...er... how could anyone think that internment camps are a great idea?

He wasn't saying they were a 'bad idea,' but that they never had any benefits whatsoever.

Tankies think the gulag was a great idea. I admit to having some sympathy for the idea myself, I would certainly love to watch certain members of the Trump administration try to survive in the gulag system.

I admit to having some sympathy for the idea [of gulags] myself

If I were a lesser person this would already be quoted in my signature.

The United States maintains a prison system today that's different from the gulag only in degree. Many millions of Republicans believe that prison system should be more like the gulag than it is now.

Many Arabs wish death for me and my people, but you don't see me arguing to nuke them out of existence.

And you don't see me arguing to put Trump people in gulags either. I just make dumb comments about it as a form of emotional release.

Where is your evidence that tweet is meant as anything but serious?

It seems like a riff on the fact that Palestinian nationalists seem to value their cause over their actual welfare and the welfare of Palestinians in general. If I was running, say, a racially divided prison, my comments about what to do about the black people wouldn't apply to black people in general. It means 'these black people.'

Here he is talking about it.

Does Ben Shapiro have a history of denouncing Israeli settlements and racism the way I have a history of denouncing actual gulags, the people who build and run them, and the people who think they're a good idea?

Unfortunately no, he does not agree that the "extremely racist" Israeli towns covering about 1% of the West Bank deserve condemnation.

Then I guess your analogy was pretty stupid, huh?

Well, your ignoring my use of overt sarcasm in saying 'extremely racist' sure isn't smart.

EDIT: I feel like making this thread into another Israel-Palestine showdown isn't the most productive use of our time.

I'm not ignoring your sarcasm. I'm saying that the thing you claimed Ben Shapiro said as a joke is fairly obviously not really much of a joke and is largely in keeping with the rest of Ben Shapiro's views anyway.

Also since ben shapiro is a public figure his 'jokes' can be held to a higher standard than lexicus' - plus he should know, as a public figure.

Moderator Action: You'd be quite right. Please return to great quotes. Thank you.

"Lenin was a mass-murdering ******* who brutally oppressed the working class. He'd be right at home in today's Republican Party."

-Lexicus

"Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter."
-Vladimir Lenin, speech to the James 5:1-5, New International Version of the Bible

"The obvious types of American fascists are dealt with on the air and in the press. These demagogues and stooges are fronts for others. Dangerous as these people may be, they are not so significant as thousands of other people who have never been mentioned. ... The dangerous American fascist is the man who wants to do in the United States in an American way what Hitler did in Germany in a Prussian way. The American fascist would prefer not to use violence. His method is to poison the channels of public information. With a fascist the problem is never how best to present the truth to the public but how best to use the news to deceive the public into giving the fascist and his group more money or more power.
...
American fascism will not be really dangerous until there is a purposeful coalition among the cartelists, the deliberate poisoners of public information, and those who stand for the K.K.K. type of demagoguery.
...
The American fascists are most easily recognized by their deliberate perversion of truth and fact. Their newspapers and propaganda carefully cultivate every fissure of disunity, every crack in the common front against fascism. They use every opportunity to impugn democracy. They use isolationism as a slogan to conceal their own selfish imperialism. ... They claim to be super-patriots, but they would destroy every liberty guaranteed by the Constitution. They demand free enterprise, but are the spokesmen for monopoly and vested interest. Their final objective toward which all their deceit is directed is to capture political power so that, using the power of the state and the power of the market simultaneously, they may keep the common man in eternal subjection."

— Excerpts from "The Danger of American Fascism", Henry A. Wallace, 1944

"As a doctor, I should be able to tell you what causes diarrhea. However, viewer, it is one of the greatest mysteries...in the scientific world."

-Dr. Steve Brule (John C. Reilly), Tim and Eric Awesome Show: Great Job!

Shapiro is another tv/web personality, and all-around ridiculous (also very racist) person. Sign of the times that such are taken seriously as political commentators.
