How to guess the map:

1. Someone posts a map, and you try to guess what the map's supposed to represent
2. Person who guesses correctly gets to post the next map guessed on, or they can declare open floor, and then the thread is left dormant for several months it's first come first serve to post the next map
3. The longer time it takes, the more and "better" hints the person who posts should give
4. Map should be reposted at the top of every page. A default page is 20 posts long

If you're making a map and need guides on all the island countries in the Caribbean Sea and the Indian and Pacific Oceans, here you go:

Here's the blank maps put in every thread, copy-pasted from last thread:

Guess the Map 11: New map at least once per year

new map is this, brought to you by me:

Clues:
-The map is focused on South America, which is why all of it is blue.
-Green is one category, yellow is another. Green can include yellow, but yellow cannot include green.
-Red is neither category.
-Grey is not Unknown, but it is N/A.

Not language
Not politics
Not religion
Not eating utensils

Hmmm. Individual countries vs a whole continent. Don't mind me. Just thinking out loud.

Ireland being split has to be a clue.

I look at this map, and it doesn't make sense .
EU not a thing, differences DE/Austria, differences DK/Scandinavia, differences China/HK/Macau :dunno:.

Is it intentional that Greenland does not have the same colour as Denmark?

Is it.... uh... military related?

Northern Ireland is only green because it's a part of the UK as a whole, otherwise it'd be red

Is this about SA immigration/emigration of some kind?

it's related to this, but not about immigration specifically

It is intentional that Greenland is a different colour, yes

no military involved here

Afaik the main euro-pool in Argentina are italians, followed by germanics (helped by germans emigrating there after ww2 cause they were nazis :) ). Brazil would have more portuguese as emigrants, I'd suspect. Maybe it is the other way round, ie people from south America x to other places.
Turkey is on the map, so it should be something lowly, eg football :p
Nigeria produces a lot of footballers, so maybe tie to clubs in some way? Yellow= county sends footballers to south american clubs, green= the other way round.
Denmark... who cares really :dunno: Yellow may be they only import coaches. Anyway, worth a shot though probably wrong...

Where South Americans go for work or vacation?

Countries with airlines offering direct flights to South America?

close enough, it's countries with direct flights to south america

green countries have passenger and possibly cargo flights
yellow countries have cargo flights only
red countries don't have direct flights
grey countries don't have airports with regularly scheduled flights

But they are all used for footballers :)

I'm surprised there aren't direct flights from Singapore.

I think darker means worse.

I first thought oil, but maybe something else natural resources related? Mining?

So I can fly from Ethiopia to SA, but not from Austria or Belgium o_O? That is odd.
(well, okay, Belgium makes a bit sense, since multiple major air ports are around, but Brussels is also the European capital, so...nah, still not convinced)

Could be imported oil/gas per capita. US is a major producer, but also imports.
But it wouldn't explain Sweden or some other countries.

Probably an important hint is Syria being gray (which I suppose means western sahara/NA). So is south Sudan and that colony in south America.

something to do with diplomatic missions?

Something I should have recognized! A Sao Paulo native I knew here complained she had to fly to the U.S. for transfers every time she visited family back in Brazil.

this is the itenerary for the cheapest return flight I found from Osaka to São Paulo, at R$7034 or ¥133192:

might be because addis ababa has connections to east asia and brussels airport is overshadowed by amsterdam schipol

plus the map I made has an error - south africa should be green - which I didn't catch because the wikipedia page for são paulo international airport doesn't list johannesburg even though it should
