Damn you, seems this map was too easy.
The map shows the number of laboratories at biosafety level 4, which is the highest biosafety level, reserved for Ebola and the likes. Covid is only level 3, so this map doesn't directly relate to it.

Philippines and Singapore are apparently each building one right now, therefore special category at the bottom.
The number at the wiki page don't really add up though, since it says that there are 15 in the US, but only 10 are listed. I'd guess some are really restricted. The UK has 7, afterwards it goes 4, 3, 2 and 1 per country.

So... when the amount of serial killers or cryptozoonotic creatures came up, I found that somehow funny , since BSL 4 means normally very deadly, and some of these bugs might also still be hidden, but who knows...

I'm pretty sure there's some history of bioweapon research, and now for bioterror defense. In addition to the actual health research for animals and humans, obviously.

In theory I have another map, but I'll be on a short holiday from tomorrow until including Sunday, so I probably shouldn't post it (yet).


EDIT: I just see that I have counted the sites with BSL4 labs, not the actual BSL4 labs. So the number of 15 is correct, since some have more than 1. And the UK should be 6 only. My bad, next time gonna check better.

The UK is at five or six. Mill Hill was replaced by the Francis Crick which, if the wiki is up to date, hasn't actually handled any level 4 human stuff yet. If you're building a containment bunker under the middle of central London it's way easier to overbuild than retrofit. Better still keep the really nasty stuff out in the country unless you really really have to.

(there are differences, but will not be considerable for the guessing here).
