going for ToE later on.

We should be able to make more progress in France and wipe out Germany easily.

The situation in the west (you can spot the new western borders on the mini map)
gr271550a.jpg

And France in the east

gr271550b.jpg

IBT : 3 landings at New Skutari

1) 1555AD : just kill the landings.
Kill units in Leipzig, but the city still stands
kill units in France on the way to Orleans

IBT : a horseman almost kills an almost full health knight army in Germany

the Mayas land a knight at New Skutari

2) 1560AD : kill that knight

gain a leader attacking Leipzig

Finally take Leipzig, build an army and abandon the city. Found a new city at home.

IBT : two new landed knights at New Skutari

3) 1565AD : clear the landings

take Orleans

IBT : we get landings in several places

The French try to get back Orleans and suicide a lot of chariots

4) 1570AD : get another leader in Germany

IBT : we lose one musket in Orleans

a new landing at New Skutari

We enter the Industrial Age and get Nationalism as our free tech

5) 1575AD : begin to clear stacks at Orleans promoting several sipahis to elite

take Berlin, form an army and abandon the city, found a city at home

clear the landing

I will not manage to play more than these 5 in the next days, so I hand it over to Greebley. We have two empty armies in Germany. One can be filled next turn. In France I have stationed troops in Orleans. Joannie suicides her units on that city and we are promoting our sipahis as we attack. We are currently shipping around the Aztec island. They are as backward as Germany and France, but it seems to be a litle bigger island.

Lurker comment:
Great game so far. Very interesting read. Is your victory condition conquest? or is Domination acceptable? (Sorry if that has already been posted, I didn't remember reading it and it isn't in the first post.)

On these large games domination can be difficult and cumbersome - although doable. The problem is that unless the cities are placed further apart, you hit the 512 max city limit before domination.

For that reason we pretty much always go for conquest.

Edit: Also we tend to reach the modern age so size 1 islands aren't a big deal.

It is an unusual AW game now as since we conquered our island it is more worker management than real warmongering. Most of the time you are managing workers than your attacking forces.

I've got it, but won't be able to play until the weekend.

Plans
...We have two empty armies in Germany. One can be filled next turn. In France I have stationed troops in Orleans. Joannie suicides her units on that city and we are promoting our sipahis as we attack. We are currently shipping around the Aztec island. They are as backward as Germany and France, but it seems to be a litle bigger island.

Around Orleans are many French units, Archers, Chariots and Spears. The French units are evenly divided into those three groups. We have 27 units inside Orleans and no flip risk. Looks like we let the French attack us for a turn or two, die to Muskets and Sipahis and then we begin to advance.

We don't see any German towns, so we'll explore with Yank02 (Caravel). Germany has a natural choke point, a one tile mountain, which currently is not garrisoned. German forces are Archers, Spears and Horses.

We'll continue to scout the Aztec coast with Yank03 (Caravel).

'Too many cities' is still true.

I might have time to play later this evening.

Gents, I'm going to ask for a skip. I thought I could squeeze in some time in the evenings, but we've been busy packing up Grandma's things, and Civ-time just hasn't happened.

Just so you know, my mother-in-law died during my last turnset, shortly after I posted my save. Things are sorta wild here as we get ready for an estate sale and prepare to sell the house. And deal with my wife's siblings, who are upset with how their mother managed/didn't manage her affairs and are really fuming over how she left everything to my wife, even though we had lived with Grandma for the past 15 years.

I think I'm in my own AW game with Real Life!

Wow, sorry to hear that. Life is war, isn't it?
