Group hoping to erect 'God Loves Gays' billboard rejected by Utah's billboard companies

(KUTV) A group hoping to erect a billboard with a message they say is one of love has been told "no thanks" by Utah's major billboard companies.

An internet artist who calls himself "God" has been attempting to put up billboards nationwide that read, "God Loves Gays." Using an Indiegogo, "God" has raised nearly $100,000 and has already put up a billboard in Topeka, Kansas, the home of the infamous Westboro Baptist Church.

Mark Lawrence of Restoring our Humanity, and one of the key players behind Utah's groundbreaking same-sex marriage lawsuit, contacted the artist behind the campaign and suggested building a billboard in Salt Lake City.

Lawrence says he has been working to get the signs put up ever since.

I think this billboard would be trolling, and a bad idea. Not that i doubt there are other trolling billboards around, but is seems to me to be akin to someone having a posted message along the lines of "Powerful inter-galactic alien empire supports x minority".

But you can have your say too, by posting whatever.. :)

The proposed billboard is in display in the urlx

God hates fags. This, too, is well known by Christians all around the world.

Complex fellow. This God.

Where's Todd gone, when you need him? That dung-faced great twit.

I have seen a few of these in the US. I like them. My favorites include;
"Don't make Me come down There." -God
and
"Stop by My Place with the Kids before the Game on Sunday." -God

Why is it trolling? It is well known by Christians all around the world that God loves all.

Maybe I have that wrong?

You have it right, but a lot of Christians have it wrong.

Those companies are clearly violating this man's religious freedomes!!

He loves the sinners so much that he kills them because it was more convenient then actually doing something about sin itself. I frankly expect more from a deity then that.

On topic; considering all the offensive billboards I have seen pictures of from the US I can't see any reason why this one is a problem.

I can only presume it's a problem because the billboard companies think they'll lose future business if they go ahead with this one.

It's a case of what they think their target customers will think.

Vandalism.

The cost of redoing the signage is usually included in the contract but if there is damage to the billboard itself (lighting, supporting structure) that is generally a cost to the company, so they don't like putting up potential vandalism targets.

Fair bet the cops are in the pocket of the 'Godly' people, so if someone went out with a chainsaw and cut down their billboard the investigation would be half hearted at best.

the flood, world in seven days, if God wanted billboards surely he would have put some up...
clearly they are an abomination to him.

Billboard companies: causing visual pollution wherever you look. Especially alongside highways, where you might be better served by keeping your eyes on the road.

/prissy rant

I think Ziggy's post just firmed up my preexisting belief that billboards in general should be banned.

They are a nuisance. And if they were just banned totally, those wanting to advertise would be on a level playing field. And obliged to peddle their wares by other means.

Billboard companies might not be happy, though.

Designer labels really annoy me, too. Well, all kinds of labelling. Brand marks on motor cars, for instance. A few people go to great lengths to remove them. But I'm too lazy for that.

Can one hate without sinning?

Not if your hate is directed at the person themselves, no.

But I don't think hating ice-cream can be considered sinful.

Still, what's all this concentration on sin all about anyway? I'm not comfortable with it.

Wasn't it originally more about a sense of debt?

Would you say the following quote indicates hate?

God said:
"I have wiped out many nations, devastating their fortress walls and towers. Their cities are now deserted; their streets are in silent ruin. There are no survivors to even tell what happened. I thought, 'Surely they will have reverence for me now! Surely they will listen to my warnings, so I won't need to strike again.' But no; however much I punish them, they continue their evil practices from dawn till dusk and dusk till dawn." So now the LORD says: "Be patient; the time is coming soon when I will stand up and accuse these evil nations. For it is my decision to gather together the kingdoms of the earth and pour out my fiercest anger and fury on them. All the earth will be devoured by the fire of my jealousy. (Zephaniah 3:6-10 NLT)

because it sure does to me.

With that in mind, it seems that God wouldn't be sinful.. so hate can't be a sin.. but it sure seems like it should be..

Yeah. Looks like that individual has anger-management issues to me.

That's the OT for you.

I'm not sure it's a true representation of the real Todd, though. (In all his dung-faced magnificence.)
