GRAND OPENING: CivFanatics File Database

When browsing either My Files in the FDB, or Files listed in a member profile, would it be possible to see the file category there also (wether the file is for civ4, civ3, civ2 or something like that)?

I don't know why, but even if I type a file size, it tells me "Unknown size".
Make sure you don't have any spaces or commas in there (like 1,334,258), it should just be one long number (i.e. 1334258). I'm not even sure it'll recognize decimal points so when taking the values from google I drop anything after it.

Hooray! Civ2 is here! I will definitely use this database to download files now. Many thanks to the powerful Thunderfall.

I didn't read the whole thread so, sorry if it was mentioned before.

"Slow down! You are trying to dl files to quickly."
:hmm: What's up with that ?

And also, i think the download counter counts even if you don't download the file.
I was testing the new link to my mod and i think it counted my click kuz i doubt in the 30 seconds from adding the link to my post till i actually clicked on the link, someone dl my mod. :hmm:

And another thing, is there any way to change the "Description" ?
I forgot to put a link to the thread of the mod. So i added it as the first comment instead.

But where are my manners... :D
Congrats with this whole database thing. :goodjob: It's a very nice surprise. :)

Can we have a Civ4 category for accessories? I have a handful of heads and plan on creating helmets, beards, ect to be added to existing units via the nifviewer. I know Rabbit has a ton of weapons and I don't know if they should go in the Units category or not. Thanks.
Good idea. It's added. :)

Another question. I added a Civ4 improvement under Other graphics. Are there going to be enough improvements to warrant a new category or is Other good enough?
City improvements? They should go under Buildings.

I will look into that.. cold be possible just by editing the templates.

It's a measure added to protect against mass download using automated programs I think.

You can edit the file info by going into the file details page for the file. There is an edit link next to the big download link.

I thought that button was for editing the link or smthing. :cringe:

Thanx

Ok, I tried to upload a unit by an author that no longer visits (the Renaissance Assassin by Kindred72) and it says in my profile that it's one of my files. Can you fix this, TF, for members that no longer visit? Also, maybe it would be a nice idea to seperate land units from sea units, so instead of just "Medieval Units" it could be seperated into "Medieval Sea Units" and "Medieval Land Units". This would make it much easier for people to find what they are looking for, :). Thanks again for doing the database thing!

Okay, so tile improvements go with buildings. Is it easy to switch which category I selected prior?

BTW, we have the category "Civ3 Renaissance Scenarios". I thought I'd point it out, as maybe TF (being probably a Civ4 addict :goodjob:) might have forgotten that there is no Renaissance era in Civ3, and there are only Ancient, Medieval, Industrial and Modern. Though this category might be there on purpose.

@Rabbit, White: I tried first without any spaces or commas, then with commas, and it still didn't work! I'll try again, though I am sure I did try without commas.

The way it works now is fine. The uploader can control/edit the file he uploaded, not the author. This is because the author field doesn't need to be a forum user name (ex. Firaxis Games, Microprose), while the uploader must be a member. I can change a file's uploader easily. If Kindred72 becomes active again, I can assign his files back to him easily. So don't let this prevent you from adding files created by inactive modders.

About unit types, I think the current unit categories are fine. It's not necessary to further classify units as land, naval, or air units within each era since you can see the unit types at a glance by looking at the thumbnails.

No, tile improvements should be uploaded under terrain graphics, since they change the look of the terrain. : The buildings category is for city improvements (doesn't include wonders). I have renamed it to City Improvements. You can change the category by editing the file. It's next to the big download link.

It has nothing to do with the Civ3 in-game eras. :) If you look at the category description, it's based on years. So Civ3 Renaissance Scenarios is for scenarios about events from 1492 AD - 1700 AD. There is a Civ3 Renaissance Units cat too.

What is the file extension of the file you try to upload?

The current allowed extensions are: jpg jpeg jpg2 gif png

If your file extension is something like JPG, try changing it to lower case to see if it helps.

Nice!

Although I agree with Aaglo that people with many creations and/or not online much might not bother to put their creations in due to the sheer number of them.

Since the uploader can specify the file author, it's not a problem for people to help out uploading files created by inactive modders. :)

For modders with lots of files, I would say add them gradually. You don't need to add them all at once.
