GRAND OPENING: CivFanatics File Database

ghoul had posted an aaglo unit...? That must have been a freudian slip. Sor someone is cracking the system...
It's more funny when you also take the file description into account.. "Here is a poor soul... " :D

Also, you seem to be quoting some member called quote?
Who's he/she ;)
oops, fixed.

Yeah... well, maybe it wasn't such a big mistake afterall  (altough to be even more accurate, it should've said "Here is a poor enslaved soul...") :mischief:

EDIT: Oh, by the way, why the IMG-tags don't work for me in the database ('cos for you - Thunderfall - they seem to be working just fine...)

Really? That's weird. Can you show me an example?

The images are working again. Just one of those things, I suppose.

Two more points, though. First, I may be missing something, but I don't see a way to add a preview image when first adding a file. I've had to go back and edit my files in order to add a preview image.

Second, I think you need some more "Misc" categories. I've got a plague animation, which presumably should go somewhere in the Civ III graphics modpacks section, but it doesn't fit any of the categories in there.

I made a Other Graphics category for Civ4 but forgot to make one for Civ3. The "Civ3 - Other Graphics" category is created now.

Can't do much about having to add the preview image later at this time. I guess it's kinda like the poll creation thing in which you make the poll after the thread is created...

Sure. Here
http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=395

The animation preview there has the img-tags around it (I suppose you can edit that file so you can see for yourself if I made some silly error there...).
It's working as designed. The forum doesn't allow URLs within image tags to contain symbols like & ? for security reason. This rule applies to me too.

The images I included in some files using image tag are hosted on the .net or imageshack server and the URLs don't contain those symbols. So if your animation images are not forum attachments, you can use img tag to include those in the description.

Oh, okay. So, forum attachements won't show as images then... Right. :)

Oh, and sorry that we mortals just keep on littering this thread with mundane questions... that's just the way we all were built ;)

I see the number of downloads is now equal to the number of downloads shown on 3Ddownloads.
It's much more accurate this way. :goodjob:

Thanks, Thunderfall.

Actually this isn't the case with mine - 501 downloads according to 3D Downloads, but 7 according to the File Database! Maybe it takes a bit of time to synchronise.

Yet another suggestion, I'm afraid: why not make the Grades visible in the browsing screens, rather than just in the file's own page? You can sort them according to rating, so it seems a little odd that you can't see the ratings.

It's because there is no synchronization at all between the two systems. Of course, if you add your file to 3DD around the same time you add the file to the File DB, and you link to the file entry in your forum post, then the two numbers should be about the same.

I'll see what I can do. :)

On my test forum, I managed to make it show forum style rating stars on the file listing page! On the file details page, I can also replace the grade with the familiar stars using similar method (although people still vote using A to F). :)

EDIT: Added the stars to the live file DB. :)

I like that it now has a DL counter. I see my program is in their. Hmm, I'm 67 DL behinds ainwoods.

A lot of units will have to be uploaded, and with some of the biggest unit makers gone.....

Not uploaded... just added. :) You can link to existing file location and provide the file size, w/o re-uploading.

Don't you have lots of free time, MarineCorps? ;)

Like Kinboat, Kryten, Embryodead, Kindred, Ripptide... and propably many others.. :)

I'm starting on RT now. Get one of the giant ones out of the way.

Whoops. Put a couple in the wrong section. Gonna take some getting used to.

I suppose I could add some of units from makers that aren't around...
Thanks MarineCorps.

It's a huge task to add the existing files to the new system, so we could use all the help we could get (especially for files whose authors are inactive). :) If it helps, I could even add incentives like more PM storage space and bigger avatars for people who help add the files. ;)

I just hope no one is releasing new files the old ways w/o using the new system. That would unnecessarily create more work. :aargh:
