Great Merchant Elimination Thread

Giovanni de' Medici - 32 = 31 + 1 I'm going to give Medici a slight bump over Rockefeller. Medici comes early and gives a nice oomph to your economy and has some uses for culture whereas sometimes you just don't need oil for your victory. This really is pretty close in my opinion.
Adam Smith - 68
John Spillsbury - 2 = 5 - 3 I'm giving the edge to Lauder. They're both very close in usefulness though. Spillsbury comes earlier but Lauder has 6 vs 4 amenities and has an extra copy to give you some trading power.
John D. Rockefeller - 28
Estée Lauder - 9

Giovanni de' Medici - 32
Adam Smith - 68+1=69 - Let's get him to 70 points!
John Spillsbury - 2
John D. Rockefeller - 28
Estée Lauder - 9-3=6 - In my opinion, she should go before Spillsbury.

Giovanni de' Medici - 32
Adam Smith - 69+1=70 - ok done
John Spillsbury - 2
John D. Rockefeller - 28
Estée Lauder - 6-3=3 - ok ,now the next one gets to settle Lauder vs Spillsbury !

Thanx for making the call. I'll go next then.

Giovanni de' Medici - 32
Adam Smith - 70
John D. Rockefeller - 30 (29+1) Combines two quite powerful bonuses.
Estée Lauder - 0 (3-3) ELIMINATED. The weakest of the remaining.

Thanx for making the call. I'll go next then.

Giovanni de' Medici - 32-3=29 - Great bonus, but you use it - and it's gone.
Adam Smith - 70+1=71 - This is getting crazy.
John D. Rockefeller - 30

Giovanni de' Medici - 30 = 29 + 1 - Rather than bumping Adam even higher, I'm concentrating on the battle for 2nd best. I think the bank is a nice boost, which does keep giving for the rest of the game. The great work slots at a minimum are the only non-palace receptacle for music until late game.
Adam Smith - 71 -
John D. Rockefeller - 27 = 30 - 3 - While oil can be hard to get, I usually own most of the world by this time in my games. I don't play peacefully and early conquests are a steamroll to most victory conditions. Perhaps John would edge out Giovanni on large or huge maps or maps with extra AI players.

Giovanni de' Medici - 30 - 3 = 27 (I rarely end up actually using the bank slots so I prefer JDR and his early oil)
Adam Smith - 71 +1 = 72 (Let's just get this over with so we can move on to a more competitive elimination thread)
John D. Rockefeller - 27

Giovanni de' Medici - 27 +1 = 28
Adam Smith - 72
John D. Rockefeller - 27 - 3 = 24

I'm really not voting out of a true conviction here. I feel I'd prefer having giovanni to johnny , yet I could very well think (and then vote) the other way tomorrow.

Giovanni de' Medici - 25 (28-3) - As much as I like Giovanni, and I think he's a worthy #3, I think Rockefeller is the stronger and less situational of the two.
Adam Smith - 72
John D. Rockefeller - 25 (24+1) - As stated above.

Giovanni de' Medici - 22-3=19 - Great bonus, but someone has to go, and Rockefeller is better.
Adam Smith - 72+1=73 - Can we get him to 75 points?
John D. Rockefeller - 26

Giovanni de' Medici - 20 = 19 + 1 - Still my preference, even if just slightly over the Rock
Adam Smith - 73 -
John D. Rockefeller - 23 = 26 - 3 - Same stuff as before... just a battle for 2nd place

Giovanni de' Medici - 20 - 3 = 17 (JDR is better although I'm always glad when Medici shows up too. I always have a use for oil and his extra gold on trade routes gives him the edge)
Adam Smith - 73 + 1 = 74 (It's hard to compete with an extra policy slot)
John D. Rockefeller - 23

Giovanni de' Medici - 11 (14-3) - Let's get this settled quickly.
Adam Smith - 74
John D. Rockefeller - 25 (24+1) - Second best for all-round usefulnes, good timing and potential great value.

Giovanni de' Medici - 11-3=8 - ...
Adam Smith - 74+1=75 - ...
John D. Rockefeller - 25

Giovanni de' Medici - 9 = 8 + 1 Still my vote for number 2! Don't turn you musicians into explorers
Adam Smith - 75
John D. Rockefeller - 22 = 25 - 3 Someone has to be downvoted and it isn't going to be Adam.
