Guess the Map IV: A Thousand Cries for "Hint Please!"

... but not spirit consumption or production because Ireland is way down the list ...

Alcohol related deaths per capita? (See, we can handle our drink):smug:

That's not really the point of the thread too, it's about guessing intelligently, and learning something in the process, not just being able to look it up...

Beer? It's not a per capita measuring apparently, so that'd explain the light side of Ireland and Czechia, though not Poland.

Generally speaking, Turkey seems to be the odd one out, from a culture-point-of-view.

well yeah, that was true. That got me thinking, what is the best way of giving hints and what is the preferred difficulty level? How long should one wait and how specific should the hints be? F.e. I didn't have the impression that we need another hint now as the guesses seemed to come in quite regularly, but maybe this speed is wanted?

I'd say hints need to be generic and only define the broader area, I found the animal hint quite clever in that way as it wasn't related to biology ;-) On the other hand there's no sense in giving hint after hint, if you had to give 5 hints, you should just reveal the whole map. Also, answers should be accepted in a general way, no need to define it in every last detail.

Nifty!

Okay, I have no idea if this is going to be hard or easy. I guess we'll find out:

Sorry that it's North America only; I tried to find a world map equivalent, but couldn't.

A couple of mountain ranges stand out as noticably different from the surrounding area. I'd guess it's something to do with geography, or some kind of animal.

Anything to do with precipitation?

Something to do with elevation?

No and not really, respectively.

Anything to do with precipitation?

Something to do with elevation?

Related distantly, but not really.

Steepness of terrain?

volcanic activity

No and no.
