Great People Female Versions

If you want to try again, i would suggest putting the head-band deeper in her face, so that you see less skin, and it doesn't look like it could be the hair.

i'm using the beardy one, reminds me of my ex - wife

Loving the two units so far. The modern scientist and the ancient spy is exactly what I imagined when clicking this thread.

As for suggestions and inspiration I might lend a small hand:

Female modern great artist
Seeing as how the male version is essentially Elvis, I don't think it would matter if we draw some person-specific resemblance to a great female artist. And who better than Marilyn Monroe? Blonde wavy hair, ruby red lipstick, and the obligatory white dress.
Finding pictures examples of this isn't hard, just do an image search for marilyn monroe dress and there's plenty of examples. The specific white dress she's often remembered for comes from the "subway grate" scene in the movie classic The Seven Year Itch (1955). Hah! If you could make the dress blow up when you activate her for a Golden Age, that'd be hilarious and quite an homage.

Female ancient great artist
If we look at the male version, his clothes is vibrant, has a feather in his hat and is probably wearing trinkets and baubles. For this one I keep thinking along the lines of instrument playing minstrels or bards, but in truth it could be any form of artist. I'm not quite sure which keywords I'd use to find some image examples though, maybe something from phantasy drawings and sketches.

Female great prophet
I was thinking something along the lines of nuns, but that's probably too religion specific.

Female modern great general
My idea would be a cross between Angeline Jolie's character in Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow and Gemma Atkinson's character from Red Alert 3 (The british one). See attached images.

My quick searches didn't provide an image showing her entire uniform with pants aswell, but I'm sure you can find some movie stills.

Maybe you should put a longer skirt on this last one though, I'd hate to see my Modern Armor suddenly veer off to the side because the crew are busy staring at their general behind them :groucho:

Keep up the good work.

Glad to hear that. :)

Sounds good. Only problem is that I lack the skill to change the animations. I'll have to go with what animations are given by the original units. However, this doesn't mean that I must use the elvis animation for the modern artist, any great people animation should be usable. I'll have to see if one of the other ones might be possible for this.

Adding an instrument might be difficult, I'll have to try. My idea at the moment for the female ancient artist is a painter, using the ancient engineer animation. But that's just an idea for now. The choice of clothing should be the similar anyhow I guess.

Female great prophet

Exactly my thoughts. Haven't come to another conclusion yet, but I still have many other units to make before I have to start with the prophet. ;)

 Maybe I should have given Red Alert 3 a go after all. Definitely a good starting point for a modern general. :)

Thanks, I'll try. Keep on the good suggestions. :goodjob:

Oh, and get her to button up that top too. I'm certain that no senior officer that wanted to be taken seriously would show that much cleavage.

I'd say the best way to do her uniform would be to have a uniform with absolutely no cut down the front of the shirt (you know, aside from buttons and the like, which should be fastened all the way to the top). I mean, let's face it guys, when we can see the girl's cleavage, it's hard not to stare.

A miniskirt wouldn't be a bad idea though. Not the most practical outfit though, slacks might be a more practical consideration. Either way, same colour for the lower half of her uniform as for the top half.

Oh, and I love your idea for the ancient female great artist being a painter. Though maybe you could have a purple dress wearing actress as the modern artist? More Broadway than Hollywood...but that's just my suggestion, feel free to take it or leave it.

I'd love to see what you do with all this, might even use it myself. :D

Oh, and I fervently hope I haven't alienated any of the female posters on this board. THAT IS ALL!

I guess a combination of Gemma Atkinson and Tessa from Full Metal Panic should do the trick:

Of course with the resulting modern general being a bit less anime-like.
I know I should give at least some of my female units trousers, but I just love letting them show some leg. :mischief:

Thanks, I'll see what works when I finally get there.

Hi there,
Your Scientist unit would be perfect for the Brilliant Biochemist in my scifi mod of Civ4Colonization, but I keep getting a crash with no error message when displaying her, even after I tried adding all the other files from the Civ4 Ancient Scientist folder. Does the unit make use of any other Civ4 art files I could try to add when loading in Colonization? (I've had problems like this when importing units to Col; often it turns out there's a shared art file it needs from Civ, and it works fine after moving that over.)

Hm, I have only modded in Civ4 so far, so I don't really know where problems might occure when units are imported somewhere else. All necessary art files should be part of the download. Maybe there is a problem with the scientist highlight. That one is a child of the BIP NiNode. Also the great people effects might cause problems I guess.

Where exactly do I install these? I can't them to showup, at least not in excisting saves. They should replace the old ones, right? and show up in the Sevopedia from the BUG/BULL mod?

The units can be used as whatever you like, but of course their main purpose is to replace the old units. Have you some experience with modifying the xml-files? These tutorials explain how to install new units:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=139721
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=176460
Of course if you only want to replace the unit's appearance the only new entry you'll have to make is the one in the CIV4ArtDefines_Unit.xml. The second file you'll need to change is the CIV4UnitInfos.xml, but in this file you'll only need to replace the ArtDefineTags with the CIV4ArtDefines_Unit you've made.
Hope this helps.

I just love your units, Saibotleih. Wish I could do own units too.

I am going to use the female spy and the Amazon Swordslady too, for sure.

Thanks, I'm glad to hear that. Making these units isn't very hard in fact, it just takes some time to get to know how it is done best. A few months ago I had no clue about these things, too, but the tutorials from this forum really help a lot. Basic knowledge about NifSkope and Blender can be learnt in a good days work, the rest is playing around and trial and error. I started with removing the backpack and the glasses from the modern spy unit, then I modified her clothing a bit and in the end even added bunny ears. :mischief: Somehow this fixated me on modeling female units I guess.
So, give unit modelling a try if you want. It's not that hard, rather time-consuming, and can be quite rewarding. ;)

Yeah. I have Blender and NifSkope and all the required plug-ins too. I downloaded them at some point when I was going to make weapons for Oblivion. That came to naught, though, as Blender still doesn't want to import Nif's. I've written about it on a number of Blender forums, so I'll get help with it soon, I hope. Then I'll be making units.

There's a market for female units, you know. Vanilla Civ didn't supply us with too many ladies (an excellent modern spy though with good animations). So you have your work cut out. Units portraying Lara Croft or such characters would possibly become popular. As a hint.

:D

Well, first I'll have to finish the replacements, than I can think about additions. ;)
Making a unit that looks like Lara Croft should be quite easy (just reskinning a spy model), but making her act like Lara would take a new set of animations I think. I'm not that skilled yet, but who knows... :mischief:

Yeah! Nice! That Early Engineer does look Fairy Tale, if you catch my drift. Good work, as always, SaibotLieh (See, I got your name right!). :)

If I could make a suggestion here; I think if you had a bit more variety (like for whatever your next one would be, if you made them Latin-American, African or Asian or something) you will get a lot more DLs. I say this because they are both female and would be for a culture (in civ that is) that doesn't normally get a unit for it. So you'd be killing two birds with one stone. Awesome work though, I've liked everything you have made, your work will definitely show up in my mod. :goodjob:
